Title: Top Privacy Coin of 2018?
Post by: CryptoThrasher on January 30, 2018, 06:11:10 PM
Which privacy coin do you think will out last the rest in 2018? And why?

Monero (XMR)

ZCash (ZEC)

Navcoin (NAV)

PIVX (PIVX)

DeepOnion (ONION)

Verge (XVG)

Spectrecoin (XSPEC)

Sumokoin (SUMO)

I think Zcash the leader among these all the coins. Monero plans to unite with Litecoin, but this is unlikely to make them more anonymous and in demand.

I think DeepOnion will have the last laugh. They are having a discount atm so no better time to stock up. Make sure to have at least 50 of them (the more the merrier) to be able to participate in the best Airdrop in Cryptoland. The Community is awesome, the development is top notch, mobile wallets on the way and a brand new wallet just went live. Roadmap is very promising. I'm betting big on DeepOnion, it's my biggest investment among all my coins. Sign up at the community, do your research and I'm sure you'll be a believer. See you at https://deeponion.org/community/ (https://deeponion.org/community/)

Monero is the king and will continue to be so. DeepOnion seems to be mostly hype to me and I think it will die out after the airdrop. Verge developers seem to be a little bit unreliable, they finally released wraith which is a big step forward but it took a long time. XSPEC is the one that I think can rival Monero if any but as said I think Monero will remain the no 1 privacy coin.

DeepOnion would be my pick. I believe it will be even more popular after the airdrops are over and people will be investing more in it. What's more, by then a lot of new features will have been introduced to the project, wallets for Android and iOS will have probably been released (the developers have already shown us a sneak peek for the Android wallet and it's beautiful) and DeepOnion will have VoteCentral, where DeepOnion holders will be able to suggest and vote on matters that concern the community.

No matter Monero is going good and is already at a good price. Zcash seems too a good privacy coin. but i will prefer here DeepOnion because their development is going good. Their wallet is connected with TOR latest version. Mobile wallet is also on its way. So it means dev are working and are listening to their community and no matter DeepOnion airdrops is going the best airdrops. So may be you can get more profit from DeepOnion.

Replace either verge or pivx with COLOSSUSCOINXT (COLX).  It's slowly coming together with it's revised roadmap, white paper about to be released and will be added to more exchanges this quarter and throughout.

Do I own it...yep and I don't hide from the fact that I'm trying to make money.  I'm not telling you to buy it, but I am saying "don't sleep on it COLX"! And no this is not a pump and dump...it's a HODL!!!

This list isn't complete without ZCoin XZC.. which uses Zerocoin, the more conservative and proven application of Zero Knowledge Proof..

PivX has a great community but doesnt change the fact they copied the Zerocoin Protocol from ZCoin..

Did you just assume Verge has more than one developer? ;)

As seen in my signature my choice is DeepOnion. It has never failed to impress me in the last six month and I can't even image what developments will follow in 2018. It has the best vision and the most active devs backed with the most loyal community. All this factors combined will make Onions to one of the biggest player in the crypto world. Screenshot my words.

DeepOnion prices will crash once the airdrops are over.  Right now, people aren't selling because it will disqualify them from future airdrops but once there are no more airdrops, it will be a dumping spree.  I wouldn't buy DeepOnions as an investment but it is a good for those who are in the airdrop.  I would cash out most of my earnings one round before the last airdrop to be safe.

This is not accurate since you are allowed to sell as many coins as you wish. Selling does not disqualify you. You only need 50 coins in your wallet. Given the momentary overall price dump this is not that much money...

As everyone can see, I do support DO and I think the coin and project is going to be a very successful even after the airdrop, HOWEVER I also believe Monero as an old dog is atm one of the best coins (despite the bad press)

Obviously, DeepOnion will be the top one! there are many reasons! Democracy on the blockchain, is my favorite slogan for DeepOnion, via VoteCentral, this feature is coming soon to this project among other features like DeepSend, DeepVault web app version, DeepVault wallet is available already and anyone can authenticate documents on the blockchain now. Big community, 1k+ members every week! more developers joining!!  New exchanges adding DeepOnion ($ONION), including many decentralized exchanges!  BTW buy DeepOnion, price still very affordable, soon will launch to the moon!

Monero is the only coin that I see as a privacy coin because of its rich features like ring signature, stealth address etc. Other than monero there are some privacy coins which are just a copy paste of the existing technology into a new one. Some coins are shilled heavily by their community as privacy coins ex: verge

Adding some more privacy coins like Zencash, Hush , Cloak to the list. Top winner may be Zcash
or Monero but most of the smaller marketcap and less known privacy coins should do well also.

Monero, Zcash and DeepUnion are equally strong, but I think the trend is deep union, why? deep union has a community that continues to grow and very large. but if you are interested to be an investor in ICO project, please join the daneel project, ICO has been started from january 29, check in www.daneel.io

Couldn't have said it better myself. Monero is the best, and nothing has come close to challenging it. XSPEC has a good chance to challenge it if it follows through with its promises. Check XSPEC again towards Q3 and then see how the project is going.

I believe it will be onion or xspec. Xspec are working on stealth staking. If they can pull it off it will be king.

Wasn't hush abandoned lately? The owner shut down the servers and is giving away the project.

Ok.  It looks like they have updated the rules.  https://deeponion.org/airdrop.html  It use to be that you must hold at least 90% of your DeepOnion coins.  I guess after they modified the rules, that is why the price has been declining.  I still wouldn't buy this coin and it's only good for those who get them free.

