Title: What is a good powered riser?
Post by: Bigdrago on February 01, 2018, 06:43:40 PM
I see there are a lot of powered risers out there.

But what is a good powered riser? Some have 8pin, 6pin and molex. I want to avoid sata.
Some have 4 capacitors while other have 6. Some have LED and some do not.

Where is the preferred place to order? Do any of the big manufactures sell powered risers? Like Asus, Acer, Samsung etc. Or are they all non branded and sold on eBay, amazon, alibaba and newegg?

What is a good powered riser and why do u use the ones u have?

I want to avoid ending up with bad ones that destroys the gpu or malfunction.

There are no "branded" risers, or at least I didn't found one yet :)
From power point of view the best are molex because they allow 150W power draw, next are 6 pins which allow 75W. Normally a GPU cannot draw more than 75W through the riser.
Currently I am using risers with 6 pins connected via 6 pin cables directly to the PSU, but I am looking to get molex ones. Also I avoid using adapters from let's say 6 pin to molex, or whatever.
Besides this I think a good riser is a one that works :)

I did quite a few research on pcie risers lately.

In the end, I bought these 009s manufactured by "N. oranie" on amazon:

Thanks, will have a look at them.

The risers that seem to be good and cheap are these:

I have many mining rigs but many of them are with old version risers 006 to 006C or 007. They work good after you troubleshoot them thoroughly during first 2-3 days. Lately I have build a mining rig with 6 x RX 580 Sapphire Pulse with the 008S riser which is the same as the 009S (of course 009S maybe better) but this rig has a specific. It has never restarted since it has started working about 2-3 weeks ago, that is a big positive sign for me and from now on I am only going to use these risers, so you have made a really good choice with those.
