Title: Is it safe to leave Altcoin in Exchange
Post by: tigerk6 on January 24, 2018, 05:21:47 AM
Hi,

I want to earn interest on my coins (BTC,ETH,LTC) therefore I prefer to leave these in Exchange for funding purpose, however I have No plan to sell or exchange with other coin in near future.

I always keep my withdrawal blocked by changing password every 5th day.

Is it 100% safe to keep crypto's in exchange like Bitfinex or others with withdrawal locked ?

If you are constantly engaged in trading within a day, then there is no choice. It is necessary to store altcoins on the exchange. But if you keep coins for a long time, then this is completely insecure! Example-exchange btc-e. It is better to store coins on a hardware wallet.

Don't put your all funds in exchange, because you don't know what happened to your fund if exchanger have some problems. I was get goxxed by Mt.Gox back in 2014 when I trust this exchange so much and enjoy doing trade there. I put all bitcoin fund there and nothing come back until now.

This is one of the most ridiculous decision you want to make because no matter the reputation of the exchange site you are leaving the coins, they are still susceptible to attacks which is something you should prepare yourself for. I am not sure the exchange site that add interest on your balances but if you want to keep long term as you have said, its best you just use a desktop wallet or offline wallet and save yourself the stress of having to change password every five days which does not matter if your the exchange becomes vulnerable.

It is not safe. What if the exchange is hacked? Your fund will surely be stolen. There were many cases where popular crypto exchanges were hacked or a crime was commited by inside job in the past. I'm sure the interest are too small compared to your fund so think carefully.

I do not think that this is a good idea, because at any time this exchange can close or do something like Bittrex, do something to withdraw funds, so I would not do so and if there is an opportunity to better just take my money and leave it on a few years

If you are planning to keep your assets  for long time then exchanges are not an option for people like you but if you are a day-trader then probably the  security steps you are doing would be helpful for security of your coins. For long term holding, it is better to choose a safe wallet like binance or just buy a hardware wallet and move your coins to one of these safest places

Well, i think its safe to store all of your coin in exchange but in the top exchanger not in unreputable exchanger.
But if you want to store without trading i think better you store it in hard wallet because its more safe.

But Exchange like Bitfinex they pay about 1.5% a month on your coin, I have earned BTC, LTC, ETH by funding on exchange.

Keeping on offline won't increase my coin ...

If you not  a daily trader, the best way to keep your altcoins on your own private wallet. Any exchange might disappeared in one moment with all your funds.

Crypto 101 - NEVER leave your crypto in exchanges, because if you do not control the private keys of your wallet, you don't have access to your funds. They are not yours (ownership = private keys), they are owned by the exchange (under your name, but only they have access to them). If the exchange gets hacked, or shuts down by themselves or even by the government, you may lose access to your funds. You should control them.

Sometimes not because wallet account on Cryptocurrency exchanges are just temporary but still could hold your coins while they are up and stable but if you have Bitcoin and other huge amount of coins that has huge value then it's better to withdraw them into your safe wallet to Avoid trouble in the future.

For long-term holding never store coins in exchanges they are not safe, for daily trading you have to store coins in exchanges.

It would have to depend on the amount of coins that is going to be just sitting on an exchange. Is there money that is cashed somewhere just in case things don't go the way you want? If you have enough money to put money on an exchange then that should be all that you need. Worrying will not help.

If we all want to safely store Altcoin then the official Altcoin wallet is a top choice. But for a trader it can not be avoided, a trader must be able to make decisions appropriately and quickly so that the funds in the exchange is a necessity. So the most important point is that we are trading on a reliable exchange, one of the exchangers that has a good level of security and trust is Bittrex. I've done a lot of deals there and I feel comfort is the point that I feel most.

I also often leave alt in exchange, but only temporarily and for a few days. For a long time, then it is too risky if we leave it there, because we do not know what will happen in the future.

In general, you don't need to change the password frequently, so long as you set Google secondary authentication and a more complex password, don't use a public VPN, there will be no big problems.
Unless there is a massive theft on the exchange.

Since you're planning it for long-term investment, I would not recommended it. It's better you saving it on coinomi wallet mobile or using ledger.
Exchanges are usually using for doing trading, means you need to be active checking your account often. For notes, there are many bad experiences in past when exchanges got being hacked or compromised, so you can't access your account on it.

Title: Re: Is it safe to leave Altcoin in Exchange

It's not 100% safe as there are always risk of your account get blocked by the exchange. There's case where exchange got hacked in the past and people lost money. The longest I've ever left my coin on the exchange is about 1 week. It's not recommended to leave your money at exchange especially if the amount is big because it's not that safe.