Verge or ZClassic.

Verge seems to have a lot of partnerships in the works and amazing tech with Wraith and stealth transactions. It's also really f*cking fast.

Verge has been over pumped already so the train has already left the station - well done to those that got in on time! For others looking for the next train i'd say xspec and deeponion due to the low market cap and impressive roadmap. Both coins will do well in 2018 so worth stocking up while they're cheap

DeepOnion for me, once DeepSend its released we should see another price grow, and its scheduled once the airdrop ends, so it will prevent the price from dropping after the airdrop.

Verge has been very unreliable on its releases

Man, get your facts straight, please. Otherwise you seem ridiculous. The 90% rule was removed even before I joined the project, which was back in November. Back then DeepOnion's price was not more than $2. Now it's $6-$7. What decline are you talking about? Sure, we didn't keep our ATH price but which coin is up all the time? Look around you. 99% of the altcoins are in red and the 1% that isn't has recently introduced one feature or another which has created hype and upped the price.

The only way the airdrop is affecting the price is by keeping it low for the moment. I advise you to buy now because after the airdrops end you won't afford too many Onions.

In my opinion DeepOnion will be one of the greatest privacy coins of 2018.

As you will know this week dev team has introduced two new features related to anonymity. The first one, the lastest TOR protocol version 0.3.3. And the second one, the OBFS4 protocol. With OBFS4 people from censoring countries  will be able to use TOR network. In the near future Deepsend protocol will be available and we will have fully untraceable transactions. TOR + Deepsend = full anonymity.

Monero (XMR) and ZCash (ZEC), because these two tokens are very old anonymous tokens, have a large user base.

But anonymous tokens face a problem: many anonymous tokens are used for money laundering and illegal crime, and may face regulatory problems.

Monero by a mile. Good technology, big community, not bad for mining either. I expect some projects coming from this one and then it could flourish.

I would have said that Deeponion has a fair chance, but I had some bad experience with this token. Their support didn't really show supportive and I noticed many people having problems as well. I don't say it is not fair and square, but I stayed out and will continue doing so.

By looking at the overall community interest I just don't see rest of the bunch potentially anywhere near these two (maybe Zcash but it never outlived the initial hype), not at the moment at least.

I have the same opinion with you. Monero is the first and the most popular one and it will remain as the top always.
Deeponion has big hype and lets see if it can be monero rival.
However, i am confusing why there are many privacy coin that have similar fuction. Do we really need as many as like this?

I believe deep onion deserves to be the top, the developer is humble in employing a larger team, and if they say they have a problem they say it and move on, they have produced a working mobile wallet that is at the moment being thoroughly stress tested before releasing it for all, the developer has delivered successful features and now is about to leave it to the strong and growing community,
that will vote on what deeponion becomes, if the community votes on masternodes they will get masternodes, they want a crypto credit card they get a... you got the idea, eitherway deeponion is evolving into something more than a currency. The developer talks and updates the community everyday, tell me which coin has a developer that does that...

You are obviously a monero guy, and I understand you. But you are not anonymous with monero! Your ip is revealed to the network whenever you make a transaction!
Deeponion is definently not hyped at all. It's only a 30-40 M$ market cap coin, how could that be hyped? Verge is hyped!!

Regarding the airdrop of DeepOnion, no it will not fade out after. Sure some will sell their coins, but look at the features instead. This is where a coin will truly shine. I would not be amazed to see Deeponion on top 10 next year with all the features that the coin have. What do verge have? monero? nada

Monero is definitely the most solid coin in the list and will surely have a long life...i don't like Verge that much..the developers are not keeping their promises and in my opinion it is just a big pump.....Xspec looks promising but as a DeepOnion investor and believer i think Onion is the best choice with the highest potential to be expressed in the very next future...
The community is growing everyday more and more..the devs are vey active and have already released some unique features like DeepVault which is a storage for file hashes on the DeepOnion blockchain..and the upcoming Android wallet that will allow holders to stake 24/7 with their mobile phones...none of the coins that you have put int the list offer this kind of services...and this tells me clearly that my choice is the best one  ;)

and the upcoming Android wallet that will allow holders to stake 24/7 with their mobile phones

That's not entirely true. The mobile wallet will not be able to stake. But still, it's another step towards adoption.

The qt wallet runs like a charm and stakes 10% in the first year, first shops start accepting ONIONs. The dump after the end of the airdrop will come. But the end of the airdrop also marks the beginning of a new chapter - more exchanges will list the coin (pre-mine distributed), additional features are coming in (VoteCentral, DeepSend). This coin has a lot to offer in 2018 and beyond.

And it only sits at 40M market cap. It can easily go 10x (would not even go into top50 with 10x, based on today's CMC rankings).

It'll climb steadily, correct after the airdrop and then get back up to new heights.

SpectreCoin is way better Monero, I don't even know how people can compare both.
Kovri? Please, I know no anonymous network is perfect, but Tor has the biggest community and many years of development and improvement. Kovri is a good project, but it's new and not yet implemented. SpectreCoin, on the other hand, is the only coin with bridge obfuscation by default. The government can't even know that you are using Tor.

At the end, both projects are aiming for the same thing, but by using different techniques. The thing is that SpectreCoin has a ton of features that already works, just check their website.
Other than that, monero has e 5 billion market cap, the room for growth is way, way, way smaller than the 64 million from the SpectreCoin.

Conclusion: SpectreCoin is better than Monero and has a small marketcap, it is easily a 10~50x coin.

