Title: Most overvalued coin?
Post by: Fou_Roi on January 28, 2018, 02:07:35 PM
I saw there are a lot of topics about undervalued coins, but I did not find any about overvalued coins. :)

I hope everyone agree that there is no point to talk about some pumped crap. So let's only talk about coins that should have real value, but for some reason are overvalued right now.

As for me, I think the most overvalued coin today is Ethereum. I don't understand why does it cost so much. It is not decentralized. It is not limited, so there is no deficit. Nowadays it doesn't look innovative. It is not even great as a cryptocurrency. Of course it is great for ICOs, but most of the ICOs are crap. :) Most of this coins will die in future. So it's just a hype and nothing more. :)

HOLY hell, you're new here as i can see. Yeah, Ethereum was the first to implement smart contracts - it's not a hype coin. It was the first coin for making a blockchain for other coins to be used in its protocol. If anything ETH deserves its value. Ripple on the other hand - I can say a lot more of when talking about over value. Please do your research.

Like 99% of the CMC.

Bitcoin and Ripple are my number 1 and 2.

Ethereum is valuable because it has a very strong network effect. Vitalik is now a "rockstar" in the crypto world, it's easy to meme him around and make the project famous. Technology wise, it's a clusterfuck waiting to happen. It doesn't scale (and the idea of smart contracts need scaling) and it's not decentralized by any means. The project is just a hype job since a lot of big brands got into the crypto bandwaggon by hoping on Ethereum.

But when it comes to overvalued scams, Ripple is it. Most people buying that shit don't even know that it's not even a proper cryptocurrency as most people expect a cryptocurrency to be. Most of the people buying Ripple think it's decentralized lol.

I think bitcoin is the most overvalued coin because there are lot of other cojns with the same properties of bitcoin but still bitcoin is very hige in price.Them ripple is a shit coin but the people are buying it only for the high price.

Oh my God, I agree with Swinging Phallus, apparently you really are a beginner.
Ethereum is the founder of ICO and all altcoins, and is used almost everywhere.
Therefore, the price is appropriate. I think it's better for you to learn about this before writing such.
And yes, in my opinion the most overrated coin is Ripple.

I don’t need to do researches because I know eveything. :) As I said before, in my opinion we don’t need all these coins, so all these ICOs are just a hype to make money from air. And this hype around ICOs creates a hype around ETH, so it is extremely overbought.
I don’t think that Ripple is overvalued now. Just a bit. :) $1 for it is okay price, but more then $1000 for ETH is a rediclious price in my opinion.  :)

First of all, make sure you are relaying a true statement. Ethereum is decentralized and it is the world's second-most-valuable cryptocurrency for your information. It has a purpose that other coins cannot take responsibility. It is used by developers to make transactions on its network. Most of the time, it is used for smart contracts and coins in ICOs are not all shitcoins. Try joining one so you will know.

No man, just no. Ethereum is much more than other shit coins. It's not a hype, It is more than just transacting value from one place to another. It is literally like an OS. It is the "windows" of crypto. You can build interactive automatic processes on the ethereum platform (dAPPs), and Ethereum if anything has much more decentralization than bitcoin because of its ASIC resistance. In fact Ethereum had the very first decentralized exchange (etherdelta).

Ripple (https://coincodex.com/crypto/ripple/) is for sure one of them. Has no value at all. Don't get me wrong, the use of blockchain technology is awesome, perfect implementation... but the Ripple company has nothing to do with the XRP coin...

Ethereum is one of the fundamental coins. Ripple seems to me more overvalued. It is credited with many advantages but its sharp collapse showed major shortcomings.

I am actually with you here. I know you will get a lot of people thinking you are saying the wrong things but this is precisely the reason why I stayed away from ETH for so long.

The reason I did buy a bit of ETH finally, luckily around the $600 range, is because I think this overvaluation will actually continue. And it might be overvalued for a very long time.

Centralized: people actually like this. If crypto people one day became as ideological as the original adopters, then maybe price will go down but we know this will not happen soon.
Inflationary: correct but the devs are fixing that.
Not a currency: correct but it never meant to be that primarily.

In my opinion, All hard fork coins of Bitcoin are the most overvalued cryptocurrency, copying Bitcoin source code and labeling it with another name that has "Bitcoin" on its name, with almost whole supply are pre-mined that are being distributed to all people that holds Bitcoin so that it will have a value coming from thin air, especially Bitcoin Cash that is trading over $1000 without having any use. Another overvalued cryptocurrency is Stellar Lumens, it is just a copy of Ripple so I can't see any special about this cryptocurrency, and it is now #6 in market cap lol.

