Title: What motherboard are good for 7 or 8 gpu?
Post by: calvinwch on January 27, 2018, 11:07:08 PM
any board can straight up with 7-8 with out pcie expansion card?

I had so much problem running the expansion card 1 to 4, freeze crash etc....

any board with 6 or 7 slot + m.2 are great, with out any other hardware install, currently i have the msi z270 gaming plus board.  it is only take up to 4 slot out of 6 unable to use other 2 slot due to it is share with other 2 slots.

ASUS PRIME Z270-P or A will do the job very nicely, up to 8 cards.

I have asus z270-a running 9 cards, no problem.
But I don't suggest 9 cards, 6 cards is best.

I have the Asus Prime Z270-P and have 6 cards running currently.  I have the ability to add 2 more cards through the M.2 slots but haven't done so yet.  The Prime Z270-A has one more slot, so can reach a total of 9 cards with the M.2 slots, so it's a little better but harder to find/more expensive.

I believe they are both relatively easy to set up and get running with multiple GPUs, not plug and play, but adjusting some bios settings and it's not too bad.

i hear this type board, but questions is this type board are very basic and limit resource.  the rig i have now with 4 gpu is running with Celeron cpu, it is way too damn slow every time i try to play it around do some modify change bla bla bla.  it crash on me some time or properly just way too slow i don't even know if it is still running. lol
beside that, the board is extra size just don't know if that is good or not.

i'm running win 10 64bit pro
8gb ddr4
celeron 3900
msi 270 gaming plus board
2.5" HDD
RX 580 8gb

i should use i3 cpu or maybe small SSD to make running smoothly

Biostar TB 250 BTC+ is my recommendation.

I have it and the old TB 85.  Very resilient, been very happy with biostar.

I have an 8 GPU board - ASUS Z270-AR. Very easy and worked first go.

I have a 7 GPU board - ASUS Z270-P. I wasted 6-8 hrs trying to get the 8th GPU working (on the second m.2 slot) and in the end - gave up.

I believe the general consensus is 8 cards with Asus z270-p and 9 cards with the z270-a. I recommend using linux distros for more than 8 cards. There are btc specific b250,b350, h81 and h110 mobos, but the prices are heavily inflated if they are not sold out.

Agree as it appears Windows has a limitation of 8 GPU's.

If you are (seriously) mining on Windows, you are doing things fundamentally wrong!
Any Celeron can easily handle 8 GPU’s and more!), but if you prefer to enjoy the Windows update and driver hell... ;-)

I'm not taking about if it can run 8 gpu, i'm sure once the windows setup and miner running it won't be any problem.   But the windows it self are running kinda slow when shut down and restart, and also adding another card to the system.  it take pretty long time to do small setup.
