cryptothrift - BitCoin and LiteCoin Auction Site

Hello fellow crypto enthusiasts,

We are glad to be announcing the public release of our brand new website cryptothrift.com (http://cryptothrift.com). cryptothrift is a BitCoin BTC and LiteCoin  LTC auction website where users can buy, sell and auction items, goods and services for BitCoin and LiteCoin (more currencies to come).  It supports a built in Escrow service with a fee lower than any other Escrow service available on the market. It also provides a platform for other crypto project developers to hold fundraising and charity auctions to fund their crypto projects; those auctions will be listed and sold free of charge and will be accompanied with a blog page explaining the project and how others can donate and contribute to them. More about the project can be found here (http://cryptothrift.com/about/)

Features:

    •   BitCoin and LiteCoin Support (more to come)
    •   Free listing
    •   Percentage base fee
    •   Split payments
    •   Built in Escrow
    •   Automatic payment processing
    •   Advanced feedback system
    •   Fully integrated social networking
    •   Charity and Community support and fundraiser auctions
    •   Retina/Super HD display support
    •   A lot more features coming in the next update, stay tuned!

The website has been built with user friendliness in mind, we know most crypto users are already tech savvy, but we’re hoping our project alongside other crypto projects will help contribute towards pulling more users and a variety of people into using cryptocurrency in day to day online shopping. That’s why we’re offering item listings in Fiat (USD only for now) rather than crypto as we believe it’s still slightly easier for online shoppers to calculate figures in Fiat rather than crypto. In saying so, listing in cryptocurrencies will be added soon to accommodate every taste as well as other major fiat currencies.

So how it works? And if the listing is in Fiat, what are BitCoin and LiteCoin have to do with it?

Users will post items for sale in Fiat; the equivalent value of accepted crypto will be shown alongside the Fiat value calculated from the average value pulled through an API from major exchanges like mtGox and BTC-e. When the item is sold, the final value in crypto will be used to for payment. Yes, payments can be made in cryptocurrency and cryptocurrency only. The Fiat figures are there for reference only. Check our FAQ (http://cryptothrift.com/faq/) page for more info

Fees, charges and payments:

Listing on cryptothrift is completely free, you post your item and pay nothing until it’s sold, no sale no fee. When the item is sold, a percentage fee will be deducted from the final value of the auction upon closure. We’re using percentage fees as it’s fairer for sellers. Escrow fees will be added to the final value of the sale and will be paid by the buyer should they select the escrow option (if that the seller is offering Escrow). All payments whether with or without Escrow will be made to crptothrift’s wallets, fees will be deducted automatically and the final amount will be sent to the seller. Automatic payments have been put in place to eliminate human errors and speed up transactions. In case of an Escrow, the funds will be held in cryptothrift’s offline wallets until the buyer confirms the reception of the goods and the satisfaction of the sale, where funds will be released to the seller. You can find more information about fees, charges and other auction details here (http://cryptothrift.com/please-read/)

Auction Duration and Details:

Auctions can be submitted as a normal auction and/or as “Buy Now” listing. Sellers select which country they are selling from and whether they provide international shipping (if applicable). They also need to select what condition the item they are selling is in (brand new, used, defected, etc..). Sellers select the category and price of the item as well as the format of the sale (auction or buy now) alongside the shipping, escrow, item description and other details. Sellers select the duration of the listing (10 days by default) and upload photos (3 photos free of charge) as well as any files in the case of downloadable goods. Items get posted

Buyers bid on the items until the auction duration ends, the highest bidder at the closure of the auction is the winner and is expected to pay for the item in full within 48 hours in the nominated cryptocurrency they choose provided that the seller accepts that currency. Sellers ship the items (registered post preferred) and mark them as shipped, buyers receive the items and mark them as received, funds get released to the seller in the case of Escrow and both buyers and seller can then choose to exchange feedback. The feedback system has been put in place to increase trust between parties and to save you money as well as a high rated seller might offer escrow, but the buyer can decide not to select it as their feedback and reputation is high enough to be trusted, thus saving themselves money. Please check our Terms and Conditions (http://cryptothrift.com/terms-conditions/) page before buying or selling on cryptothrift