You have no plans to sell your altcoins. It's best if you just put it in the hardware wallet. Because it is safer and you are sure it will be preserved by any person. Just keep in touch with your private key. Because the private key is the only way to open your wallet.

I think leaving assets in the stock is a high risk, because every second is always moving.
If for me better keep the assets into hardware to be more secure, because we will use it in the long run

It is not safe to keep bitcoin or any altcoin on exchange because you're not the genuine owner of the coins since you're not the private keys holder. However, if the exchange got hacked you loose your coin and I will advice you to get a wallet that support varieties of altcoin.

Save altcoin in exchange is not recommended, except kucoin exchanges. That exchanges share dividend for their coin holder. Save coin in ofline wallet is better than save it in online wallet because hackers can hack through internet connection.

If you're holding huge amount of coin value on Cryptocurrency exchanges then it's better to pull them out into your secure wallet because if the exchange was hacked or attacked then you will possibly lost your coins. Bittrex.com was recently hacked and huge amount of Bitcoins are lost.
You'll better put your coins save than sorry.

it would not be safe to keep a coin on the exchange, because the risk is very high and vulnerable to fraud. coins will be safe if it remains our own that holds the coins and keeps in our trust wallet.

Cryptocurrency exchanges cannot be fully trusted, you can transfer your coins into exchange but don't let it stay there for a long time because the main purpose if Cryptocurrency exchange is for trading or exchanging coins into another coins.
Don't let hackers and attackers take your valuable coins.

Defenitely it is not safe bro.
If you don't have plan of selling or trading them in near future then it is better to move an wallet with private key access then your coins will be safe forever until you want to access.
If you store in exchange's wallet there are many chances for shut down of your exchange at any time then you can't access your coins because yiu are not controlling the private keys.

If you are thinking of HODLing your coins, keep it on a cold storage it's the most safe way to do it rather than putting your alts in an exchange.

Don’t even think that exchanges has the capability to hold your coins securely like wallets does because some of them don’t required much higher security for your accounts.. Private keys or hardware wallet are the true storage wallet for any crypto coin.. Don’t take the risk and transfer only what you want to trade or idle only for a day or two and not more than that..

If you trade every day, then there is no choice( you have to keep coins on the exchange. But if you plan to keep some coins as a long-term investment, of course it would be better to use a wallet with a private key access. Because if something happens with an exchange you will loose all your money. If you plan to use a wallet, be careful and don`t loose your private key because it will be impossible to restore it  ;)

If you are going to use them (i.e. trade), then leave in Exchange. But if you just wanna hodl - you'd better withdraw it to the cold wallet. The reason is pretty simple - exchange may shut down or be hacked

If you want your altcoin to be safe I think you need to save  your coin in hard wallet or a wallet that needs a private key then just go to the exchange if you want to trade. Be careful to your coin you need to keep it safe if you don't want to lose it.

No,exchanges isnt a wallet, you need to trade when you put your coins in any exchanges, and according to most of the exchanges you need to make trades or they will terminate you account. If you dont have plans to trade your coins it is better to get a hardwallet im using ledger nano s,cheapest but secured hardwallet today.

Leaving your altcoins in your account in exchanges is not safe. It is better if you'll get a hardwallet where you can store or hold your tokens in. It is 100% safe in wallets rather than keeping it in your exchanges account. Also, some exhanges terminate accounts that are inactive. If you want to keep your coins for a long time, then get a wallet for exchanges can be hack.

I think it is safe to store your coins on exchanges like Bitfinex, Bittrex and Binance, but it is not safe on all exchanges so you should store your coins on a local wallet to make sure that they cant get hacked. I always store my coins on a wallet like trezor or ledger nano ;)

Yes putting our coins in exchange site is not advisable, only if you do a day trading, then it is ok, but you don't have any plans to sell your coins so better withdraw your coins and keep it in your desktop wallet. I always prefer desktop wallets don't go for online wallets also. In some cases, if we don't have desktop wallets then you can put your coins in an online wallet. But never keep your coins in exchange sites.

Hi,
Is it 100% safe to keep crypto's in exchange like Bitfinex or others with withdrawal locked ?

No,because you are not controlling the private keys of exchange wallet so they can access your wallets at any time.So do it your own risk!

But you can give the little more protection therough 2FA authentication and other security measure also available like IP authorization. But still it is not 100% safe to leave the crypto currency on exchange wallets.

