Title: [Scam Warning] [ANN] [BFC] Butterflycoin SHA-256 power for ButterflyLabs miners
Post by: Patches OHulahan on August 30, 2013, 01:13:12 PM
Butterflycoin, the newest digital coin.

With many coins that arrive on scene, we normally don’t hear about them until after they’ve been out for a while. And usually by then, the easy coins are mined up.
Initially I wanted to give a few months’ notice to be as fair as possible, but after talking with some friends I realized this is the internet, and a few months is too long. So to make this Butterflycoin’s launch as fair as possible, I’ve decided to give a five day notice before Butterflycoin is released. Today is Monday, and Butterflycoin will be released on Friday night. There is also a countdown counter on the official site. And it gives a 5 day notice, so everyone can be prepared.

Official Website: http://butterflycoin.com/

Download (Windows only): http://rghost.net/48473355
Password will be released in time for the public release. Premining is donation only.
Donate 0.01 BTC to 15n4M8781mX2Eu6sM2L2bFz9vyjWsD6QGH to be among the very first miners.  Post sending address below and you will get PM.

Some Specs:
SHA-256 based
30 sec block targets
Re-target every 2 blocks
POW / POS
30 coins per block
7 billion total coins (one for each human currently alive at time of release)
Fair release

"Premining is donation only" - Do not be fooled. You have been mining yourself already.

"Fair release" and "Donate a few BTC to be among the first" - contradict each other.

So does this mean it will be released about 8 months from now?

If you wanted to test your network, you could have created a testnet...

don't call it fair release if you're trying to get as much money of of it before it dies next weekend.

Constructive feedback : It may be wise to reconsider SHA-256. It's an invitation for anyone with an ASIC to come and freeze your blockchain by driving up the difficulty to enormous hights and then leaving.

Another tip : You might wanna change the name to a different, equally beautiful insect...DragonflyCoin for example. The BFL association is very unfortunate ;)

Maybe the OP of this thread is a scammer i mean yesterday he made a post about how to set difficult in CGminer and today is he releasing a new coin.. Perhaps he took advantage of the fact that there was no BTC thread about this new coin (there is on cryptocointalk) and made this post to scam bitcoin, the downloaded wallet could be any wallet just renamed..

Coin was actually announced earlier on, not sure if he's even the developer behind it.

Jerry did announce the Coin here:
https://cryptocointalk.com/topic/1092-pre-ann-butterflycoin-bfc-pre-announcement/ (https://cryptocointalk.com/topic/1092-pre-ann-butterflycoin-bfc-pre-announcement/)

Now we would need verification if the creator of this thread here is the same person, which might not be the case as he is asking for a BTC donation, which Jerry does not do in the original thread I link, nor does he mention a donation being necessary in his videos!

It might very well be that Patches OHulahan here is not the actual creator, but is just trying to take advantage of Jerry's new coin

Its a password protected rar lol he gives you the pass when you "donate". I just wanted to load it up and see which client it was that he just renamed the file of to look like a new coin

The days of prepaying to premine have come

No, it seems there is a real coin launch happening - nothing to do with this post here - that will be released in a few hours. The original announcement has none of the prepay donation crap in it.

I applied the Scam Warning, not based on the coin itself, but because I do not believe that it is the OP's coin to release. It seems to be a bad copy and paste from its original release here https://cryptocointalk.com/topic/1092-pre-ann-butterflycoin-bfc-pre-announcement/ with the additional fee to premine, which is not an option in the real thread.

Thank you Sampey for finding the original coin announcement thread.

I don't understand why you can't censor his BTC addy and lock this thread.

I mean the scam is pretty obvious here.

Yep, I can warn people and help bring scams to attention, however I don't necessarily have the right to use my opinion towards applying a permanent answer to his thread aka locking it or editing it.

For all we know, the whole operation could not be a scam, and just horribly worded and executed. If I lock the thread and such, the OP would have no opportunity to explain, if we were all mistaken, or rectify if we aren't. If people decide to send the guy Bitcoins without reading the 2 pages of scam accusations, and the warning tag, its on them, but everyone that has posted in the thread has done their part in neutralizing a potential scam.

Crazy, went from being a innocent newbie just getting into Bitcoin wanting a donation to masterminding his own scheme to scam Bitcoins all in the space of 3 day.

I've been following Jerry (aka: DakotaEllington) on his youtube channel for a long time.  One of the reasons for creating this coin was to provide additional SHA-256 coins to mine for people who's USB Eruptors and Jalapenos are becoming obsolete in the coming few months.

Anyways, the OP of this thread is not Jerry.  He's been alerted by other forum members on cryptocointalk.com

https://cryptocointalk.com/topic/1092-pre-ann-butterflycoin-bfc-pre-announcement/?p=5505

Jerry is a genuine/honest person and will never try to pull this "send donations for password" BS.  His videos speak for themselves.

Also, Jerry is is from Alabama and as far as I know he does not speak German.  If you check the OP's previous posts you will know what I'm talking about.

why?

Well, you don't have to if you don't want to.

I personally don't cuz I don't have any ASIC gear and my GPUs are all pointed to LTC.

You can check out his video regarding his coin, if your "question" is genuine that is.

Although this is considered a Scam (and I concur with that impression) I try to derive something useful from this thread. Maybe a little bit of technical background information on how PoS might be able to work?
Can you please explain how PoS works at Butterflycoin? I mean, the leading PoW/PoS crypto coin (and btw. the first one that implemented a working PoS mechanism!) doesn't have a hard cap. A reward for putting the coins at stake incentivizes the miners to secure the network by generating PoS blocks.

How does Butterflycoin achieve this? Or what happens if the 7 billion cap is reached after roughly 222 years (if my math is correct). Is Butterflycoin the at the end by then (I know it is some time until then, but it looks like broken by design)?

Or should I be less formal and just say:

http://cdn.meme.li/i/pak0f.jpg

Would be nice to find this at Butterflycoin.
All who doubt finding it there might consider Peercoin (http://www.peercoin.net) ;)
