Title: Forget about merit! Let's just post normally
Post by: Jeremycoin on January 27, 2018, 03:21:12 PM
I see so many users have been doing a lot of discussion regarding the new merit system. Frankly, I myself have also been doing that.
I see so many rejections on it and on the other hand there are also so many supports on it.

Why don't we just calm down and let the new system runs its job? Theymos made this new system to keep the forum clean, so if we just keep criticizing it then when is the time for us to see how it really works?
I'm not saying that improvement in the system isn't needed, but don't you think this is too exaggerative?

I agree with you, and it is what I am trying to do. One good thing is that it seems to have boosted posting on the serious discussion boards. My greatest concern is that the "merit" system is creating distortions as the ponzi pushers seem to be harvesting the points, and that is going to lead to even more rubbish on the Frog Pond and other boards.

Shitposters aren't going to get anywhere by posting 'normally' aka shitposting hence why they're so furiously butthurt about the whole situation. Now they actually have to put some effort into their contributions and when you're so used to lazily shitposting or can't speak English very well this is going to be very difficulty for them. So decent posters can just continue on as normal but every other user who just came here with the intention of shitposting their way to x rank on their one/two/twelve/two hundred accounts aren't going to be able to do that any more.

Just post normally is the right thing to do. It can be obvious when people try to hard. Just give it your best and you will be rewarded.  :)

I see so many users have been doing a lot of discussion regarding the new merit system.
Since It is a new feature, everyone will try to learn it, criticise it and find bugs. It is a normal reaction. Everything will back to normal in the next week. Ehmm, by normal i mean that they will be newbies asking about the Merit system 10 times everyday, just the same as activity  :)

...to x rank on their one/two/twelve/two hundred accounts aren't going to be able to do that any more.
LoL@200, it will be hard for sure. We will have to be ready for a wave of beggars in the near future tho.

I think the fact that there are so many threads about the new system means it will have a good impact on the forum. If the system has some flaws they will be corrected once discovered.

Personally, I’m going to keep posting as usual, and I think I will be getting some merits. I don’t know if it will take me longer to achieve higher ranks, though, but I don’t care that much because what I earn through my signature campaign is a small part of my total income and I don't spend it, I leave it as an investment. So, even if campaigns were banned I wouldn’t care that much. Obviously, I prefer getting paid a bit for doing an activity I enjoy (posting), but I take it as a tip.

I tried to forget about it and post but it comes back to mind. I get reminded of it whenever I visit any other members profile, my own profile or see those posts. In fact, if I come to meta section to see any new announcement, I had to see at least 5-10 new threads about merits. I think it will take some time.

What's abnormal about discussing, even refuting, the merit system? For you as a Legendary it is easier to accept because the merit system places you in an almost eternal privilaged position.

Try as harder what we can improve our our post, and forget the merit system. But I am not againts a merit system the bitcointalk implement it to make us learn and make a constructive post.We should follow them and I think we should get merit from others if we improved it..
