Title: Buying coins online
Post by: Dorrace on August 30, 2013, 07:02:50 PM
Why is it so difficult to buy coin from Mt Gox. Why impose such small limits on purchases there as well? Can you guys list any alternative payment sites?

Campbx, coinbase, btc-e, are better exchanges. Depends on which part of the world you are.

There is a number of different ways. Like the ones mentioned above. However, you could always purchase coins here at the forums with some people offering to sell over at the currency exchange sub-forum.

The answer to your question: They get the most publicity. They are always featuring in the news for good and bad reasons. However, people read this and see they are the #1 largest used exchange. Therefore, people tend to trust the biggest leading companies. Then when they reach a certain amount of members or bitcoin deposited/withdrawn they will be featured in the news again. Which starts the cycle all over again. However, bitstamp and coinbase are slowly catching up and getting more publicity.

MtGox is the biggest (well I'm not sure if it still is) exchange, so it is mentioned in all the news articles and it's prices are referenced most often. But it has been having problems and it could be dethroned soon. Bitstamp is quickly catching up to it in volume, and LocalBitcoins no longer uses it as the default price reference because its prices are completely out of line with the rest of the exchanges.

In the U.S., the best places to get bitcoins now are CoinBase, if you don't mind the link to your bank account and the new account delay, or LocalBitcoins, which gives you a very large variety of payment options (including face-to-face with cash).

You can always set up a meeting and meet your trader on some dark street. Recognizable pattern: wear yellow trousers :D
It was like that past times.. Great times man.

I use CoinBase and it's worked well for me - you just have to wait 5 days for your transactions for the first month.

Thanks guys, I tried out btcquick.com it's pretty easy and I can use my credit card through google wallet. The thing is I was in a bit of a hurry to get the coin but I'm overseas on the other side of the world in one of the worst places to get bitcoin. Turkey.

I'm still waiting for the pending transaction on google wallet -_- I NEED to play satoshidice. The fate of the world depends on it, quite literally. :'(

I have heard bad stories about btcquick (like delays, or maybe problems with the transfers....). So, you should try to contact their support.
It might take a while before you see your coins :(

A wire transfer is always safer, even if it takes a few business days to proceed. And bitstamp is a safe exchange.

Out of all possible dice sites, why would you play on Satoshi Dice?

why did you include a smarturl.it? Seems fishy.
Real (direct) link is: https://www.bitcoin.de

WAS.
They have so many problems with withdrawals, communication...
You should find an other exchange now.

I think their site is getting killed by feds and regulations, you should try a different site.

It these guys come back on-line http://bitinstant.com they were great to convert cash to an exchange like bitstamp.net or btc-e.com. It took out all the conversion to fiat documentation that is required at banks and the fees were reasonable.

bitstamp.net especially if you're European.

mtgox needs your National ID, your receipt of your house to know where do you live, and almost your DNA.
Bitstamp.net is beautiful, cheap and fast. And is going to kill mtgox in few weeks...

(anyway, I have never used mtgox because of the difficulty of singing up)

It is also possible to buy with paysafecard, on virwox.com, but there are TERRIBLE fees so I don't recommend that.

I bought off btcquick first I put through a $200 payment but it didnt go through It got stuck in google wallet I put another $150 through which worked well. I kinda like btcquick they give you a private key that you just sweep into your wallet. The fee is about 7.5% at my current membership level but after you spend some time on there you get a lower percentage.

It's a bit pricey but you're paying an extra $5-10 per bitcoin which is fair enough since I use a credit card.

But their downside is they don't give you an option to sell . You're just buying coins off then where as my gox it's pretty much trading with other people.
