Title: Case Cooling with 2 x 1080ti's - Rosewill vs SilverStone? Post by: Icezeus on January 25, 2018, 07:12:36 AM So I built an open air rig that sits in my garage for the time being (while it is cold).
However, in my gaming PC, I have 2 x 1080ti's that get super hot. I have a not so great case (a 10 year old Antec 900 https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129021). Would I get better cooling getting a newer case? The Antec 900 has zero cable management so the cables are blocking, I know not much, air. And I can't put a 120mm fan in the side panel because of my raised CPU cooler. Would either of these cases keep my 2 1080ti house heaters at least cooler inside of the case? (I don't mind the heat in the house...but I do mind having to dial back the power/temp limit using MSI Afterburner) https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811147157&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-VigLink-_-na-_-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=4003003&SID=jcu3sydyp6023z6x00053 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MUDWTDK?tag=gnviglink-20 Title: Re: Case Cooling with 2 x 1080ti's - Rosewill vs SilverStone? Post by: MATHReX on January 25, 2018, 07:52:41 AM As GTX 1080ti is a beefy GPU. The cooling must be strong to keep the temps in range.
As you're running 2x GTX 1080ti in a case, I'll recommend switching to a new case, possibly Silverstone. The basic mechanics to keep your system cool is to have an inward and outward flow of air, the quicker the air is renewed in the case, the better the cooling. The front panel of the case can act as an inward side, so insert some high RPM fans in there whereas the back of the case should have a few fans to push the air outward. 1. lower PL level of you card to 70-75% - that will bring down their power consumption to 170-200W per card 2. now you can just remove side panel of your case, and put 120mm fan to your cards I guess that would be enouph for time beeing Title: Re: Case Cooling with 2 x 1080ti's - Rosewill vs SilverStone? How far are the away to each other? 2 x MSI (https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA2W06V14017&cm_re=1080ti-_-14-137-113-_-Product) and they aren't too too close...but the backplates get super hot. I was hoping there would be a case out there that would have some sort of GPU "airflow compartment" similar to how many cases have a whole compartment for the power supply. I'm still looking. And I do have to keep the cards running at around 80% power and 72 degrees but I want them to be running full force to get the full affect. Or does it even matter? Will I be able to hash more with more power running to them full time? One would think.... |