Well, eth WAS very innovative and cool some time ago and now it sort of lives from the recognition of what it did in the past. If we talk like this then bitcoin is the most overvalued coin, since it transactions are taking the hell lot of time as well as are very expensive. Yet it lives and will live, because it was the first one and everyone appreciates it.
A lot of people say ripple is overvalued. I don't know, but I think it will rise more anyway.
My #1 choice is Bitcoin cash which is basically another bitcoin, which only has increased block size. I don't think it's really worth all that money.

Technically every coin is overvalued. Almost none of them have any intrinsic value, so you're buying mostly on speculation. But in terms of speculative coinage, Ripple is probably overvalued however it has given light to the banking system which crypto will most likely disrupt in the near future. Ripple might gain in value just because of the major established banking system giving it more widespread adoption. Bitcoin Cash seems overvalued to me.

I think the only most overvalued coin is Bitcoin.
It has no project but people are so crazy about getting a single Bitcoin while the price surges and skyrocketed to the moon.
There are a lot of must valuable coins, some blockchain that has speed and more scalability than Bitcoin.
That's the reason why Bitcoin is the most overvalued coin in Cryptocurrency market in my own opinion.

First of all dude Don't state false accusations that the ethereum is not decentralized and ethereum is not a overvalued coin as it is the second largest invested and used coin after ethereum as all the developers use it for the token transactions . It has much more responsibility than u think. For me if there is any coin which is overrated that would be Ripple as the others have also stated . Ripple is not decentralized and seriously i don't know why people are even investing in that shit coin.

Ripple actually has its own function in payments between companies and companies , overvalued or not it's really hard to say about that because the fluctuation of Ripple is hard to predict. I used to bought Ripples at 0.25$ for each 2 months ago and look at it now ? And if i was overvalued without any application so why people keep using it and buying it? Banks will not involved with this , specially with cryptocurrencies because they are their most terrifying enemy.

I would say it's bitcoin. The incredibly high value is not coherent with the fact that this coin will gradually disappear from the market and that the few companies that adopted it are now rolling back and moving to other crypto. I feel like people don't want to open their eyes, but the BTC future does not look bright to me.

I can say that, Bitcoin is overvalued. It can come at this price in time but not within a year. Groving too fast. It will collapse due to its old technology, transfer fees etc. Or may be stay in its position as classics. Just like gold. Eventually it's father of crypto world...
People need to be aware this there are big competitors like Ethereum(the father of the most tokens), NEO(zero fees), Dogecoin(sleeping giant), Ripple etc.

Care to elaborate on how Dogecoin is a sleeping giant?

Its supply is in billions and I deem any coin which has more than 100 million coins in total supply useless!

Cardano

Bitcoin overvalued old coin which is just hyped and survived because one of the first who introduced blockchain technology to this world.

Sooner or later Bitcoin would need to keep up with other cryptocurrencies around, they're all catching up so fast EVEN though theyre using Bitcoin as a stepping stone. Unless they start implementing bigger changes themselves, ETH or other 'who knows *uhum Enigma* might catch up sooner or later.

I would say Bitcoin Gold and all other pointless forks. $190 for what?
All those forks are made for profit and nothing else.

Another pick would be TRON. Most people doesn't even know what is about but are buying because of hype.

Well ethereum has smart contract and a lot of people are using it for ico, crypto kitties etc so it's certainly not overvalued. Bitcoin is overvalued because it is useless as currency and only act as a digital gold/speculative asset. Trx is overvalued because no matter what kind of potential it has, right now it only has a whitepaper and can't justify that kind of marketcap.

Pretty funny to hear that Bitcoin is useless as currency while it is used as currency since 2009 and still has a great success. :) When big company wants to support cryptocurrency, it definitely will add bitcoin, not ethereum. :) Smart contracts is a great technology, but who will we need ethereum without it? Not a lot of people. :) Because it is only about ICOs. While there is a lot of hype around ICOs, there is a lot of hype around ethereum. 2017 was a year of ICOs, but I'm pretty sure that in 2018 we will not see so much of them. Just because finally everyone will be tired of these crappy coins. :) IMO

p.s. cryptokitties are crap :)

Most overvalued coin?

0. Ripple, must be ~0.20$
1. Ripple
2. Ripple
3. Bitcoin Gold, must be under 50$

Most undervalued coin?
1. Dash
2. Monero/Zcash

+upvote for this, XRP lovers must take a close look on the charts, seems ~0.20$ is legit price lol

Ripple is a project which has its flaws, and also has its pros. I for one have held on to a little bit of ripple for months now, and it has given me very nice returns.