I am a big fan of DeepOnion. It might be an undervalued coin but it only proves that it has a large room for growth. First time I found DeepOnion, it is valued at .50, look at the price now? It's been growing positively ever since. My best profits are coming from DeepOnion, it is indeed one of the best coin/project I have ever been with. There lots of reasons to like deeponion, its great and solid community which continuously growing over time, airdrops, its generous rewards through contests, giveaways and other incentives and of course its key features which makes it secure and safe for transactions. New features like vote central and android wallet is launching very soon. This will allow your voices and opinions be heard by the dev team and access your onions through your phone.

Monero has a really strong brand and a better marketing team compared to other privacy coins. It’s got some really unique technology – like the ability to optionally make it transparent if you want.

Which privacy coin do you think will out last the rest in 2018? And why?

Monero (XMR)

ZCash (ZEC)

Navcoin (NAV)

PIVX (PIVX)

DeepOnion (ONION)

Verge (XVG)

Spectrecoin (XSPEC)

Sumokoin (SUMO)

I think I would pick Monero and DASH as the best and the most secure ones here. Meanwhile, I have recently met online curious video, where the guy (Crypto Oracle channel) shares his viewpoint on this topic:

DeepOnion is my top pick because the community currently behind it is very active and the development team is implementing many great new features.
Im also very interested in SpectreCoin and PIVX as well though. These three (along with Monero, which is already established) will have the most long term success.

My choice from this and why.
Hight price to join:
Monero old slow grandpa.
Dash - good choice, but if you wanna enter the DAO, it cost already hight.
Zcash - good ones, but their corporative style I don't like personally< developers are working well and do genius things, Respect.

Low price to join:
Deeponion - due to community coins distribution (airdrop) for me this is very promising and perspective project. The community really huge, preparing self for future great DAO.

I like DeepOnion the most.
I also like Zcash a lot and I also own some Monero, I think privacy coins in general will have a very bright future.
DeepOnion though is most undervalued right now.

They are proving they are a serious and legit project but still there are a lot of people who don't credit them the seriousness they deserve, which result in the current undervalued price.

They definitely are a already superiour, more honest  and more serious project than Verge so they wil overtake its market cap one day.

It must be DeepOnion , so what is the reason?
1)DeepOnion has a very powerful community , it’s very important . Because it can get lots of support and I have never see so strong community exclude BTC .
2)There is no ICO in DeepOnion . If you want to invent less money and get the largest benefit , it’s only the deepOnion ,join in us airdrop . There are 11 rounds left
3)The growth of deepOnion.

As some other in this thread, I also strongly believe in DeepOnion.

Deeponion is more secure than monero

Jup, and that's why my money is on DeepOnion.
A new TOR protocol has recently been implemented, and Obfs4 is being used to further enhance the privacy of the user.
Since it has a relatively low marketcap, it's fair to speculate, that DeepOnion will reach much bigger heights (im talking 100-200$ dollar range).

Nice list and of course I think that the "giants" Monero and ZCash will probably be around at the end of 2018 as well. At least one of them will for sure hang around, just look at BitCoin. A lot has happened in the last year but BitCoin is still the giant. A privacy "flippening" will take time.

Personally I will go for two or three of the small-mid caps that I think will grow big. Just looking back a year there were a lot of coins in the top 100 that nobody even remembers. But the promising low-mid caps have risen and are now part of the giants: Neo and Steem.

SpectreCoin is interesting but it was a small-cap in the beginning of 2017 and still haven't taken off. If it is because people haven't taken notice I just wonder what has been going on for the last year?

Of the list I am most bullish on DeepOnion and PivX. PivX because it used to be evry hyped up and popular but have somewhat sunken back. So why am I positive?! The technology behind the coin is sound, Masternodes is attractive and popularity goes up-and-down. It might be time for a PivX re-emergence.

DeepOnion I see several people have mentioned and I think then it pretty much answers itself. It is young, only six months but delivering very fast and the support is growing. It could be a tsunami that will wash over the privacy space and at the end of 2018 people might see this as one of the giants.

To recap: Monero and Zcash will still be around but maybe not much changed. DeepOnion and PivX might smash up into the top 5 privacy coins and if successful will have some very good gains.

1.Monero (XMR)
It’s completely untraceable and gives owners the power to have complete control over their data and their anonymity.
2.Navcoin (NAV)
Built on Bitcoin Core, it’s a low fee cryptocurrency with added features and upgrades. Many investors have Navcoin on their list of the best privacy coins of 2018…
3. ZCash (ZEC)
ZCash isn’t that popular yet in comparison to other privacy coins like Monero or Navcoin – that means there’s more growth opportunities for investors.
4.Verge (XVG)
Verge has open-source software – so followers of Verge can input into future decisions and developments of the technology.
5. PIVX (PIVX)
It has a strong following and community – with fans even creating art and advertising around the Pivx brand.
6. Spectrecoin (XSPEC)
Most privacy coins already have a huge market – but Spectrecoin aren’t in the same league – meaning huge potential for cryptocurrency investors.
7. Sumokoin (SUMO)
It’s a hard fork from Monero – one of the most popular privacy coins on the crypto market right now.

Some great coins in the list but i think Cloak Coin and Hush could be added as well. There are also some lower capped coins like Kore, Stealth Coin and DeepOnion which deserve some mentions as well. Operating in the shadows so to speak in comparison to the bigger privacy coins like Monero and ZCash but still implementing some great features. Look out for DeepOnion's DeepSend coming up in the next few months could be a game changer!