I hope OP will lock this thread soon to avoid spamming of this thread.

If you want to get interest on holding the coins you have mentioned above you will need to maximize the market potential, try to trade these coins with  the other alts so you can make a lot of profits/interest from time to time but if you dont have intentions to trade these it is better to store these with a hardwallet,i suggest a hardwallet like ledger nano s ive been using that for about a year with no hassle.

Staying your coins in the Cryptocurrency exchange is risky because there are so many attacks on every exchange website today and while you make some trading and exchange some hackers are trying to penetrate the everything possible holes so that they could get or steal free money from the users.
Stay your coins if you're doing trading otherwise it's not a safe wallet like you're using in personal.

You have to understand that if there is a security leak on the website where you store your coins, anybody can steal those ones.
Because an exchange is a website with servers where are stored your private informations about your coins.

On the contrary, when you uses wallets like myetherwallet, you don't store your coin on a server, this is just an interface that make the communication between the blockchain and your computer.
So as soon as your coins are in the blockchain, they are safe. Except if you loose or give your password to somebody of course.

You are right, there's no more secure wallet than your own wallet because it's painful that you lost your coins not on your watch. Hitbc, Bitfinex and Bittrex are some of the exchange sites that has been hacked and their clients lose their coins especially Bitcoins and Ethereum.
It's better safe than sorry. Only transfer your coins if you do trading otherwise pull them out as soon as possible.

It's better to store your coins on a hard wallet like trezor or paper wallet. All coins have their own wallet just check their site.

It is not 100% safe or secure to leave your altcoin in any exchange site because most exchange site like bitfinex or others have their own issues if the trade site closed your altcoin will be loose try to practice to in & out your altcoin this is not a right place to store your altcoin try to use ledger nano.

Exchange sites is not a wallet for you to stored/stocked your coins for a long run. i suggest you to transfer it onto their designated wallet so they cant lost any moment. because if the site you stored coins got problem in the future, im sure you will cry hard if this happened and you wont like to happen this to you. even the exchange site is legit one, you cant assure that your coins is at a very safest place.

If your often trading than you don't have much choice. If if you plan on holding better move it to a secure offline wallet such as Trezor or Nano Ledger S.

It’s is always risky to keep alt coins in exchanges we never know when this exchanges will be compromised .Like recently etherdelta compromised so take the profit out of exchanges as soon as possible.

Basically, exchange is not really meant to be a storage of coin. Its actually made to literally to exchange, it would be risky to hold coin in an exchange. To be sure and secure, better to have it on your personal wallet then just have a certain amount every time you want to do exchange. An exchange has the possibility to fail on its system, its not design to really hold coin in a long period of time.

Butj there were exchanges that may allow you to really put your fund, juat be sure that you are in a kegit exchange that has credibility to the large number of investors and holder.

If you have 2FA enabled, and are changing your password every 5 days, I would say it is safe.

Remember, your coins are never stored in a wallet or exchange per say, they are always on the blockchain.
Your addresses are just access points to move things around and your seed allows you to use that access point.
So when your coins are on an exchange, it is just a wallet/address that is actually on the blockchain, and the interface to use that wallet/address is displayed on the exchanges website.

The reason why people say that it is not safe to leave coins on an exchange, is that the website itself could get hacked and hackers can access addresses and seeds and accounts, which would allow them to withdraw your funds.
But if you have 2FA enabled, it basically becomes near impossible to steal your funds as withdrawals have to be confirmed by your phone, or email, or whatever you set up.

With that being said, I see no benefit in keeping coins on an exchange if you don't plan to trade.
You mentioned interest, but I don't know of any exchange that gives you interest for the coins you mentioned.
There are some that give you "interest" but those are specifically for the exchanges coins, like kucoin shares.

It is not 100% safe, there have been many exchanges that have lost funds and have had to shutdown and not all the users got ther money back, if you trade often then you need to keep your coins in the exchange in order to trade, as you have said you are not looking to trade so the best thing you can do for these 3 coins especially you will be able to find a secure local wallet and then keep your coins in your wallet until the time comes that you want to sell and need to send to an exchange.

The coins you keep on an exchange should be protected by switching on 2FA to give the extra layer to possible hacks.

