Hey guys, after a long spell away from mining, I decided to get back into it. I have discovered on an old hard drive back up 3 wallet.dat files.

Using a hex editor I was able to identify one as an old Litecoin wallet, however 2 files are causing me issues. I have no idea what coin the addresses relate to, is there any way to find out? I also have a text file with an old Dash address, however do not have the original Dash wallet file. Is there any way I can use this address or is it simply lost as the wallet file no longer exists.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Also, are there any altcoins to mine that are possibly solo mineable? Been doing some research but it seems difficulty shoots up on new coins very quickly and so become non-viable to solo mine.

So you basically recovered 3 files, one is a full wallet.dat file and the other two are just addresses? The litecoin wallet file could be recovered, however if there are no private keys associated with the other 2 texts you've recovered, then basically you cannot recover them unless you have your private key or your wallet.dat file.

As for your second question, I suggest you try to just join a pool of the coin you are trying to mine. That's easier than to solo mine and most pools only ask for 0.1-1% of your mined coins which I think wouldn't hurt the bank. Best coins today are zcash and ETH for me since even with the difficulty adjustments, it still gives you the best profit for your cards.

Ok, just to clarify. I am able to use the Litecoin wallet.dat file, which I have successfully imported into a fresh download of the qt.

I have 2 other wallet.dat files, however I have no idea which coin they are associated with.

The text file had a Dash coin address which I have been able to look up on the block explorer, and is a real shame I cannot use now as there are several dash coins associated with that address :(

So all I am really asking now is, is there any way I can identify what coin the other 2 wallet.dat files are for, I have the wallet addresses from the .dat files which I was able to get using a hex editor.

Perhaps you could you identify the coins from the formats of the addresses.

As for the Dash address: If anybody could spend coins with just the address, the system wouldn't be very secure. ;)

That's what I am trying to do :)

However I have very little knowledge of specific coin addresses, for example I could tell a BTC or LTC address but these I have no idea.

I've looked through Dash, Litecoin, and Bitcoin, but it doesn't seem that any of them have s/B prefixes. ( Maybe their testnets do?)

Although i guess this could've changed through the years with some coins? (I doubt that this has happend with BTC/LTC though.)

Yeah, I checked all the usual suspects and know its definitely not any of the main coins, I did mine lots of altcoins years ago but I have checked the ones I remember, Emerald, Diamond, etc. I just cannot think what they could be

If it seems the file 2 is from dash, did you try to open it using dash wallet? I dont know if it will work, but just a try if it will open. But seems thats an old wallet already in my opinion.

's' could be START (Startcoin)
'B' could be BLK (Blackcoin) or NBT (NuBits)

Unfortunately, that list only includes a small portion of the thousands of coins te have been created.