Not so sure about that. It was a big community that keeps getting bigger, sure. But powerful one cannot say. The development is very much centralized. Half the community is there for the airdrop, and the other half will never be able to explain to you what deeponion is all about. Bitcoin's community is still the strongest, but second place DO? How about Ethereum, How about Litecoin, in fact even Dogecoin has a bigger and more loyal community. Deeponion users still have a lot to learn about what it means to support their project.

It entirely depends on whether the privacy of these coins can be cracked. See

https://themerkle.com/blocksci-succesfully-traces-transactions-performed-with-dash-zcash-and-other-currencies/

Quote
Many cryptocurrency enthusiasts are not big fans of blockchain analysis firms. This additional scrutiny of cryptocurrency transactions could have major repercussions in the long run. It would not be a bad thing if the illegal activity associated with currencies such as Bitcoin were finally put to an end. Everyone knows Bitcoin provides no privacy or anonymity whatsoever, yet criminals still think they can get away with using this currency.

Blockchain analysis firms can easily track these suspicious transactions in real time. These efforts have been successful in aiding both law enforcement agencies and the IRS detect illicit activity involving Bitcoin. Whether we talk about crime proceeds or tax evasion, Bitcoin is not the tool for those things whatsoever. In fact, it only makes it easier for specialized firms to deanonymize users over time.

Criminals flocking to other cryptocurrencies may want to think twice about those as well. As BlockSci’s whitepaper explains, there are very few cryptocurrencies which have eluded their scrutiny. One of those currencies is Monero, as it provides a degree of anonymity and obfuscation the group has not been able to crack just yet. Monero is officially labeled an “unsupported blockchain due to it not following the one-input one-output paradigm.” That is an interesting point which shows how Monero may be the only cryptocurrency providing full privacy and anonymity right now.

BlockSci describes how they successfully traced both ZCash and Dash transactions from beginning to end, regardless of features like PrivateSend. This is anything but good news for people who value these currencies for their privacy or anonymity features.

If there is one big lesson to take away from BlockSci, it is how blockchain analysis will become more prominent in the years to come. Anyone who demands more privacy and/or anonymity in cryptocurrency will have to carefully read this paper and draw their own conclusions. The team has made a lot of progress pointing to how privacy is not necessarily present in the currencies people may like. While the main focus is on Bitcoin, Litecoin, Namecoin, and Dash, the team is also looking into Dash, Bitcoin Cash, and a few other cryptocurrencies right now.

Basically they have cracked them all apart from Monero.

DeepOnion (ONION)

Sumokoin (SUMO)

Quite a selection you've got there, so let me start explaining what is my top pick and why.

First off, I like coins with not enourmous supply, so that will rule out Verge (not to mention they are not doing anything on deadlines), it will also rule out Sumokoin as it's supply is 88M, and few more, but they are decent by supply they are Spectrecoin and PIVX. So that leaves us with XMR, ZEC and ONION.

They all support TOR, but DeepOnion is only one that just added OBFS4 & MEEK and is about to implement Zero knowledge as per roadmap. With that and by adding DeepSend feature (more details in white paper) it will be a leader by techology implemented.

It is true Monero and Zcash both are already established coins with huge market cap already, while DeepOnion is still undervalued and on the rise.

For me, as an average user entry point for Monero and ZCash (although both are fairly good) is just above my range, but DeepOnion project is among the best projects and it's highly undervalued toe to toe with these 2 giants and I'm pretty sure it's right investment.

I can write even more, but I'll stop for now. :) Without any further ado and because all of the reasons above, my top pick vote with all details goes to DeepOnion.

DeepOnion. The community is enormous, the tech is there, the developers are always at work and haven't missed a deadline yet, the supply is low, and best of all, the market cap is LOW. This coin has a lot of potential for the long term hold.

I have seen this one a lot too but I just have to agree, my pick is DeepOnion. This project is just very different from all the other privacy coins, first off you have the features that many other privacy coins just do not have. The system is ACTUALLY TOR integrated unlike many other privacy coins that say they are but actually are not. Then you have the splendid community that really wants the project to succeed and  does many things to try to achieve that. Lastly the developers are doing a great job with actually letting know what has been done, what still has to be done and what will be coming later on.

Overall quality project IMO.

I have been just spent a short while to compare the marketcap, supply quantity, whitepaper and price in between some well-known privacy coins and then join the free airdrop as my purpose is to find a higher profit investment. ::)

DeepOnion is the definitely the best privacy coin out there. For a coin to be successful it needs a good development team and community. DeepOnion has it all. It has great tech such as DeepVault. It has upcoming releases like Votecentral, DeepSend, mobile wallets and DeepVault online. It is integrated to TOR and the public key obfuscation protocol OBFS4 will let it be used by those in TOR blocked countries as well. It has a very low marketcap compared to Monero and Verge, so very high growth potential too.

I invested in 4 of the 7 coins above:
Monero, NavCoin, DeepOnion and Verge.
Moreover I invested some money (more than 1000€ each) also in Dash, ZenCash and Shield.

Before to invest important amounts of bucks I have read all of the whitepapers and I checked the community portals (where they exists).

I can say for sure that DeepOnion has the best active, useful and interesting community between all of the projects above.
Moreover the developers behind this project are really working hard. It is the only one coin who is using the Tor network together the OBFS4 Protocol.

Also ZenCash has a nice community forum, cool technology and also a limited amount of total coins, like DeepOnion.

