You only need to hit forgot password and you will be taken to a process of recovery by google!

first step go gmail click on forgotten password they will ask you of your phone number the one you used in registering the gmail  then when you the number they will send a cold through your phone message will come to your phone and you put the cold they will the password for you to change.

-recovery email
-phone number to enter
-question + answer to create

Now if you don't have this three but you have another Gmail account of yours, you can create link between this two and you can recover your password with in two working days minimum.
I also experience this matter when I forget my working company Gmail I used my personal email to make link of this two.

Didn't you link your phone number when registering, you are supposed to add your phone number or alternative email

If you tied your phone number, then you can use password recovery with your mobile phone.

if you don't do any of these recovery setup on your gmail account
the last resort is if you still have your gmail account currently stay logged on your smartphone device
you can request for reset password by authenticating on your current logged on device
other than that... I don't think there is a way you can recover your gmail account

I think he has just created his Gmail account without link his email address or phone number on Google's Account Recovery page.

I agree. Moreover this 2FA helps to avoid the account to be hacked easily, to go deeper, all sites including social media logins will be hacked through hacked gmail account if linked. It's always safe to add mobile number and alternative email address in creating new main e-mail account.