This things been asked for how many times and people do always say or do remind that its never wise to leave out our coins on idle on exchanges because risk of losing it would really be there and since you do mention that you are not making any tradings and tend to hold i up for long term since you dont have plans to sell it then its more wise on storing it on wallets which do support it and you do have the keys of such wallets. Its much more safer on this side than on storing them on places where you dont have the possesion of your keys on such wallets.

my experience is still safe. but take a look at his exchanger. whether they have a good or bad reputation.

for example etherdelta is just a fool who holds a coin there.

my advice, if you just want to hold  it anyway better use a personal wallet

Major cryptocurrency exchanges are relatively secure ways to store your bitcoin  and altcoins but it’s typically not advised for larger amounts. The major exchanges are essentially big money targets for hackers who are constantly developing new ways to steal bitcoin from people. It is better to store coins on a hardware wallet.

If you are in a day trading mate, its actually there in exchanges because you are selling and buying for a short time, but if you are holding it for some years just ho to your main wallet and not on exchanges. Whatever the strong security you have there if the exchanges will disappear immediately? Your coins will also did.

this is too high risk because you are posting a snippet in a wallet that is not using hardware unless you do a daily trading activity this would be safer. because I think the thing you do is very vulnerable to hackers that anytime it will happen. I'm only suggesting to you that it's better to transfer your crypto assets to a wallet of personal hardware or wallet that would be safer. I think it would be safer to keep your crypto assets for a longer period of time.

Bitstamp is compromised. Reddit and similar full of FUD about this exchange. First, it starts with support asking more and more questions. Try to get everything out of that exchange ASAP. I think it is not exchange owners but some fu**cking cheating employees trying to steal from you. One of a name Tomaz if I recall it correctly.

Title: Re: Is it safe to leave Altcoin in Exchange

Any centralized exchange is always risk for storage of the assets. When you are registered at the exchange, on the website always in case of primary registration you are fairly warned that nobody and ever at these exchanges bears responsibility for any losses of your assets of any type. Among a set of risks the most widespread: the hacker attacks for the purpose of hacking of servers of the exchange, fraudulent actions of owners or staff of the exchange, a prohibition of activities of the exchange by the government for one reason or another. My opinion, assets at the exchanges can be held only for trade or for storage in a small size. The size in this case determines everyone for itself what amount of assets the user can lose without extensive damage in case of any force majeur situations. I distribute the same rule to the decentralized exchanges. As I consider that the technology is still underdeveloped and unsafe.

Exchanges are not very safe. You need to store coins on exchanges only if you need for trading purpose. Using wallet which private key control by yourself has much better security than exchanges. But the most security way is hardware wallet.

I will personally never leave my money in an exchange, they are like banks, once you give your coins to them there is no guarantee you are ever going to see your coins again, many things could happen, maybe they get hacked, maybe they exit scam you, maybe their servers are confiscated by a government agency or they may simply decide you violated some of their terms and they keep your money.

I almost agree with you but Binance is always facing "China risk". Chinese government can make any decision and take it into operation immediately, even if it's cease of exchanges, including Binance. Hmm is it 100% safe? No dont think so. You never know what will happen to the exchange. I can shut down or be hacked etc. On the other side if you look at bittrex binnace kucoin i dont think the chance is likely they will get hacked or that they will shut down. In that matter you are never 100% safe. My advice would be dont put all your funds on a exchange and best thing to do is put it on a desktop wallet or a cold wallet. Those are safer then leaving your funds on exchange.

The problem of keeping your tokens in wallet is if there is good increase in prices and you want to sell very fast before it goes back to normal, then it will be too late to shift tokens from wallet to exchange.

But don't put too much there in case of any hack.

I suggest is to make a half of altcoins on exchange and the other half should stored on your  hard wallet to keep secured your all accounts. If you have on the exchange, supposedly to be have a 2FA Security so that you will keep safe your altcoins. And if you want to hold for a long term just make sure to put them on the compatible wallets rather than to sell it

I would like to make divide into three. Some you keep into exchange wallet, some you keep into software or electronic wallet and other you just cash out. Only problem for exchange is that you do not have any control by you. Even, if by any how exchange got hacked then whatever security you have none will help until or unless exchange can keep safe and protection all of their user accounts. However, without keeping exchange it is impossible to do any kind of trade.

No nothing is safe, even online wallets are being hacked these days, there are also a lot of phishing sites for exchanges, one example is poloneix, I have encountered a lot of phishing site with this exchange. You have to be very vigilant and always enable 2FA for added security. still the best way to keep your coins is to store it in hardware wallets.

I do not think that it can be consider as 100% safe, in fact it is depending on the exchange also, as in previous time bitfinex exchange was hacked, so money in exchange cannot be consider as safe, i think we need to very much careful while selecting the exchange, we should select such exchange who have good security system and putting your altcoin there should be consider as more safe and secure.

If you are not engaged in daily trading, it is safer to keep your funds in your own wallet. If your money is stored on the exchange, it means that at the moment you are not their owner in reality. Crypto exchanges are not banks.

I always keep my withdrawal blocked by changing password every 5th day.

Is it 100% safe to keep crypto's in exchange like Bitfinex or others with withdrawal locked ?

Don't put your all funds in exchange, because you don't know what happened to your fund if exchanger have some problems. I was get goxxed by Mt.Gox back in 2014 when I trust this exchange so much and enjoy doing trade there. I put all bitcoin fund there and nothing come back until now.
OMG that's very sad story. im doing the same also since i keep day trading once in a while all my funds was in hitbtc and i just let it there so anytime i need to trade i can immediately use my funds and keeping it in exchange save me for some gas fee in transferring my coin to my wallet to exchange wallet

If you are planing to hold your coins for long term on a exchanger is too risky, the exchanger might close or vanish in the future. And if you are engage in daily trading men you have no choice. If you are planing for longterm keep your coin on the main wallet of your token or a hard wallet. There is some cases that some of exchangers got close because of caughting the owner of money laundering. You should be smart on holding your coins play well and safe.

It depends on the quantity, the altcoin and the exchange, there are exchanges that require the affirmation of their identity and identifications to large amounts of coins, in small amounts it is rare to give a problem, even so i recommend the hardware wallet, use exchange trading only to negotiate.

There is always a risk, but exchanges are fairly safe.

I dont think so. Some exchanges are either hacked or getting down. Recently CE was down, for me it is scary especially when you are storing your coins there. Its best to pit it in your wallet, if ever your coin has wallet. Some wallet even has POS reward like SHND so its win win.

It's not safe at all! Leaving your altcoins in an exchange is really not a wise decision. Especially if you have altcoins worth more than $5k there! Those exchanges are kinda prone to be hacked I think. I know it's a troublesome to withdraw back to your wallet and to exchanges, but It's better rather than losing your hard-earned money. We never know though. Better be safe than sorry.

exchange is for the exchange of coins only so if in my opinion more secure store in the wallet because it is to store our coins, save on exchange a lot of risk eg if the exchange is closed then we can not do much

I wouldn't recommended, not just because of security, the possibility of an exchange getting hacked, but because I've been seeing a lot of exchanges changing their rules to where one must verify their identity, and won't let them move their money out once they do. If you had lots of money in their, then that could be a real issue.

I don't think you should do this. The only point in keeping crypto in exchanges is for trading, so if you don't want to trade or sell your coins, and you just want to hold them, then you are taking a lot of risks. Exchanges can have legal problems, like government bans etc, and can also have tech problems and be targeted for hacking. You could lose your coins, so it's much safer to keep them in a hard wallet. I have a small amount of coins in exchanges because I use them to trade from time to time, but the rest I keep on a wallet.

There's a couple of security measures you can do to increase the safety of leaving your coins there, but if they're not being used for trading i would highly recommend you store it in their respective wallets.

I invested 10 ETH on the stock exchange YoBit. There is 0.1% each day. Income is not very big, but it is better than they would lie dead weight in your wallet. (I do not like to trade)
Yobit? I think you need to be more careful using that exchange site because alot of said negative comment was said lately in the community about the exchange.

As some have noted, keeping in a reputable exchange is okay if you are a short term holder but if you plan to hold long term then an offline wallet is much safer.  Take a look at the big hack that happened yesterday. It’s tough to trust exchanges when they are lacking proper security measures.

I do not think that it will be a good idea to leave your savings on the stock exchange, because the exchange has its own interests too, and as usual, when you transfer your money there and the serious pumping of your money (tokens or coins) begins, they just block wallets of this project, and they themselves trade your money, and they themselves say that they are carried out those works

I really don't recommend any coins or tokens that is or will be going to stay for a long time in Cryptocurrency exchanges sites because it's too risky and there's a big possibility that you'll lose your assets when they're on the other party's watch.
It's better to pull out your coins and tokens once you made trading because there's no safer than your keep them into you personal wallet.

With my experience in this short period have been into cryptocurrency trading, when I buy altcoins I do leave it on exchange where I get it but with the issue of exchange hack I think the most safe place to store your altcoins is hardware wallet. You can get hardware wallets like ledger nano or Trezor.

For me, I think there are no exchanges that are safe. I know that Binance, Cryptopia and Okex are having high security measures, but there are no guarantees that they are totally safe from hackers or intruders who are trying to steal billions of coins there (just like what happened in a Japanese exchange when there are $400+ million coins hacked from them, especially NEM).

My advice to you is that if you want to hold your tokens for so long, I suggest you should transfer it to a safer wallet that supports the cryptocurrency you are holding now. Like Electroneum for example, I just stay put at my ETN dashboard and not transferring them to Cryptopia.

Invest in hardware wallet, ledger nano is cheap and sturdy enougj to hold uour valuable asset.

First you need to check if exchange is approved from community and popularity also.
And then it depends if you are daily active trader then it would be logical and completely safe solution to store them there (on exchange). Because it's their interest that you are constant trading. Only that way it's okay to leave it.

For short term investment it is typically safe as long as its one of the major exchanges. if you want to hold long term though you want to put in a wallet so you can stake the coins (if available for staking)

Never trust to small sized exchanges due this is a serious business and need bigger companies to trust.

This is a bad idea.  If you absolutely must leave on an exchange put the absolute minimum you need on it, check it regularly, enable 2FA on login and withdrawals and change your password frequenly.  Having said that, the only time I lost my coins that were on an exchange was when Cryptsy shut down.  No amount of security can help you if you leave your coins on an exchange and the exchange shuts down and steals your coins.

Is it safe to leave Altcoin on Exchange? I think this is very risky. Mending if you want to keep your coins for the long term I suggest to keep your coins in the wallet, the private key of your own holding so will be very safe. It's his risk if you save in the exchanger it could be any time - the exchange exposed by hackers or others and your coins can be lost all of them.

I think that there is no 100% safe option. The most important thing is not to keep everything in one place and divide it into parts. I have coins in my wallet and on various exchanges where I trade. I think this is a safer way

well the news is against you. a few exchanges have been hacked in the past. or emails and passwords are hacked.

safest thing is to put them offline of course.

i have a lokal incrypted wallet and i feel a bit safer then just let them stand on the exchange but that is if you are a holder of course not a daytrader

if you are holding your coins for only a short while, then it is ok to take up the risk and keep on the exchange first.

If you are a long term investor, you should take a look at installing your own wallets to keep your coins in cold storage.

Since you are not buying and selling with your crypto then it's best to move them in your private wallet. No exchange is safe. You are thinking that you are locking the withdrawal but what will happen if the entire exchange gets hacked. We witnessed these few times. So my advice is move your crypto to your private wallet and then go to sleep :-) Wake up when you need to.  ;D

Hope this helps.

I don't have any first hand experience in bitfinex but most of my friends who uses that never had any problem at all and they also do leave their investments there though I won't say any platform is 100% safe I guess there are always risks but its much safer against other options for the time being.

Not safe of course

Even yesterday the biggest ever hack from exchange happened
https://www.coindesk.com/coincheck-confirms-crypto-hack-loss-larger-than-mt-gox/

You shoud keep some basics rules about managining your BTC & altcoins

Rule 1: A True HODLer Does Not Sell Their Coin.
Rule 2: A True HODLer Buys the Dip.
Rule 3: A True HODLer Remains Steadfast In Spite of FUD.
Rule 4: A True HODLer Keeps Their Coins Off Exchanges and Online Wallets.
Rule 5: A True HODLer Buys Goods and Services With Their Coin.
Rule 6: A True HODLer Spreads the Good Word.
Rule 7: A True HODLer Does Not Get FOMO When Another Coin Rises.
Rule 8: A True HODLer Will Run Their Own Full Node.

Exchanges are constantly faced with attacks by hackers. It is very not safe to keep a large amount of money there. Here again there was a message that huge sums were stolen from the Japanese stock exchange. Your personal wallet does not represent much interest, but the exchange with a huge turnover is a coveted piece of cake for scammers of hackers.

You're only safe when you have your coins in a hardware wallet and keep the recovery seed secured. Any exchange could get hacked anytime and that means you'd lose your funds, even if you have blocked the withdrawal from your account.

Leaving altcoins in exchanges is a risky to do because there are many complaints where they stored there coins in a exchange and suddenly they disappear. Do not leave your valuable untended just like said in many establishments , and its like also in cryptocurrecies that do not leave also your altcoins unatended in exchange , it maybe stolen or being gone without your presence. It is better to stored your altcoins in your private wallet rather than in exchange if you do not sell it immediately.

No, it is not safe to leave Altcoin in exchange.. An exchange is regarded as a marketplace in which cryptocurrencies are traded. The core function of an exchange is to ensure fair and orderly trading, as well as efficient dissemination of price information.  Exchanges are essentially big money targets for hackers who are constantly developing new ways to steal cryptocurrencies from people.  Hackers know that exchanges are mostly honey-pots, filled with private user information, and more importantly bitcoin that can be virtually instantly stolen and transferred away to an anonymous wallet. Exchanges do not provide you with any private keys, once your Altcoin is on an exchange its not technically yours anymore. The exchange just owes you that coin, much like a bank owes you any money you deposit.

In my own experience, when i left my coins on my trading exchange in hitbtc for almost two three months,so that in time when i need to sell or buy my coins its already there deposited, its so secured and  safe because trading exchange have its own wall defense against hacking system, but when the time they announced that my coin is no longer acceptable to there trading site because of  different matter, i convert  it to  bitcoin and transfer it to my local wallet for longterm investment.

In general, you don't need to change the password frequently, you just need to generate a random password with a random password generator.
Then set Google secondary validation, so if the exchange's database is not stolen, then your account is safe.

Be safer. Use a wallet.

There is always a possibility of an exchange closing buy never a wallet.
Governments are getting strict now when it comes to exchange. They want people who will use it to be registered with all information to their profiles.
It aint cool. But if they dont follow the rules they might be closed. So that is your risk there.

No matter how cool the exchange is, whether it is centralized or decentralized , hackers don't sleep! But the probability that a hacker will break into all the exchanges and wallets at once is zero, so I am calm about my funds. Cryptocurrency for a long time I keep on hardware wallets-Ledger and Trezor.

I am keeping some tokens for trading on famous and solid exchanges such as Bittrex,Binance and Kucoin,I am quite confident they are in a safe places and it is very comfortable for day trading.

Who knows the exchange will not run away with your money, who knows it wouldn't be hacked and all the database will be gone, who knows it would not be bankrupt. So i think its not safe.

It depends on the purpose of leaving your altcoin in an exchanges, if it is for a long term and then I will advise you move your coin away, but if it's a for a short term or you are into trading cryptos, then you should leave it on the exchanges.

Keeping tokens on the exchange is tantamount to saving your money in someone else's wallet. It is better to transfer funds to the exchange only for trading.

I leave them in the exchange even though it's not safe because setting up dozens of wallets for each of them is very inconvenient. It's not safe but I think Binance is very trusted. And also you don't know if these desktop wallets has no virus or malwares.
I also leave some on the exchange and there is no something bad happen on the coin. I have to fund it so I put it there but I make sure that it has security that connected on my cellphone for that  to know if someone entering my account without my knowledge. Though it much safer to put it on wallet, the fee is high so I have put it in exchange and make more investment for profit.  It is safe to leave coins in exchange just make  sure that you set security on it.

Generally, it is not advisable to leave your tokens on an exchange site, not just altcoins alone. When the site gets hacked, you are likely to loose your tokens which you left there. Hardly will you see people trying to hack an individual wallet, but it is common with exchange sites.

I think that you should not keep all your money in the exchange. Yes, it is very convenient and easy and you can split your funds between several exchanges, but it is also risky... Therefore the best way is to bring them to the wallet where you will have secret keys.

To be honest, i don't think it is the best solution to keep all the money in one place. Doesn't matter if it is your ethereum wallet or exchange. For example one month ago a lot of people who use My Ether Wallet lost all their money because MEW was hacked( So i guess it's better to keep the money in several wallets and exchanges.

It is not outrightly safe to do that. Over the years, owing to several occurrences, it has been noticed that the safest means of saving coins, which is somewhat 100% safe, is by saving in hardware wallet. If hackers can hack into other wallets, hacking into hardware wallet will be very difficult.

I think it is risky with all the recent hacks but it also depends on the exchange. Kucoin offers much more than 2-factor authentication and is probably among the most secure exchanges. I would still make sure you don't have too many funds on one single exchangevand spread the risks as much you can.

The security of the coin on the EXCHANGE is determined by the trading floor, if the trading floor has good security and efficiency, you will not worry about security, otherwise if you exchange on the EXCHANGE If you have poor security then I suggest you move to another trading floor because your property can disappear at any time by the hacker.

The best thing is a hardware wallet , if you do not have one then offline wallet or desktop wallet, and as a last option at least distribute your coins in several exchanges, two or three, and enable 2FA as a minimum, and in the case of having bad luck with one of those exchanges at least you do not lose all your assets.

Exchanges are not very safe. You need to store coins on exchanges only if you need for trading purpose. Using wallet which private key control by yourself has much better security than exchanges.