So, in my opinion, the Privacy issue will be one of the TOP trend for the 2018 and 2019 years coming, all of the projects above are interesting,
but DeepOnion (ONION) and ZenCash (ZEN) deserve much attention and investments.

Last but not least, DeepOnion is still in the Airdrop phase, and still hidden at the 2nd or 3rd page of CoinMarketCap, so it should burst, I mean,
increase the price very soon.

What do you think guys about my thoughs?  ;)

For me it has to be DeepOnion,

They have a great development team, who are super active on their own forums and can answer any queries you have in no time at all, you can also send them direct messages which is a nice touch.

The new TOR upgrade now allows even China to use the coin, very few privacy coins are on the newest Tor upgrade.

They also have DeepVault, which secures images and files from tampering, a great benefit for contracts and other important documents, and they plan to release even more updates in the coming months.

I think they have all huge potential in the future, espacially when more countrys are starting to ban or regulate cryptos. So im not the technic nerd, so i cant say which one of them is the most secury and anonymous. But what i read and learn, i think the Devs of deeponion and spectrecoin has a very good knowhow and the coins are in a position which allow them to get used in china or other countrys which cryptos are already banned.

I think Monero is right now the best privacy coin on the market, it's well known by all and it has a strong community and a very active dev team behind, but if you're looking for something with a potential 10x gain or even more in 2018 I'll definitely suggest you to look into DeepOnion (as my avatar and my signatures shows :)).
I think for an investor is really interesting. It's a privacy coin with a PoW/poS combination for mining, anonymity has been guaranteed through the Tor Network, and dev team has recently added OBFS4 and MEEK protocols to guarantees access for country like China, Turkey etc where Tor has been hidden, but there is far more than that. They have 10 weekly airdrops left that can safe your investment in the short period if the market takes another correction and there's a clear roap map for 2018 that includes VoteCentral, Android Wallet and a further level of anonymity (DeepSend).

Monero has been up and until now the king, so it's their crown to lose.
If we are talking biggest gainer, I don't think there is any doubt that DeepOnion will breakthrough, particularly after the airdrop has concluded and has been listed on a big exchange.
If the question is regarding technology or anonymity, most from the list provide it, but in different ways and at this stage it is difficult to have a definitive answer, especially as they are constantly progressing further into greater anonymity.

Monero is the king and will continue to be so. DeepOnion seems to be mostly hype to me and I think it will die out after the airdrop. Verge developers seem to be a little bit unreliable, they finally released wraith which is a big step forward but it took a long time.

It has not started yet. As far as I know it's just an unofficial rebrand of zcash, while zcash will be still alive afterwards.

Just my 2 cents on this matter:

My 2 biggest privacy coin HODLings / my top picks:
1: Monero (as an early investor and still HODLing)
2: DeepOnion (relatively new coin with the potential to compete with monero)

As an early investor, Monero is great. I already made some great profits and still HODLing more than 75% of my coins.
If you have to buy in now, DeepOnion has al lot more room to grow and make potentially huge profits. It can easily do x10 in 2018.

Next to the above I HODL several other privacy coins, but just made smaller investments there.
I think privacy coins have a bright future ahead.

If any coin can really compete, period, it has to be fast. Verge and Navcoin are hands down the fastest on the list. Verge is truly decentralized and working on ring signatures and nearing the end of its emission curve, while Navcoin is more centralized, staked, and infinite emission.

TOR have some not good features. That's why I don't see on Deep Onion as investment. Now Monero is the best for privacy. Or you can use some mixers for own transactions in BTC and ETH. It's quite enough

From low marketcaps I believe in DeepOnion and XSPEC.

I've lost confidence in privacy coins at all. I still have some investmens in them though. A very important thing to consider about privacy coins is government regulations. It looks like in 2018 officials from all over the world will investigate crypto. And the thing that govermnet hates the most is anonimity. I will expect more governmental FUD focusing on those privacy coins. More FUD -> fewer new investors -> less gains. But this is only my opinion and as always check things and make decisions yourself.

I think my choice would have to be DeepOnion, the Dev team are very active, just this week we have seen Stealth addresses added. With DeepVault already released, a recent wallet upgrade that added with OBFS4 and MEEK and DeepSend due out soon there is clearly a lot of work going on there.

I think the price of DeepOnion also adds to it's appeal, its a very small market cap, and IMHO is undervalued at present.

As revolutionary as Bitcoin is, it has one major flaw: privacy. Since the blockchain ledger is public, all transactions by all addresses are completely exposed.
Here are some top privacy coin of 2018 in ascending order:
Verge (XVG)
PIVX (PIVX)
Zcash (ZEC)
Monero (XMR)
DASH (DASH)

I think Monero is the most established privacy-oriented cryptocurrency in the dark web and most respected among crypto experts but my favorite pick is DeepOnion. DeepOnion native integration into the TOR network might seem to be not that much but consider the latest updates with Obsf4 and Meek protocols allowing people living in countries where TOR is forbidden and blocked to bypass restrictions. It's a very important first layer of privacy in my opinion. DeepOnion is going to release stealth addresses (or wallets) very soon and add plenty of other privacy layers. It has a low market cap, low total supply, active dev, truly awesome community, a real vision and a clear roadmap with more to come than merely privacy features (democratic voting system, smart contracts).

I advise Zcash, given the undeniable advantages of Zcash over Bitcoin, in particular mathematically guaranteed anonymity, you can be sure that the coin will not just disappear like this. And its large-scale speculative growth after adding to the stock exchange tells us that it will not be difficult for it to match the cost with bitcoin in the long term. And even surpass it.

DeepOnion in my opinion. Reasons why being a huge supportive community, a great transparent team, announcements almost daily, new features always being worked on and delivered, upgrades to maintain the best specs and it’s a low market cap with massive amounts of room to grow and be a top leader of 2018.

Yes Zcash is superior to bitcoin but it is not superior to other privacy coins, it is also quite pricey so not great for investing. Anyway privacy coins and cross-blockchain solutions will be big this year

Monero is the "Bitcoin" of the privacy coins world and its position at the top will be unshaken for a long time as the first mover advantage is priceless.

But we will see multiple privacy coins moving up to close the gap.. XSpec is the one that will shoot to Number 2 place once they implement Stealth Staking. This will be the most disruptive innovation in the privacy coins industry. Stealth Staking will bring additional profits to those holding privacy coins without revealing their identities.

For stealth staking, XSpec will have first mover advantages and will become the default leader in stealth staking.

Verge strives to offer anonymity and decentralization at the highest level imaginable, as the original vision of Satoshi was when he introduced bitcoin.
It has features/benefits which make it truly anonymous.

About current leaders:
Monero is good, but it's not completely anonymous, you'll need to get hands dirty to achieve high-level anonymity. Also, as a top coin, it may be overvalued currently.
ZCash - sorry, but it's a shit, with their 20% founders rewards. I used to like ZClassic, but the last announcements about BitcoinPrivate disappointed me, now I think this it's just another money grabber.
Verge may be good, but there is no doubt that it's currently overvalued, especially after McAfee's "coin of a day".

I choose DeepOnion for myself. It's young (so likely underrated currently), It's developing fast and doing much better than other new coins in this category, also DeepOnion has much more features, so it's not just a currency.

As a new investor, I'd stay away from Monero, very high marketcap and I really doubt its privacy level.
For Verge, since the scandal with McAfee, I'm staying away from it.
PIVX could be a great choice but I'm more bullish on DeepOnion, low marketcap, unique technologies (recent OBFS4 integration), DeepVault and much more to come. In addition to the ongoing Airdrop as 7 rounds are left.

First go my bet: XMR, SUMO and $ONION. All three have a good implementation, roadmap and community support. But unfortunately I didn't get early into the XMR train and I've invested more into the two others.

As of DeepOnion, I'm a little intrigued about your assert, because DeepOnion uses Tor to provide anonymity by hiding the IP addresses and, with the forthcoming DeepSend, it will make transactions untraceable with a mixture of techniques; so I don't understand why you consider that it doesn't relate to anonimity and privacy.

To me all of them are very good investments, being DeepOnion the most promising of all three.

It's true that I dislike it more because of the McAfee's affair, but it's not privacy coin which I'd like to keep.

I think Monero has probably done enough to cement itself as a top privacy coin in its own right.
Wish I had got in on PIVX early simply to run a masternode and it not cost a fortune to set up, the returns arn't massive now but if you had got on it early then you would be laughing.
DeepOnion, once airdrop is finished in a couple months has a lot of potential, there's plenty of development going on with it and the use of Tor, OBFS4 and MEEK are great privacy additions.

Monero (XMR)

ZCash (ZEC)

Navcoin (NAV)

PIVX (PIVX)

DeepOnion (ONION)

Verge (XVG)

Spectrecoin (XSPEC)

Sumokoin (SUMO)

Pretty good list there Thrasher. I started with Monero as its was fairly well known and made some money off it. Then as I learnt more, I hungered for a better project. I stumbled upon DeepOnion as I have always been a keen supporter of the Tor project. I checked out the whitepaper and saw how DeepOnion is fixing serious, real world problems. Many people face internet censorship in their countries and with Meek and OBFS4, DeepOnion will still work for them and help them remain anonymous. Soon stealth addreseses will arrive and take the project to another level.

Zencash: Zeroknowledge + big community + full encrypted

Sumokoin: very good fork of monero with good improvements and excellent team

Cloakcoin: POS full encrypted, innovative (enigma + cloakshield) with a good community and a very good team

It is impossible to kill an anonymous cryptocurrency by a government, especially a full privacy one like DeepOnion or Spectre. (Onion is TOR based with obfuscation protocol OBFS4 , Meek and Stealth Addresses). If any government declares to kill a privacy coin it will only increase its price. And there will always be a way to trade them. Selling because governmental FUD might be the biggest mistake people make.

For the simple fact that they have been on time with the roadmap and apart from being on time they have included features that weren’t even planned all while still staying on deadline.

For best overall coin, I think Monero has proven itself, but it is priced at the “best in class” premium.

For coin with the most growth potential, I’ll go with Deep Onion.  It seems that the airdrop is holding it back, due to fear of dumping and major exchanges are avoiding it until the airdrop is done.

I think it will have rough ride as the airdrop closes, but find it’s footing.  Despite what people say, it has good development.  Coin Gecko ranks DO’s development #42, and community #63, out of the 1400+ coins they rank.

ZenCash (ZEN) - it's had such a solid growth last year and has managed to hold onto a lot of the gain this so far. Future of development looks promising.
DeepOnion (ONIONS) - needs no introduction due to such a huge community, the tor-integrated privacy coin with stealth addresses and mobile wallet coming very soon
PIVX (PIVX) - it's always been a strong contender to ZEC and XMR's domination in the crypto-privacy scene and has a lot to offer as a community. A good darkhorse.

