For example, I've already set up a Smartcash masternode, and I got to know about it from some Steemit article, not from Maternodes.online.

You have to DYR, as always, but I get the sense that there is little to no due diligence from Masternodes.online on listing new coins there.

All things you need here. After launching for a while, those new coins will submit to be listed on several masternode statistics websites, like:
