Thank you in advance If you're entirely banking on "growth potential" to make your venture worthwhile, then you're definitely better off buying coins than mining with a laptop. (Or perhaps mining may be worth it if your electricity rate allows you to [indirectly] "purchase" coins at a better exchange rate by paying the power cost associated with mining, than by purchasing coins at an exchange, but the return potential under these conditions is still likely less than investing in the coin.) Additionally, the vast majority of laptops were not designed to be pegged 24/7. You'd have to find a better cooling solution if you wanted to reduce the impact on the lifespan of the hardware.
