it's an old post seen September 18 at page 27 of a 109 pages thread. i don't think he went through each page and saw this is a good one and merited it 41 times.

i think they created a topic buying merit on other forums, or facebook... and it happended

Maybe they are alts of eachother, maybe they know eachother (IRL), maybe he saw the post around when it was posted and remembered it, maybe he is involved in the project and wanted others to go to that thread.

The merit system is designed so that you can do what you please with it.

maybe that, we just see the outside of things. also, maybe merit has negative side, but more good thing it brings . hope

Yea what are the odds of that, well spotted but I dont know how this merit system would become a kind of self regulating economy.   It'd probably require the ability to down merit vote or veto a post as not suitable for merit, which might be over complicating things.     I dont know either of those posts are plus or minus in that way but that kind of 'coincidence' does make profile boosting a reasonable conclusion

That does not seem to be a deserving post worth 41 merits. You have done good thing by reporting it here. It is a matter of time when some high rank level member sees this and givs negative trust to these accounts. I think it is one of the merits of the new merit system that it will help in spotting alt accounts easily.

I think a lot of the spammers that have been grandfathered in with high ranks will eventually be caught out when they try to send merit to their alts.. and I only hope krishnaverma that as you say that the trusted community members can red trust all these alts and the main account too.

They needn't be alts or involved into buying/selling merits. Don't judge members without proof. And as also DT-member showed us, merits needn't only neccessarily spent for high quality posts. They can also be used to show respect to each other or just to support friends or reward helpful answers.
If you don't agree then think about this: Should we make differences in judging different members?

The merit system will not stop other people who born liars and cheaters. Merit will make some people out their paying under the table.
I did not mean that was what happened to that but my presumption those people who does not have friends here will hard to get merit even the post is quit good and quality.
It is lucky if someone their who will play this merit system in a fair way. Because one time I read in other section that there are groups here in btc, an own group of team.

Enough time to logout and login under another name ;) I have already said that multiply accounts can use this opportunity in abuse to pump their posts. Probably this merit system will help to uncover such people who has like 10 profiles on the forum, but this is not going to work long, people will get what is the deal fast and become more careful.

Yeah, I agree with you. This new merit system is a good way to catch those account farmer. We had been seeing a lot of merited posts that don't have any quality.