Going back to the OP, to decide which is the most undervalued coin, we should probably start looking at coinmarketcap's most valued, and decide if that value is legitimate. Bitcoin is clearly the culprit, it is definitely the most overvalued coin at this moment. It doesn't perform nearly as well as some other coins do, its earned some of that price being branded the digital gold, store of value etc etc, however the majority of that price is hyper inflated by the media. Turn on the news, grab a paper, or scroll through some news portals online - how often do you see the word bitcoin compared to last year? How many stories you can read of bitcoin millionaires?

People love the hype, and want to be part of it...

i certainly do not know all the coins, but lately I have noticed two coins which seemingly out of nowhere occupy places in the top 10 of all coins: Tron and Cardano. I took a closer look at these two coins and realized that there is only an idea behind these coins and that the implementation is still a long way off. Although the intentions and technologies are described in great detail in the respective whitebooks, this does not justify a billion-dollar market capitalization for a long time.

They have no strong project but only because Bitcoin is the mother of all Cryptocurrencies and Ripple had become the most anticipated Billion coin supply but both of them have no community contributions.
There are a lot of undervalued coins today, they should be invested than those two coins I mentioned above.

IMHO there are a lot of overvalued coins in cryto) But top 3 in my list is IOTA, XRP, EOS. First two are fully centralized and price all depends on new and hype. Eos have very strange ICO.
Eth has a great price but also has a lot of usage in crypto. Only problem I see with ETH is an unlimited supply.

I will not agree with the viewpoint of the author of this post. Ethereum true price is larger, and it is not undervalued. In my opinion, Bitcoin Gold is the cryptocurrency that should not cost so much.

Agree with the above comment. Got to be the forked Bitcoin versions.
EOS, Ethereum are getting a lot of mentions and I do not understand that.

Ethereum has proved itself massively as somethng different to Bitcoin and EOS is that again, but in an earlier state.

EOS might have a lot of money, but they are also doing lots of development which is very active, they are taking things slow, proving concepts internally (Steemit), which I feel is a very good way of going.
I noticed their Dawn 3.0 is in Alpha now too, and their value reflects in my opinion.

The most overvalued coin is non other than Bitcoin because it's only purpose is to buy and hold, when the price increased then sell, if the price dropped then buy again, again and again and again.
The only thing that makes it popular because Bitcoin is the mother of all Cryptocurrency and nothing more.
It's price is manipulated by Crypto Whales since the beginning.
I really don't trust Bitcoin this time because it is for me the cancer of Crypto Market. Altcoins shouldn't going down when Bitcoin drops because Altcoins should not be related Into Bitcoin and I hate Bitcoin because of this.

According to my opinion, BitcoinCash(BCH) is overvalued. It can come at this price in time but not within a year. Etheruem has very good and fast network and is a good platform for the ICOs. Both Bitcoin and Ethereum are good in different aspects because Ethereum is best known for short term investment and Bitcoin is good for long term investment. So, one should have to study on crypto before investing here.

Well, for me I would agree with some experts that Bitcoin Cash BCH is the real Bitcoin and the Bitcoin that is having the higher market cap is the fork of Bitcoin Cash.
Bitcoin network is the slowest and cannot handle stress and creates heavy congestion and that what makes it dragged down or stayed on it's price range today.
Bitcoin is clearly overvalued because people are willing to pay more because of it's popularity but actually it's the least coin when we care about Crypto better features and capabilities.

There are many coins which are total crap but many new people around this crypto world don't do proper research about the coin and buy them and like this many crap coins which have no value go up in price and because so much overvalued then their actual prices. One coin I see is Doge it has no real value but because of new people love to trade in this coin they do and making the price go higher.

The most overpriced coin is bitcoin. In December, he proved himself just like a financial bubble. True, bitcoin himself is not to blame for this. People are guilty, who constantly invested in it with the speculative goal of expecting profit from the growth of its price.
Ethereum, on the contrary, is an under-priced coin compared to the role and functions this coin performs. This is one of the best and most promising coins.

Not all, just a few altcoins are overpriced. But this does not affect the investors. The higher the value, the higher the profit. As the price of bitcoin at the end of 2017 has risen to $ 20,000. That made a lot of people quick to become rich.

