When I was last time in Zoo some time ago (before that I was in Zoo when I was a little boy), I felt the great pity for the beasts and animals. If I could, I would cancel this terrible attraction around the world.
What do you thing about it?

I think zoos should remain. Some animals are in the Red Book and only zoos safe them from death and poachers.

I think that it is horrible. Animals should live on the nature, not in the cages  >:(

To zoos I'm relatively good, good entertainment and even cognitive institution so to speak. You can go with children, and most interesting.

its a double edged sword to me.
- keeping animals in cages should not be allowed at all and i dont like zoo anymore
- keeping threatened animals in big areas while protecting them should be allowed though

Zoos are good when in comes to saving the species cause some of them are in the red note and its endangered so we need to keep them in the safe place, also good for entertaining everytime i go to zoo i am always amazed of those animals.

ZOOS, Contrary to what many people believe, often cause great suffering and stress to the captive animals. Animals in zoos are caged for life and deprived of the opportunity to develop and fulfill the full range of their interests and needs.

Too all those saying release the animals currently in zoos to the wild. These animals are by no means domesticated, but they are no longer truly wild animals.. many would now not survive in the wild, at least not for very long.

I think it's a complex issue, and it depends on the zoo.

Zoos that keep the animals in poor conditions and are all about making money - these are obviously bad and should be closed, and if necessary legal action taken against the owners.

But they're not all like that - some are more like conservation parks, where the animals have generally been rescued from poor quality zoos or domestic ownership and are now treated very well and in a professional manner. These places are also good for helping to provide a safe space for endangered animals, and take part in important rebreeding and rewilding programmes.

Now many zoos are animals loose, not in captivity ..
Zoos there are also benefits for endangered species, can be protected from hunting and human zoos can also be a breeding ground for animals.

Zoos help preserve some species of animals and can not be abandoned.

Yes, it is true that animals weren't born to live in cages. But it's also true that if they were released into the wild again, they could be hunted and killed by unscrupulous hunters. Don't know what's the best option...very sad for those animals

Unlike those who believe that zoos teach their visitors to respect animals, I think that what they teach is to perpetuate the idea that animals can be locked up for our own benefit; offering only a little information about their diet, the different existing species and their natural environment. But ... I am in favor of those zoos oriented to the development of conservation and reintroduction programs for the native species of their zone. Zoos that can shelter, care for and recover wild animals injured or coming from a confiscation or a situation of abuse, in addition to those programs that can protect almost extinct species and help them to stop being it.

Zoos should not be for the benefit of human entertainment, but for the protection of the species that accompany us on the planet.

If I do not have a zoo, maybe my whole life will not look at the real lion

When done correctly, I think zoos are great.

They help people fall in love with animals and make a personal connection with many animals that are going extinct. If we want to save the animals from going extinct, or get more people involved in protecting what is left of their natural habitats, then we need to start by getting people to care about these animals. And zoos are a great way for people to see and learn about these animals. This is what the crocodile hunter's motto was, and I think it is great.

Depends on the Zoo. A lot I have seen are poorly kept for and very small which is cruel. Others like the Los Angeles Zoo are amazing and are of great educational value.

I personally enjoyed my trip to the zoo back then. For me I think there is nothing wrong with that as the animals are well taken care of and given quite a large area to live about. The zoo I went to in tried as much as possible to mimic the exact environment the animals wild environment.
I also personally think that having a zoo makes us appreciate and even learn more from the animals in there, so I think there is nothing wrong with that.

Zoos are great specially when it comes to educating the kids about taking care of the animals. For adults, they are good place to enjoy with your special one.

I feel for these animals' safety from poachers who are interested on their body parts or them as a whole.
But they should not be living in a cage.
They must be living in their natural habitat and roam free.
It'll be better to die and enjoy your life to the fullest than die living in a small artificial habitat.

I feel strongly that animals should be free to roam in their own habitat.  I also feel that we need to protect the last breed able pair before they become extinct.  I lived within 15 miles of a major zoo and we always had season passes.  I found that the animals in this zoo were very well cared for and most likely would not be alive if left in their home land.

About zoos it reminds me of my childhood days being a child i love to see different kinds of animals

It's a really tough one, because I don't like to see the animals have to live in captivity, but, at the same time, zoos have always been my favorite attractions to go to.  I love to see the animals up close, you can learn so much. 

It's brutality, the animals should live in the open country, they should have their freedom.

