Title: Bitcoin core installation problem.
Post by: moh85 on January 20, 2018, 06:35:31 PM
Hi,

I have a problem installing bitcoin core to my laptop. I did have a bc before but did deleted it a while ago. Now I want/need it back.

I did download bitcoin core 15.1.0. (newest version) and when I do installation process laptop will put it to my c:/programfiles/... driver. BUT. All other stuff goes to driver D: (its recovery driver). I think it should go to C:/...appdata/roaming/bitcoin.. When I am do a clean installation I think core should ask (first time) where I want to buil database. But it wont do that. Also if I move those files from D: to C:/...appdata/roaming/bitcoin folder core will do new files to D:

I hope someone understood what my problem is. Everytime, when I am installing core again, I am removing all files from my laptop so there should no be any old files ets.

Also, I have wallet.dat so I need Bitcoin core..

Your computer has had Bitcoin Core installed on it before. There are settings and data which are not removed when you uninstall Bitcoin Core. That is what is causing your problem.

You can change the datadir by starting Bitcoin Core with the -choosedatadir option.

Hi,

Thank you for your reply.. I did have core before but it was not in driver D: so I have no idea why it puts it there now. Also I did remove all files. From every folder and so on. By hand and by uninstalling it..

Can you help me by step-by-step. I mean How I can start bitcoin core with choosedatadir and what I should do eith this? Thanks again..

EDIT: Thank you so much about this tip. I got it work and now data directory is as I wanted it to be c:/user/...appdata/roaming/bitcoin etc.

Cool!

Try to open regedit and delete all section where you seen word bitcoin.
Then install again