My thoughts are in the line with yours mate.
For main stream privacy coin, my vote would go to Monero, but you cant expect some crazy returns with his marketcap of almost 5B$.
For smaller privacy coins, Deep Onion all the way, when the airdrop is finished and it gets listed on more exchanges, than we will see real price movement!
Apart from that, development is really dynamic these days - stealth addresses, android mobile wallet and vote central will be released in upcoming weeks, prolly before airdrop is finished.
Sidenote - author of this text should include more privacy coins in the list, some established coins are missing (e.g. ZEN, Komodo etc.)

I was a skeptic at the beginning but in time I realized that DeepOnion is a project with bright future. In short time they achieved a lot (Wallet with fast transactions, TOR, Obfs4, Meek...) and with more features to come DeepOnion will be the top privacy coin in 2018.

I did my own research on privacy altcoins a while ago, DeepOnion seems to be doing everything right. I'm not saying that the rest of the privacy altcoins are a failure, but they are missing features that are already incorporated into DeepOnion which is a huge advantage.

True anonymity using an established anonymity platform Tor, decentralization without master nodes, and private transactions, these three are key factors in protecting both the user and the DeepOnion blockchain. Open-Source development and fast transactions are extra points, along with fair coin distribution (airdrop/PoW/PoS) and a very supporting community, DeepOnion is growing into a beast that will be difficult to take down. After 8 months, I have yet to encounter a negative argument about the project.

PS: I think I spotted a scam coin on your list, check your facts.

In terms of security and privacy we can ensure that Deeponion leads the market, if we observe that it works under the TOR network, a protocol that consolidates transactions that are safe and anonymous, as well as innovative technologies such as deepsend, to hide transactions, avoiding a possible tracking and later Stealth address, with which this platform is consolidated among one of the main ones to host our currencies.

vote for #DeepOnion. with the privacy is freedom << my fav quote found from whitepaper.

look at this topic, read all of comment :)) https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2057229
and i think zcash and verge will be the best choice

Till now Monero is dominating in privacy coins. But I think DeepOnion ($ONION) will replace at the end of 2018. DeepOnion is ensuring more privacy and anonymity. Continuous update with some existing features like TOR to hide ip, Meek for restricted countries, OBSF4, upcoming stealth address, DeepSend. Those will make $ONION to be privacy coin dominator at the last of 2018. Dev team is working hard to make it more more anonymous coin. So, I think it will dominate the privacy coins in near future.

As many have said it before, currently Monero/XMR is king when it comes to privacy coins. There are lots of new coins coming to take the throne though.
My vote is also on DeepOnion as with the soon to be released stealth addresses Monero will have no advantage over DeepOnion as they are not TOR integrated either, so your IP address is still visible on the network even if you use stealth addresses. There are many other upcoming coins as well like zcash and verge and so on, time will tell how the "top list" will look like in a year :) I am betting on DeepOnion that is for sure :)

I believe this is the year of DeepOnion, in my opinion it has great potential for growth and so it is my main choice.
I also like the Monero, after all, it occupies the current position of main privacy coin.

Competition in the privacy/anon is good for the quality. DO is a good competetor to be in the top 5.
Some probably can’t stay up :-)

For some reason, I did not find Dash in the list of coins. This is my favorite one among anonymous coins. Dash has a strong team, circumspect marketing, a steady growth of the token. Their new Dash Evolution (https://www.dash.org/evolution/) platform should revolutionize the Internet payment market.
So, dash is not only anonymous, but also reliable and convenient coin.

Whenever I make a list of top privacy coins DeepOnion is always first. I can hardly wait for the new updates to be rolled out and after developers finish testing stealth addresses (I think they are going to go with the name Deep Protocol) DeepOnion will leave its competition behind to eat some $ONION dust...

Ofcourse it's Monero (XMR) - top of the top 8)
Because it is strong oldschool coin with long history and strong community. Because it is most decentralised black blockchain. Because it is true realization ideas of cryptoanarchism  ::)

Which privacy coin do you think will out last the rest in 2018? And why?

Monero (XMR)

ZCash (ZEC)

Navcoin (NAV)

PIVX (PIVX)

DeepOnion (ONION)

Verge (XVG)

Spectrecoin (XSPEC)

Sumokoin (SUMO)

I think the coin that will outlast every other coin in terms of privacy will be monero XMR. Monero is the most anonymous coin that exists in the crypto market. Monero has been in the market since 2014. Monero has rose upward the market slowly in the mean time to gain position in the top 10 coins in the market. Monero is a highly decentralized platform . I think deep onion is also a great coin with high privacy level though I haven’t done much research about deep onion so don’t exactly know much about it. So in my opinion XMR is good and has great potential.

I am with the undervalued privacy coin like deeponion. It is one of the best buys today with its steady progress, great supportive community and awesome roadmap with tons of upcoming tasty new features that will surely bring you and your investment to the next level of privacy and anonymity. The fundamental and technical analysis of this coin shows a lot of potential for massive growth. It's on its early staged of development and yet to see more updates already. This coin indeed is worth investing and will outlast because of the overwhelming dedication of its community.

Hello  :) I think that the best private currency is DeepOnion. This coin has very low fees, fast transfers, it guarantees anonymity using the Tor network. It has a very active community and the development team is currently on a par with the roadmap and they often release updates and news (like the mobile wallet for Android). And actually there is a very good Airdrop.  ;D

Title: Re: Top Privacy Coin of 2018?