Well in some way, I feel bad for the animals being kept in captivity, but also on the other hand, it's good for them at least there are people who are taking care of them. It's also a good learning opportunity especially for the kids so that they will not depend on just books or the web, but seeing those animals in real life give them justice and an experience they will never forget.

I like to see animals that are from different places but I pity them because they are not in the wild and natural habitat where they can roam around all day long and just playing a part in the food chain.

Zoo can be a good way to introduce animals to kids. But for me, animals being locked up and removed from their natural habitat si rude. If we really want to be with animals we should go to their place. We should not get them and place in a convenient place for human but a disaster for the animals.

This was the essay topic on a language test I had previous year  ;D there are 2 points, one is about children learning about the planet and the other is a vote for animal-friendly lifestyle.

I does not think this is a terrible attractions. Although the animals in the zoo does not have the freedom, but some of the animals inside the zoo might like this type of life where they are being well fed and free ob being prey by their predators. I think zoos should be there for educational purposes and not solely for business. Yea. You are right. Though it is true that they really are pitiful for not having freedom but this is the only way for some animals that are going into extinction to be preserved. The world is now very advance in technology and they can do the best way to propagate species that are near extinction. And also not everyone can go to the jungle or forest to have the opportunity to see different kind of animals so thanks to zoos that from there there are given the opportunity to see and know different kinds of animals that they never seen in their entire life.

First of all zoos are keeping animals safe. They're always taking care of the animals as if they were a person and sometimes more than a person. Secondly zoos shares all they know about the animals that we all should know and lastly i just enjoy seeing different animals specially when they're cute and adorable.

In my opinion, zoo establishment is to be cancelled because it hurts the nature. If someone should want to save animals from the death or total extinction they would rather arrange treatment and shelters for crippled, sick or orphan ones. I wish such shelters had been instead of zoos.

Some Zoos are definitely good, and others are the way different. If it's like a simulation of the natural environment, then it's fine for animals that are in danger. But the classical zoos with cages and bad living conditions looks sad.

Depends on the zoo. Some are spacious and lets the animals roam free, these are useful to help us learn more about them. However, the ones that are small - especially in poorer countries need to shut down. They are just being imprisoned for profit :(

Zoos vary in quality and a "bad" zoo is a terrible thing.

But the "good" zoos, those which are modern and have both education and conservation as their core missions (think the San Diego zoo and wild animal park, which changed the entire concept of what a zoo should be) are not prisons but lifeboats, places where many species of animal are preserved when human expansion has or is in the process of destroying their habitats.

honestly the last time i was in a zoo ( like 2 years ago) all the animals seemed happy and well taken care of. well now that i think about it, 1 type of monkeys seemed restless, they were walking around in circles as a pack and looked like they wanna get the f out of there. so it seems like most of them are fine but maybe we shouldnt hold that type of monkeys captive.

I am involved in zoo gardens. You take the animal into the cage to come and watch. It's ridiculous and primitive. This is why I do not even feed the bird in the cage. It seems ridiculous to me that logic. They can not survive if you leave it to nature. When the world has lived since they existed, they will not be able to end this time?

I think it's a very bad thing because they are moved from their natural habitat and every creature is made to live freely not in a cage, there's a zoo where I live and I see lions and other animals that are made to live in jungle living in a cage in a place where it's 10°/15°C whereas they are meant to be living under tropical temperature.

I think it depends on the zoo, but as a whole, I honestly do not think zoos are bad things. I used to feel horrible about going to zoos for the same reasons you've mentioned, but I've since read some literature that has helped me put things into perspective. I think many of us often have the perception that zoos are really for the benefit of humans, but I honestly think this couldn't be further from the truth. Ultimately, I think that zoos do in fact benefit animals greatly. But again, it depends on the zoo. I'm sure some aren't properly maintained, but as a whole, I think they are, at least in the VN. That's just my opinion, of course.

Zoo's must be remain so that people in the city do not need to travel in far places to see the animals. Also the management of the zoo's make sure the animals are treated well.

The Zoo is a creepy place. humans are selfish for their own sake, they take the right of animals to live freely. I am wondering why many countries legalize zoos

I like to go to the zoo because there we see many animals which we are not able to see in our daily lives like cats and dogs we see normally in our daily life but if you want to see precious animals which are not available in your country zoo is the best place to visit.

The worst zoos are the ones where they stick the animals in small enclosures and force them to perform for rewards under unnatural lighting and in cramped and often unhygienic places. I think they're called offices  ;D

On a serious note, there are plenty of great zoos where animals are given the best care possible and many of them undertake vital research and conservation work to try and preserve species in the wild.

