Title: Weiss Ratings starts grading cryptocurrencies - What can we expect?
Post by: Febo on January 23, 2018, 05:40:20 PM
https://www.cnbc.com/video/2018/01/19/weiss-ratings-starts-grading-cryptocurrencies.html

As you see here tomorrow n 24th January is announced this ratting from https://www.weissratings.com/  that is highly reputable company that rates investments, stocks and companies.

What can we expect? Something like https://www.coingecko.com/en  ? Coingecko was my Nr1 crypto rating index so far.  Or we will get something totally new?   Who will get rate A beside Bitcoin? Who will get rate B?

What if it's just paid to rate Bitcoin and other crypto very bad? Maybe Ripple or Bitconnect will get AA rate. :) That would be interesting.

P.S. I love Coingecko too, crypto is not all about the price.

8 hours to go.  No one else have any predictions?  Not even for your favorite coin. I wonder if they will make long list of coins or just some top coins.   If they will make at least a decent list I will be positively surprised.

This could be interesting to see what Wall Street types think of the various cryptos ... but more importantly, it's another sign of cryptos getting accepted into the investment world's mainstream.

The ratings agencies tend to produce reports (which include more than the ratings) for customers. That's the only reason they do ratings at all - they are selling information to institutional customers.

It's interesting that they have decided to do this for cryptocurrency - it means that they think hedge funds and other financial institutions are willing to pay money to buy their ratings reports...

It'll be very interesting to see if these ratings affect the coins at all or will it be largely unimportant.

Ha ha.  When timer ended, site went off.   Seems to many people wants to see this ratings or someone DDOSed them when found their favorite coin had not got grade A. :P

I think this is good news. You need to follow the predictions of Weiss Ratings because coins that they will appreciate greatly rise in price.

Bitcoin C+ (meaning “fair”), Ethereum B (“good”), Novacoin (D), SaluS (D) and Steem (B-). None of the cryptocurrencies covered currently get a grade of A (“excellent”). Regarding Bitcoin, it is a fair assessment during these times. Lightning and Segwit are indeed showing some initial success but are not fully there yet.

As far as I see the impact their rating gave the market, they only make really small influence. McAfee does 100 times bigger impact.

Pretty shit, if I have to say
Though people are still gonna FOMO buy the one with the good grade, probably
ETH was pumped the moment it was released

Come on. Bitcoin is Light years ahead of any other crypto. Light years. From how many people develops it and support. Then is ETH and then all the rest.   They gave B to EOS that dont exist yet. Is still an Etherum token, since real EOS is still planed. You can see there is total bullshit.

They also gave Neo a B - and I'm absolutely amazed by that. It's a Chinese ICO, and China has banned ICOs, exchanges and cryptocurrencies. So where do they think the value comes from?

i read about this elsewhere on bitcointalk and i have to say, they seem to be trying to manipulate the market in their own way. specially with all the noise they are making for their useless and baseless rating of cryptocurrencies!

by the way someone found something very interesting about their history of manipulating the market for which they were prosecuted:

You may also want to consider the fact that Weiss has already been prosecuted for "production and and distribution of materially false and misleading marketing materials" (false ratings for pump and dump basically lol) before:

https://www.sec.gov/litigation/admin/2009/34-60125.pdf

Don't give them the power to influence prices. Ignoring their ratings would be best lol.
