That was messed up. I don't know if I will be buying IOTA soon. Maybe later on once things calms down as I hear some good things about it but planning to do a good research on coins I purchase.

Guys I would get into IoT Chain (ITC). They cover security of IoT and have a waaaaaay lower supply than IOTA. Great tech and huge backing. https://iotchain.io/

Even saw an article from Huffpost talking about the differences: https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/a-beginners-guide-to-iot-chain-the-iota-of-china_us_5a4a4edee4b06cd2bd03e183

Interesting article. I was not aware of the attack but it seems that the users were tricked into revealing their seeds instead of the IOTA technology being compromised. If someone can argue otherwise, then please go ahead.

I read that they hire someone from a Volkswagen company. This should be a start to the price increase. However, news of this kind about stolen passwords and stolen money will give a big drawdown in the course. But I think developers will find a way to regain trust.

It is not IOTA team fault that these funds were stolen. It is because people who used that website were either irresponsible or not educated enough. It is very important to be careful when generating a wallet. That's why it is wise to buy a hardware wallet but as far as I know, IOTA isn't supported by any manufacturer. Some seed generators are open-source generators which you could use on an offline, air-gapped computer.

I've taken the main points from that article.

first
Quote
On January 19th, 2018, some IOTA users lost their funds to an unknown attacker. The good news: The IOTA technology is secure. The attacker did not leverage any vulnerability.

And second

Quote
From what I’ve heard, many users who lost their funds created their seeds at iotaseed.io (not linked here for obvious reasons).

It looks a lot of people are still using scam seed generators. This just another kind of what already did by scammer through spreading the fake link of mew site.

this looks very similar in my opinion.

But it looks these scammers have an access to the seed that has been generated by shady site generator.

People definitely need to be careful of phishing attacks like these.  Hard to blame the dev and coin on a breach like this.  Users need to make sure they do not share their private credentials with anyone for any reason.
