A type of cold wallet, used to store offline bitcoins printed on paper. The printed information consists of two parts. One is the public address of the wallet, which is used to let other people see and receive the bitcoin. The rest of you are the secret key used to consume bitcoin.

The strength of a paper purse is that your secret key is not stored anywhere on the internet, absolutely safe from the internet. But if you make the bile or wallet fall into the hands of others, you will permanently lose the bitcoins that are stored in your wallet.

However Paper Wallets are barely used by the crypto holders because following reasons.
1. It is a slower method
2. Lack of physical security controls over paper wallet
3. Effect from natural disasters
4. More complexity of using it

Basically, a Paper Wallet is an impression with the address of Bitcoin and the QR. That is, it contains the basic information to send and receive Bitcoins.

Paper wallets are used by a lot of crypto holders.

This is not accurate at all.... a lot of people are using Paper wallets for long-term storage. If you do not use your bitcoins

regularly, then you should store them in either a Hardware wallet or a Paper wallet. Make sure you store copies of your

Paper wallets in different geographical locations. {to reduce the risk in the event of a natural disaster}

You can use either Bitaddress.org or even walletgenerator.net for multiple Crypto currencies.  ;) Download the more secure

version from GitHub and make sure you create the wallets offline.  ;D

Paper wallets are QR codes encrypting private keys of a wallet. People don't use them so much because they are hard to keep safe and intact.

Some notes on creating and using Bitcoin paper wallet

- Do not let anyone see your wallet, keep it as carefully as your identification

- Use quality ink but not internet connection

- Application to scan QR must be in good condition, not infected with virus

- Can decal for better preservation

Paper wallet is a private key of a wallet..

Paper wallet is a paper containing your private key, this is not important, the important thing how do you get this private key, the way you transfer it from somewhere to paper.

Before creating a wallet, make the following arrangements:

- A Bitcoin soft wallet already has the amount of coin in it

- Internet connection

- Printer with ink (can be printed black and white)

- Printing paper

- scissors

- Safe place

- Phone smart

I think it's about the same as credit card but the difference is the credit card made with celluloid material while paper wallet is printed on paper and use QR code to access its data.

Although I understand the benefits, I feel much more comfortable keeping my crypto on my hardware wallet rather than generating a paper wallet.

Well A little knowlage sharing please be informed that you should download it at your cellphone the same time you should download it at your laptop as for the next step print and hide it at your wallet that it can't be fold for future and safety storage.

I don't get it are saying its not important? Well base on how I know paper wallet you can use it for back up and safety storage for life time.

Paper wallet is like a hard wallet but it's printed in paper with your btc address and private key with qr code in it. so if you're planning to print one then keep it safe that no one can touch or handle it.

Keeping paper wallets safe isn't really the problem. The main problem from my perspective starts forming a threat, when people unaware of what can happen, import their private key(s) into whatever client. For that reason I always recommend people to just keep using a hardware wallet. I have a Trezor and a Nano Ledger S, where I personally prefer the on board recovery capabilities of the Ledger over that what Trezor is offering. I use the Ledger as cold storage solution, and the Trezor more as a safer way of conducting frequent transactions. The only thing that for some people might be an obstacle, is that a hardware wallet requires an initial purchase, where people can freely create a paper wallet at any time of the day if they so wish.

The issue i am having with paper wallet is synchronizing. You will not be able see your transaction till synchronizing of the wallet with the internet is achieved. Some time after payment you will still lose your money once the wallet due to one technical error or the other fail to open. This is most of the time the case.

I agree. Using the hardware wallet is much more comfortable and much more safe, as you still could get phished using paper wallet.

Most brand name devices are easily recognisable and are targeted by burglars, who might know about Bitcoin. There are

also Firmware that can be exploited. {BadUSB}   ::)

paper wallet is basically an address that can be used to send funds too.On the paper wallet you  print out your private and public key.

Its definitely worth pay for the additiona security and to buy a hard wallet to store BTC.
The OLD nano without a display had to display its master recovery words ON the PC, thus making it an issue whenthe PC is connected to internet.
The Nano S while powered by the PC will do everything on its display for initial setup and won't send anything back to the PC, so it`s more secured.

BIP-38 encryption hasn't been mentioned in this thread. For your Bitcoin paper wallets (and some other cryptocurrencies) you can use BIP-38 encryption to encrypt the private key that gets printed on the paper wallet. At the time of encryption you pick any password you want. Use a strong password.

Now the printed wallets are safe because others who see it can't do anything with it without your password. You can even safely have the "paper" wallets stored electronically as PDFs, etc.

You can store your password separately from the wallets. Just don't forget the password or you've lost access to the money.

I still find it more reliable than online wallet or desktop wallet as long as you are connected to the internet. The QR code makes it faster to extract your private key. And unless all people know you have bitcoin they wouldn't bother searching your home to a piece of paper containing your BTC. Have it laminated and put it in a safe like your jewelry or cash. You can even have it in between pages in your library.

We can keep it offline and useful for keep coins for long term and We can keep multiple copies of paper or pdf. but Need to keep safe from Fire or Water :D

It is a good way to keep your coins protected if you plan to accumulate them and in case some "friend of the alien" visit your computer, make a copy of your wallet and break the password by attacking it by brute force. The disadvantage is that the more layers of security you add, the more work, and maybe for a few satoshis, you do not need that much.

If we have a small amount of bitcoin, we can put it in the wallet application, there is no problem with the exchange. In fact, this benefit is to facilitate the transfer of funds, the roll-out, but the disadvantage is actually not the highest level of security.

It's not an android or any other type of application at all. If you have used an android wallet claiming to be as such, or generates paper wallet templates with private keys for you, then you'll likely get scammed at some point.

I personally always generate private keys through my core client, and write them on a piece of paper so I don't have to print anything. It's the old fashion way, but it's the way I feel the most comfortable with.

I would never ever use an app or whatever script that isn't open source. Nowadays people more than ever before are walking targets, literally and figuratively. Most of the newbies don't realize that yet unfortunately.

yes, I think every wallet has a risk, be it online or offline wallet. and I do not see much benefit by using papper wallet. because more risks, such as loss, damage, or tear and others.

if i have to choose between papper wallet and ledger nano, i will choose ledger.