Safety and Privacy:

To makes sure your funds are secure, all funds are transferred immediately out of our wallets to the seller. When an Escrow is selected; funds will be stored in a cold wallet awaiting manual release. This step has to be done manually to increase security. Also, all BitCoin and LiteCoin addresses are a one off address, once the full payment is received, those addresses are no longer in use, and each item will have its own generated addresses.
Your privacy is as important to us as it is to you. We will not store any personal information on our website apart from those you decide to share or those which are essential for you to communicate with others like your username and location (if provided). Our multi verification system is being developed as we’re typing this message. To increase security and trust between users, we will offer a 2 step verification, a silver one which uses your online profiles and reputation to prove who you are and give you a score badge out of a 1,000, and a second gold verification which is done manually by you submitting your proof of ID and address. Both verifications will NOT give away any of your personal information, they are purely used to give you a badge and a score. Once your identity is confirmed, documents will be destroyed and no further details will be held in our hands. Our complete privacy policy details can be found on our Privacy Policy (http://cryptothrift.com/privacy-policy) page.

cyptothrift is still in beta release, we might have missed/messed some tiny details, but we’ll be looking forward to your feedback, suggestions and complains, whatever you want to call them. This is a cool site, and one that the crypto community needs.  It's going to take some time to get a good user base for auctions, but people can use this straight away just as an escrow service for buy it now items, if they already have a buyer lined up.

Love it!

The interface and design of the website look much better than BitMit with the addition of accepting LTC.

Is there any location checking based upon IP or is that handled only when you are logged in? I get told I can't bid even when I am in the correct country.

Sorry, you can not buy or bid on this item. Shipping for this item is not available to your country, shipping is available to USA only.

That is an awesome QR Code...

Thanks for the nice feedback :-)
The country/location popup is a small bug that was noted yesterday and is already in the work. Although we are working on extra Fiat currencies to be chosen via your IP and then display only items that will ship to your location, but this is gonna be in the next big update.

Minor bugs will be fixed as we find them, we are a team of few, so you guys are a great help in the beta stage. Check our  LTC giveaway  (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=281917.0;topicseen) if you want to post something :-)

The "Pay This" button under outstanding payments is bringing me to a blank page every time I click it even though I won an auction.  I tested the button in both Chrome and Firefox, but it didn't make a difference.  How should I proceed?

Hi,

Can you send me your auction ID please so I can forward you the link. It seems like the "pay" button on the "outstanding payment" page has some java errors, will sort this out immediately.

Thanks for letting us know

Edit:
I've tried so hard to replicate your issue with no success.. All items I've posted and bought allowed me to pay just fine, I've tried the below:

- Buy Now auction with Escrow
- Buy Now auction without Escrow
- Bid on item and win with Escrow
- Bid on item and win without Escrow

All were successful... Would you be able to tell me exact details as to what you've done so I can try and replicate?

Thanks a lot :-)

Auction ID #771

I go from:   my account (top right corner of the screen) > buyer menu > outstanding payments > pay this > completely blank page

I have tested in both chrome and firefox (with adblock on and off) with the same result.  I have also tested in Internet Explorer, but my version was so outdated that the entire site didn't display correctly.  I also verified my java installation and confirmed that everything was running as it should.

Sorry, I wish I knew how to help you more.  Is there anything in particular you want to know?

Edit:  I also tried in incognito code, but got the same result.

Edit 2:  Found another problem.  Every message I get or send has two copies.  Each box is one message.

This seems to be turning into a problem where people are selling illegitimate gift cards.  It's tricky too because there are people selling legitimately attained gift cards such as those attained through special offers.

How does Ebay protect against this?  What is being done by the Cryptothrift website to combat fraudulent sales?

My personal experience is that I've bought some starbucks gift cards and they worked really well until recently I was down to about $20 on a $100 card and it then showed up as $0 balance.

