Title: SatoshiRat - inmates bet on rat races
Post by: yellowdog on August 28, 2013, 03:30:51 PM
Hello guys,

I launched my first bitcoin project,satoshirat.com (http://satoshirat.com)

The development topic and the way to talk to the community is https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=283054.0 (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=283054.0)

Story
You are in a prison and together with your fellow inmates have thought to catch some rats and train them to run in races.
Each time your rat runs in a race, it will get some exp and gain levels. Higher the level, higher the speed and more races it will win.
The rat is actually your bitcoin address you use to enter the race.

How it works
You must use a bitcoin address that you can receive back the payments. You have to send BTC0.01 to take part in a race. After 5 rats gathers, the race begins. All BTC0.05 gathered in the pot are then split accordingly to the place your rat finishes the race. I don't keep anything all winnings goes back to your rat.
After each race your rat gains some exp, tires a bit and gets some damage. You have to wait some time to heal and rest before taking place in a new race.
If you do not want to wait(and if you appreciate my work and help me develop further, maybe even litecoin functionality) you can add a bribe of BTC0.001 to your payment.

Your rat also gains a new level when enough exp accumulates, gains +1 speed per level so it will have a better chance to outrun the other rats.

More on the links above.

Thx

Interesting, 0% house edge and you've still managed to make it profitable.

Currently i have no profit.
Just launched it. I am hoping people will be kind enough to throw that BTC0.001 bribe and cover my expenses.

Seems fun, reminds me of that bunny run game on one of the faucet sites.

It sounds great but won't work, since it's as fair as shit.  If I'm the highest level I'll be making a fortune off those new, "slower" players.

It sounds great but won't work, since it's as fair as shit.  If I'm the highest level I'll be making a fortune off those new, "slower" players.

Always lower level players are associated in a race first. If in the game queue there are 7 rats, 5 low level, 2 high level, the first game will be with the 5 low level rats, leaving the other 2 waiting in the game queue.

If another 5 new players come, again they will be associated first leaving the other 2 behind.

At a new level you gain +1 speed. So a battle between a level 1 rat and a level 2 will be a battle between rand(10,31) and rand(10,32), a little edge in my opinion.

Also i am considering, when players do get to some high levels, to not associate races if the level difference is to much. A level 9 rat cannot go in a race with a level 1, but only to let say level 5-13.

It is true, high level will have a small advantage over low level, but i am trying to minimize as much as i can this advantage, and permit new players catch up in leveling.

Damn, this looks great. Gonna try it in a bit!

EDIT: Tried it and I really like it. Well done. Brought some bribes to help you out!

Sent .011 for a race and bribe for a future race. I believe it is confirmed on blockchain but i my rat doesnt appear to be entered in the next race. still only 4 rats waiting and im assuming id be added to that:)

anyway, like the site and cant wait to build up some speed

Well, I have payed for 10 games of which 7 were bribed and I made a little bit of profit. It works great and it really is a interesting concept. Well done!

EDIT: Bought more games and bribes. You deserve it :3

This could turn out pretty big if the OP sticks to his concept.

It's already becoming widely popular and fun. I think it does have real potential.

How is a rats speed calculated, I see wide differences in speed?  Can I name my rat eventually?  What does it eat?

How is a rats speed calculated, I see wide differences in speed?  Can I name my rat eventually?  What does it eat?

Speed is a random number:
Quote
Maximum speed the rat can achieve.
This is influenced by stamina and health.
Maximum speed increases +1 per level.
The actual speed the rat will run in the race is a random between 10 and this speed.

So high level rats can still run very slow and lose.

Would be cool to see the actual odds of winning  listed for each rat, calculated out with the factors that effect it.  Can we get elephants next?

A level 1 rat has his speed rand(10,31)
A level 2 rat has his speed rand(10,32)
A level 3 rat has his speed rand(10,33)
A level 4 rat has his speed rand(10,34)
A level 5 rat has his speed rand(10,35)
A level 6 rat has his speed rand(10,36)

A level 1 cannot play with a level 6
A level 2 cannot play with a level 7

That are the odds.

I don't know how to compute the odds of the things i mentioned above.

If someone can help me with that it will be great.

A mathematical formula will be most welcomed

I don't know how to compute the odds of the things i mentioned above.

If someone can help me with that it will be great.

A mathematical formula will be most welcomed
A level 1 rat has a random speed of 10-31
A level 2 rat has a random speed of 10-32
A level 3 rat has a random speed of 10-33
A level 4 rat has a random speed of 10-34
A level 5 rat has a random speed of 10-35
A level 6 rat has a random speed of 10-36

Example of one race:

1 lvl 1: The difference between maximum and minimum speeds: 21
1 lvl 2: The difference between maximum and minimum speeds: 22
1 lvl 3: The difference between maximum and minimum speeds: 23
1 lvl 4: The difference between maximum and minimum speeds: 24
1 lvl 5: The difference between maximum and minimum speeds: 25
Total: 115

Now, divide the difference between min and max speeds by the total and multiply it by 100.
21 / 115 * 100 = 18.3%
22 / 115 * 100 = 19.1%
23 / 115 * 100 = 20.0%
24 / 115 * 100 = 20.9%
25 / 115 * 100 = 21.7%

Of course, this would be different depending on the actual level of the rats. For example, in a race with one lvl 1 rat and 4 lvl 5 rats, the level 1 would have 17.3% chances of winning and the rest of them would have 20.7% chances of winning.

A race with all of the rats being the same level would obviously give each one 20% chance of winning, so you can use that to see if your rat is above or below average. I don't think it really matters that much, though.

I love the concept, but the site design is terrible. Make the race course look like a prison, and add rat customization (fur etc) and you'll have a great site.

I focused more on functionality. In the next days i'll work on it to add some new features and to make it more appealing

Added some new augmentations to the rat, all operations will be made by the prison medic with rusted instruments.
