Title: Lots of rejected shares.
Post by: orcalvr64 on July 12, 2011, 09:51:49 PM
Ever since I updated GUIminer, now that it uses phoenix, I have been getting a high number of rejected shares. Over the past 10 hours I have 59 accepted and 245 rejected. I can't figure out what is causing this bad ratio of accepted to rejected. I have an ATI Radeon 4670 running windows 7.The extra flags are worksize=32 and aggression=5. If you need anymore information let me know.

Probably because the GPU is slow and by the time it submits a share, it counts it as old. As to why you didn't have this problem before, i have no answer to that. Switch back to the older version then.

I'm running a backup pool with f=60 and a primary pool at f=30
the backup pool is running at 2.7Mhash/s and has 119 accepted and 1 stale

Same Problem here with phoenix and 4670.

Use poclbm or DiabloMiner instead.

Phoenix 1.5 / GuiMiner with Phoenix ~50-80% stales

poclbm atm <1%

Tested it with Ubuntu 11.04 SDK 2.1 , Ubuntu with SDK 2.4 and Windows 7 with 2.4. Everytime phoenix seems broken.

HD 6970 in the same machines with phoenix are ok (<1% stales)

Are you mining on a pool with long polling?

If not, then that explains things. Phoenix doesn't have an askrate by default, so without long polling slow miners end up wasting a ton of time on stale work. The fix is to alter the command line to use an askrate.

example:

-u http://name:password@pool.com:8332/;askrate=10

This would set an askrate of 10 seconds.

I'm not sure how to do this in GUIminer though.

i thought askrate is the work queue size (-q). this probably wouldn't help his stales. i'd get a different card anyway, 4670 is way too inefficient. i don't think new optimized miners support the hd4xxx series anyway. if your old guiminer worked fine, use that instead. your tweaking a few hashes out of your card won't make it efficient.

i think  running 2 instances of a miner increases stales dramatically. you really dont need to do it, just have a pool monitoring script

Thanks for all the help guys I  just switched back to the old miner and that fixed the problem. I've been planning on getting a new GPU for better mining anyway, but probably not for a while. The two Mh/s increase isn't worth all the stale shares.
