Title: 8 GPU Rig vertically mounted. Post by: poby on January 27, 2018, 06:46:16 AM I thought I would share my 8 GPU rig design. The 8 GPUs are mounted vertically in a frame of total size 50cm x 50cm x 35cm. In theory, there is room to mount up to 14 GPUs but I'm happy with just 8 in each rig. The one on the left with it's guts hanging out is the prototype. (One of these days I should shut it down and tidy up the cabling)
The overall size and dimension allows for easy pickup and carry and I suspect the extra space between each card allows them to run a little cooler. Single 1500 watt Silverstone titanium power supply in each along with an ASUS Z270-A motherboard, 120GB M.2 hard drive, 8GB ram, running windows 10 pro. GPUs are GIGABYTE 1070's in the first rig, 1070ti's in the 2nd. https://i.imgur.com/9t7gZsF.jpg Title: Re: 8 GPU Rig vertically mounted. Title: Re: 8 GPU Rig vertically mounted. Post by: poby on January 27, 2018, 10:49:50 AM Nice design. What are the average temps of the cards in each rig? Do you have to use the fans on high rpm? --ypsi At 20 degrees (celsius) ambient, average temperature around 54 degrees with fan speed around 55% Title: Re: 8 GPU Rig vertically mounted. Post by: bigdiqtaker on January 27, 2018, 11:42:15 AM Wouldn't it be better if you had the fans facing against open area. For example you have the fans facing outwards in all directions of the case? Because the fans suck air into the card and blow them from out the sides of the heatsink

Post by: klintistwood on January 27, 2018, 12:16:06 PM mines are vertical too but I have placed them on the outside of the rig so that the air sucked from fans is not taking warm air from the backplate of another gpu, This way I keep temps between 45 and 55°C.
bigdigtaker: that's exactly the setup I have Title: Re: 8 GPU Rig vertically mounted. I'm interested in seeing it |