That is some strong contenders out there.
Nav coin & DeepOnion both have great room for growth.
DeepOnion is down 90% from its ATH, mainly because of bear market & airdrop phase. People who do now know any value of the tech behind this coin dump them after every airdrop. Once the airdrops are done this coin has only way up. With the coin supply as low as 19 million and a great development team behind it, this coin cannot loose.
Once the airdrops are done, there would be vigorous marketing. Then DeepOnion will go up to the place it deserves.
Buy it now and thank me later.

I agree with the last three posts, DeepOnion is one of my favorites, along with PIVx. I think that both projects will be on the top in this year. The first one is based on true anonymity (TOR + Stealth Addresses + DeepSend), the second one has masterndes and Zero Protocol. As far as I can, I invents on those two.

Of course, there many other good projects and I'm sure that 2018 will be the year of privacy coins, but the above mentioned  will go very far.

Navcoin (NAV), PIVX (PIVX), DeepOnion (ONION), , Spectrecoin (XSPEC), Sumokoin (SUMO) - all seem like trash coins to me  ;D
Have you ever seen darknet accepting Sumokoin  :P ?
Verge (XVG) is just a hyped coin due to McAfee twitter advertising. Nothing serious also.
I presume, it's all about Monero and Zcash. There are also Bitcoin Diamond (BCD) and Bitcoin Private (BTCP), but let us see how they survive 2018.

Deeponion has big hype and lets see if it can be monero's direct rival.
However, i am confusing why there are many privacy coin that have similar functions.

PIVX is another good one

Obviously you see the avatar and signature... but I'm a privacy coin enthusiast all around.

I hold a few monero, dash, a bunch of pivix. I recently purchased some NAVCoin and some XSPec, but i have BAGS of DeepOnion. Not because of the airdrop, I havent been a participant from the beginning. I have purchased near 7000$ of DeepOnion personally.

I believe privacy coins are the future of cyrptocurrency altogether. Each coin has certain features that keep it private one way or another, but the reason I have my biggest invest into deeponion isnt only the software and technology, but the dev team is consistentantly and constantly meeting and exceeding goals with releases unexpected with even more privacy features.  Like I mentioned, each coin has its on features..which is why I have holdings in all of them but DeepOnions privacy features go far and beyond the rest in my opinion.

They consistently make sure they always have the latest TOR modules in their wallet, have OBSF4 & Meek plug in capabilities... 100% stealth address will be fully functional soon thus hiding not only the users IP through many layers of protection, hiding the sender and receivers address altogether and the amount sent.

It also has DeepVault to verify files indisputably over the blockchain, will have DeepSend soon.. smart contracts... and to add ontop of the privacy eventually zerocoin protocol.

VoteCentral will be active soon where the community and its biggest hodlers and active members will get to vote in the direction of the coin and where it will be taken from here on out.

The community it self is close to 14,000 members strong... many many knowledgeable users who can help with any aspect of crypto currency.

Again, I've got my holdings of all privacy coins.... tons of nav, xspec, zerocoin, a bit of dash and monero... I sold out all my XVG for some NICE profit when I bought 20,000 of it at 50 sat and sold around 2000 sat after McAffee tweet, but holding all the rest... specifically tons of deeponion.

The price is an amazingly low 1.57$ still but theres no way it will stay that low for much longer.

DeepOnion would be my choice, and for a very simple reason: airdrop has finished, all who wanted to dump have done it by now, price is stable and capitalization is still very little. A good candidate for a 100X performance this year, if market conditions will allow that.

DeepOnion looks like a very good privacy coin. Also monero too and they seem to offer complete anonymity with the usage of their coins and I will not be surprised to see people start diverting and using these coins because now with some coins, anonymity is not something that can be achieved. People sometimes do not want to leave an online footprint so they will be using more of these.

I also believe in Monero. because I see that Monero is a coin that is quite expensive compared to other Altcoin. so that with this can get a big advantage. and currently many enthusiasts for coins that have a high price. so the more will want to have Monero, this proves that Monero better than others.

Deepionion in my thought. The reason why being a great support community, great transparent team, almost daily announcements, new features are always worked on and delivered, upgraded to maintain the best specs and that is a low market capitalization with a huge amount of space to grow and become the top leader of 2018. This still young (most likely underestimated at the moment). It's growing rapidly and doing much better than the other new coins in this category, as well as DeepOnion has more features, so it's not just currency. This coin has a very low cost, fast transfer, this ensures anonymity using

I am really grateful to Zcash and Pivx projects. I invested $ 2,000 at last year in these 2 coins and I still hold :D
Here are 2 altcoin with very good security technology, you were quite smart when choosing 2 altcoin for this investment because current trend of good security coin is getting support from many investors. You can keep these two coins until the end of the year because that is when the market will grow very well.

Which privacy coin do you think will out last the rest in 2018? And why?

Monero (XMR)

ZCash (ZEC)

Navcoin (NAV)

PIVX (PIVX)

DeepOnion (ONION)

Verge (XVG)

Spectrecoin (XSPEC)

Sumokoin (SUMO)

Good question. I think that Zcash is now the leader of this list. Although it used to be that Monero is the leader in anonymous payment for smuggling and weapons

Wish i loaded up on Monero last year
Monero was launched in 2014, and since then it has grown to become one of the most stable and secure privacy coins released to date.Monero has a few unique features that helped it grow to become the top contender in the privacy coin market.

Check out Komodo $KMD, it is the best coin now. Also check out the coins/tokens under its platform: PirateChain $ARRR, it is a very good privacy coin. You can find details of what makes them the best by checking out their ANN threads.
