Come on, this is getting ridiculous.

You're taking in $10k in a week and 70% of the money is doing nothing. It's not being used for new software or "other useful purposes" at all. And you're still allowing BFL to bid while smaller businesses get pushed out:

theymos, at least put a cap on the amount of slots someone can have in a month or similar.

The forum has loads of cash they should be supporting the crypto community  even if they gave away 1 slot a week to a small crypto business it would make people feel that they are doing at least something for the community

It's things like this which lead to things like this (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=280190). People are already fed up, and nothing happens when people call for change. :-\

1 or 2 of the slots, probably just 1, are given for free for VIP's and Staff to insert an ad. Said slot is divided by all ads from VIP's and Staff.
I might be mistaken, but the above is what I seem to recall. I'm sure a better informed someone will drop by and confirm, deny, or correct what I said.

I have no problem with the forum and let's be honest: if you could make 10k with a forum per week, you would take it too.

Though I would donate some or give smaller projects a chance

Factoids. https://bitcointalk.org/adrotate.php?adinfo

1 in 570 chance of a Factoid showing. You get 1 Factoid for free if you're a Donator/VIP. Still pretty terrible, the odds are tiny.

You think there isn't competition for these ads already?

regardless of what I think - no sane man would put a cap on their income & earnings due making to much money!

It's not just this.

Theymos SAID IN THE VERY DONATOR THREAD that he planned to get the forum software done almost a year ago.
Where are we now..?

theymos isn't supposed to be using the funds for his own purposes (i.e the 70% that isn't for the mod team).

More money is never bad. It may be useful someday. Having it sit around is good for the Bitcoin economy, actually: it represents the fact that the forum has provided a service but hasn't yet demanded much from the economy in return.

You can verify that the money is in fact sitting around and not being used arbitrarily. The cold storage addresses are public. A lot of the money isn't even held by me.

1 in 570 chance of a particular factoid showing. Some factoid is shown with a 1 in 10 chance.

But some people bought ads with the understanding that their money would be put towards developing new forum software. There is more than enough money to have new forum software made now, but nothing is happening with it. That's the primary concern with the ad money.

When you put those numbers side by side with the forum pageviews the odds suddenly don't look as tiny as you want us to believe...
Let's get those numbers down.
429669026 pageviews since November 2011, so, 22 months give or take...
429669026÷22= 20460429 pageviews per month.
19530410÷30 = 682014 pageviews per day
651013÷24 = 28417 pageviews per hour
27125÷60 = 452 pageviews per minute

And please note that those are average numbers, and the current stats put those averages to shame if you bother to do the math.

Isn't this thread about advertisements? Why are you talking about the donations money now? When your initial argument doesn't cut it you just switch to a new one, is that it?

ohfail, ad money, I meant. (Because 70% of the ad money is kept in storage)

And psy, this part of the argument has still been skipped:

And you're still allowing BFL to bid while smaller businesses get pushed out

The excuse of more money doesn't really cut it, you know the score with how the community hates BFL advertising.

Well, the community is now demanding new software... So why not use this money?

Some of them are even just 1 word. Looks like someone trying to farm posts.

OT: There's no such thing as too much money :-)