It's a great place to visit with your kids and learn about animals and their behaviour. I remember I use to visit there when I was a little kid and I feel so excited about it then.

I do not support zoos.

Zoo is park of animals. There are many kinds of animal stay there. when I went first, then I surprised. I never see Tiger & lion live before that time. I was very happy. Then went to front of monkey. One by one I saw every animals. I was glad to see all of animals.

It's a really tought nut to crack. But i think overall it takes some animals to not become extinct, so thats a real plus

I treat zoos well if I go there and animals do not cause pity. When I see that animals are not hungry, they are neat, well-groomed, they have a clean and important thing about them. That is only for the benefit of animals. Many species and this is what saves from extinction.

While I enjoy going to the zoos myself, I think it is sad to see those animals in cages. This is why I started enjoying virtual zoos more now. Well no hard feeling, i like some animals in the zoos locked up ! The only bad thing is that they are not given enough food, in my country i see the elephants are so skinny not enough food. The amount the zoo earns each day is believe it's enough as it's a old and very popular one and attracts many tourists too. Simply hate reptiles but love the birds, alongside the winter birds that visits during winter.
Keeping animals locked up in zoos is not as good i believe but the endangered species are saved from poachers and hunters. National zoos are better as they are almost as large as wildlife and maintains the ecosystem.

I think zoos are hell for some animals, they are contained in a small space, they lose their instincts and depends on human. They should be in the wild where they are free.

My attitude depends on the zoo itself. There are places where animals are kept in good conditions. No complaints against them. Animals are looked after, provided with adequate nutrition and they freely walk around the territory. And there are zoos where the conditions of keeping animals are certainly unacceptable.

Many zoos attempt to justify their existence by claiming that they actively engage in things like breeding of endangered species and conservation. But when you start looking at the numbers, this doesn’t seem to be the case. It all depends on how you treat those animals, sometimes you need to protect endangered species, but as a rule  of thumb i'd avoid putting animals in zoos just for people's amusement

I think it is a tough question. There are rehabilitation centers where are very beneficial for the animals. Also there are a lot of animals born in zoos and they would not be able to survive in the wild. It is a double edge sword, as it is hard to see them caged, but the quality of each zoo is different. I dont think we can group all zoos as bad and the that all animal should be released, some wont be able to survive on their own.

Zoo, has a nice ring to it but, never in my life Ive been on one. When I was a kid I listened to my friends how they had fun when they went with theyre families. I was so jealous that I had to cry to my parents to bring me that day but due to some reasons we can't go. And until now, a graduated college student, I still missed my chance to go to it.

I think zoos can be great if they're done properly. The animals need to be treated well. I know that some zoos treat animals poorly. It's hard to control, but I'm sure there are zoos with all the best intentions. A lot of zoos work to save animals that would otherwise die. It also gives us an opportunity to see animals up close and personal. It gives me more respect for them. An even better option is a rehabilitation center. I visited one in Namibia. It was so cool. They had lions and leopards and cheetah and monkeys. They were all living there temporarily, so they could be rehabilitated and released back into the wild in another place.

I think there are some zoos that are just out for profit, but I don't think that's the most common thing. I feel like a lot of zoos really want to help the animals. A lot of the animals in zoos would not be able to adapt to the wild, if they were released. What would the alternative be, if you closed the zoos? To just kill those animals? I realized this when I was at the zoo one time and I was looking at this one gorilla. He was leaning against the wall in front of me, and he looked directly into my eyes. He looked so depressed. I almost cried. Zoos suck.

I love them, where I live there is a small one, in the center there is a lagoon with crocodiles, sea turtles and there is a rumor that the lagoon has no bottom and that there is a giant creature inside, many years ago my parents tell me a rare creature came out, half as 3 meters seemed to be a child of what was inside because it did not move only breathed, and the pond grew until it covered the animal, I think today that what is inside is a giant anaconda.

I feel sorry for the animals in the zoo

I remember the first time I went to a zoo, I was very excited to see all the animals that I would not have been able to see because they are not in my country. But after sometimes I started feeling sad because I though that actually these animals are trapped and so far away from their natural habitats and family. So I decided that I do not like zoos and dont go to them. Then later on in life I went on a safari, which I love, I have been on a few more after that. The animals are just living their everyday lives in the wilderness, I wonderful experience.