It would be the king of cryptocurrencies which is BITCOIN,bitcoin doesnt have any good working product/services it doesnt have a good platform like ethereum, only means this is just a plain decentralized cryptocurrency that has no use at all, payments? no way you dont want to pay a candy worth of $1 then the fee would be $10,it is the most overvalued coin of all time. The only thing why bitcoin has been pumping because it is the most well known cryptocurrency which these new investors wanted to get,not knowing theres a lot of coins out there that has more potentials than bitcoin.

There are so many over valued coins right now. I'm not over reacting or against it but I think its not right anymore. Their price's are rising in just a short time, how could that be if other coins are falling down.

Interesting topic, but the prices of coins are only based on its supply and demand so when there is high demand for that coin the coin will be over valued. So I will say bitcoin is the most over valued coin since there are lot of other coins have better feautres than bitcoin but still bitcoin is most expensive coin. The only reason for this is bitcoin was the first ever crypto invesnted but it may change in the futre.

Probably bitcoin... but than again, if the market says it's worth that, than it is, probably until it dominance falls. I rather like ETH and NEO.

If you ask me, undervalued tokens are POWR, ARK etc... they have nice projects, but somehow can't get any gain in value :(

An example of overvalued market capitalization is the Steem crypto currency. In July 2016, its capitalization formally amounted to $ 400 million, but this was achieved with the specially blocked Steem Power, which was used as a resource for voting in the same social network. Thus, most of the new Steem was locked as Steem Power by default and only part of the coins participated in the actual turnover.

By focusing on smart contract functionality, ethereum does allow a wealth of functionality to run inside its blockchain, in a way that's currently very difficult or impossible to do with bitcoin or other blockchains.

Haha, ETH fanboys are always so funny. :) BTC fee is $0.8 now. Wake up, fanboy. :) BTC is the most reliable and time-tested crypto. ETH was popular only because of the shitcoins boom.
By the way, the rhetoric of your messiah Vitalik is not on your side. Today he is warning us about cryptocurrency investment and tomorrow he can say that crypto is a crap. And where will be your ETH? :)
BTC can't be crashed by one man. Even GOVERNMENTS were trying to affect BTC, but it still alive. And will be alive.
While ETH will die easily if Vitalik will lose interest in it.

Good luck, fanboy :)

oh bro, just because their price is high and tx fee also high, not mean it's overvalued. you can't say bitcoin or eth overvalued because both have wide usage, they deserves to have high price

I think that absolutely all the coins are overpriced! Why did they so soared in such a short space?

I believe that NEO is very overrated now. It's just a Chinese Ethereum clone, why is it worth $ 130?! It should cost 10-15$.

1. Because population of China - it is third part of world's population
2. Because NEO have no so many shit tokens in the blockchain and not oveitrloaded
3. Because NEO is more attractive for investors than Ethereum
Is dependence on one country is good? What will happen if tomorrow the Chinese Communist Party creates another ban?

NEO, ETH and maybe WAVES are already overvalued. Just check how much % have they raised already-

Undervalued - Wepower, Medicalchain, Copytrack, Zeepin

Though they are all just starting out and still have a while to go before they truly come into their own. I feel now its a great time to pick some of these up while they are low before they start announcing milestones and release products.

The most undervalued is probably ETH. For such a useful coin, it doesn't seem to have the appropriate market share. considering 90% of the other coins rely on it, but only has 20% of the cap.

Monero.

Regarding the features, its a dinosaur. There are better alternatives. I dont see the reason why its still worth  a few hunderd bucks

TRON (#16).  No product, whitepapper - Filecoin plagiary, have borrowed a lot from LBRY.
Dentacoin (#73). No product.
Electroneum (#46). Monero 100% clone.
Cardano (#6). Present itself as an anonymous coin, but their anonymity came up to be fiction. The coin has nothing unique, but herewith it takes 26th position in capitalization.
And, surely, my "favourite" Ripple (#3). Centralized and speculative one.

If you don't want to lose your money, I do not recommend to invest in these coins.  ;)

I think it's bitcoin. And we are convinced of this by example. When he rose abruptly to high prices, and then collapsed and stayed. This is an overstatement of prices.

It is Bitcoin. There are a lot of good coins, some blockchain that has speed and more scalability than Bitcoin. It will collapse due to its old technology, transfer fees etc.or may be stay as gold.

Almost a month have passed since my first post. ETH fanboys attacked me and said that ETH is not overvalued. :) ETH was 0,12 BTC. Now it is 0,08 BTC. Lost more than 20%

And this is just the beginning.

Good luck, ETH fanboys  :)
As I said before "And this is just the beginning."

And so a month have passed and now ETH is 0.05 BTC.

But I still continue to say that this is just the beginning. :)

Good luck, ETH fanboys  :)