Also, I know some will cry out, "well if it sounds too good to be true..."  But again this is tricky since there are vendors selling legitimately attained cards and they are being undercut by criminals.  I tend to pay a few extra $$ when I see a long record of positive feedback because I expect it to be a reputable transaction.

When you make the next update you should have it where adult stuff isn't shown on the front page. Maybe have another part of the site where those things can be shown after you consent to being of age.  Lots of weird stuff on the front page today lol.

We have found a fix/solution for this which we should be implementing very soon. eBay doesn't allow the sales of any digitally delivered gift cards, OEM or licenses. As legit as this sounds, it's not an option for us, a digital business working with digtal money for users who spend most of their time and money in the digital world.

We will be introducing a new verification system with a new Bitcoin business startup (name will be mentioned upon release), it will be optional for users to get verified and there will be different verification levels. ONLY verified users or users with certain number of positive feedbacks will be allowed to list digital gift cards. and ONLY verified users will be able to sell PayPal. Unverified users can list anything else just fine.

When you make the next update you should have it where adult stuff isn't shown on the front page. Maybe have another part of the site where those things can be shown after you consent to being of age.  Lots of weird stuff on the front page today lol.

Yes, you're correct. I woke up this morning and had to refresh the page twice to make sure it's my site I was looking at :)

The listings were suspended... Not because it's illegal to sell them or because they don't give a good impression about the site. They were suspended purely because they were digital downloads from torrents which violates our T&C.
Will be checking what's the best approach to this. Might create a category for the adult industry and hide the listings from the front pages. This way only users looking for those items can find them.

Somethings weird about those starbucks gift cards. There is no way those sellers can sell legit gift cards for pennies on the dollar. $100 for $15 yea right.

Not so fast on getting replies anymore. They recently made it where you can only list items for 10 days and then you have to manually relist each one if you want which takes hours. I don't mind listing something in the begining but I don't want to spend hours relisting every 10 days for stuff that doesn't really sell.

I emailed asking about a bulk relisting option or something and have not gotten an answer.

More recently I bid on a rental and the person renting it already had one bad feedback so I messaged the seller beforehand asking if it was a legit listing. They replied yes it was so I bid and paid and put the money in escrow.

I message the seller with all my pool info and then I receive a message back saying I needed to pay for the listing. I messaged them back letting them know I did pay and the funds were safely in escrow. They then messaged me back to release the funds and I am unsure if they did not know what escrow was or they were trying to rip me off so I contacted cryptothrift to ask them to contact the seller to to let them know the funds were safe.

After about a day there was no response from cryptothrift and they never bothered to contact the seller to explain how things work so I just went ahead and requested a refund.

Now though after another day there is no contact and no refund from escrow.

I know I have read things in the past here were the owners said they are family men and are good guyss but don't have a lot of time but some things need to get handled more qquickly it seems. Not sure if they need to hire someone or what but as it is now I just want my BTC returned in a timely manner and I think the seller should be warned or banned from the site.

Didn't want to really post here and make it public but felt I didn't have any other choice since message have been going unanswered.

Listed below is the listing I won.

Cryptothrift came through and issued a refund for the auction and I guess placed the sellers account under review.

They also said they may be working on a bulk relist feature in the future.

I really like the idea of a bitcoin auction site and I hope cryptothrift will be around for quite some time.

We had requested account termination from Cryptothrift on 24.11.2014 due to their moderators' (cryptodude) hostile attitude and false accusations towards us. They haven't terminated our account yet. We are eagerly waiting for them to take proper action.
You can find details of this debate in our thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=420070.msg9641768#msg9641768
We believe that Cryptothrift should not be operated in cryptocoin industry or should hire more professional personnel to deal with their sellers.

I havent been on the forum in a while and Im glad I stopped by. Otherwise I wouldnt have found this thread and the site. I agree with others that the community desperately needs a strong, well built, user-friendly auction and selling platform.

When I get some more time I am going to browse through and see if I can purchase something. I did notice a few of the prices were really good. For example, a Wolfenstein: The New Order download key for PS3 for $16! Unfortunately Im looking for it on PC but thats still an awesome price. Will post additional thoughts here after I fully use the site.