Safe or not your altcoin save or leave on your exchange account is depend how your account eschange secure ? if your exchange account low secure, your altcoin leave on your exchange will be risk and not safe, but if you have added more secure for your exchange and you have put authicator you altcoin leave on exhcange will be safe and you can leave how long do you want. But remember if exchange still exist it safe.

it is very risky, keep the digital assets in the exchange is not 100% safe, you better keep it in your personal wallet. pairs of layered security so you are not worried about your digital assets.

You do have a point, but also, the other problem about storing your altcoins in an exchange is that a coin could be delisted in a certain exchange, and if you didn't transfer it in your personal wallet before that could happen then it will be lost forever, that is one of the disadvantage of not storing it on your personal wallet. Also keep in your mind that from time to time a certain exchange could be down for some reasons, and what if you wanted to sell your coins because it is PUMPING already, then you could miss the opportunity to earn profits.

Any exchange can be hacked. Or the exchange may close for a number of reasons. I find that storing coins on a wallet is a more secure way.

If you are going to use them , then leave in Exchange. But if you just wanna hodl - you'd better withdraw it to the cold wallet. The reason is pretty simple - exchange may shut down or be hacked.

If you do not need to conduct daily trading, it is better not to leave your coins for long-term storage on the stock exchange. It is much more reliable to keep your savings in a safe and secure purse.

Any exchange, even the most popular and trusted, can be closed. Thus, if you are not an active trader, it is better to keep your crypto at the wallet (offline - for the maximum security).

Yes, we don't know what will happen to the exchanger in the next day so it is better to keep it on a wallet where we have full control over it. Leaving coins on exchanger with no intention to sell for a long time will be more risky.

Yes but not totally you can trust the exchange fully for 100% security. If you really wanted to make your tokens/coins secure better to put it in your wallet if you don't have not yet a plan to sell it.

If your plan is to hold your cryptos in the long term, it would be worth it to make an effort to find methods or wallets that allow you to protect your coins offline. Currently there are many options in this regard and it is not difficult to obtain them. And this is especially recommended in your case, as you only have plans to invest in three cryptos. When the idea is to hold many coins is more complicated and perhaps an exchange may seem more practical, but risky.

There is nothing 100% secure where sometimes you don't get access to your coins just because of carelessness or negligence...I have here for example on the exchange is two factor authentication, the key from which I kept on my laptop...I went for 2 days to rest in another city, and when I arrived I was flooded by neighbors...my laptop can not be restored, the data I have not been able to recover on the exchange and did not get. Therefore, here a lot depends on himself, and so I can say from myself that Yes it is safe.

Indeed all this is risky. I leave them in the stock even though it is not safe, although it is not safe but I think Binance is very believable. And you also do not know if this desktop wallet does not have any viruses or malware.

If you're planning to hold it and don't want to sell or exchange I really recommend to hold it on web wallet or hardware wallet. It is more secure if you save it on there

Actually leaving any coins to an exchange is very risky particularly to the new exchange which is not well known. If you do so choose Binance as this exchange is trusted and believable compared to newly ones. But if you've not planning to make a trading then I suggest to keep your coins in your cold wallet like owned personal hardware that secured with confidential password in accessing it.

Using wallet is more secure than exchanger, once I have exchanged my coins I immediately transfer it to my local wallet. Which is according to my friend he lost several coins in his wallet and he doesn't know why it happened. But of course you have to pick best exchanger out there, by reading its user review in order to minimize your lost in the future.

It is not safe to leave any of your coins in exchanges but I can understand why people leave their altcoins in exchanges as a means of storage. There are a lot of coins out there with so many wallets that it is not just possible to get all of the coins wallets. That aside, leaving your coins in an exchange puts your coins at a lot of risks because if the exchange gets hacked then you can end up losing all of your coins.

That depends on the security of the Exchange you are leaving it. There are a lot of exchanges which recently have reports of being hacked or even news about that their security is compromised. I guess it is safe to leave only small amounts of Alternate Coins but not hug amounts because they might find ways to hack and get that. It is also safe to keep in mind to not leave alternate coins in this exchanges because others can easily access this as long as they have the Private Key.

It is best to store your coins and altcoins if possible to your own wallet, and not in the exchange wallet. Its too risky, considering that anytime, there is a chance that the exchange will be attack by any some sort of hackers. If this really happen, you could lose all your coins in the exchange.

I advise you not to keep it for a long time, if just keeping it in a few days I think it does not matter. Because saving coins on the exchange is very vulnerable to hacking.
