I think that it won't take long before we'll see people giving out merit point to their own various Bitcointalk accounts, thus leaving a digital trail that ties the accounts together. Will this new feature cause much additional workload for the mods? Since they now have something additional to 'monitor'. Answer to your query is that it will increase the work load but it is better for the community. Where exactly would they get their initial merit from? You do not get sMerit unless you are a source (past the initial phase) or someone gives you merit.
