I know some people will knock this, but I do have some suggestions INSTEAD of using a bank box.


There are indoor storage facilities, with different size accommodations. Mine has 65 cameras on each floor. You need a code to get into the bay area. You need a code to get into the
area where the carts are. You need a code to get onto the elevator. There's a camera in there, too. It's patrolled at night by a security company, and has indoor and perimeter sensors for lighting. Pay in cash or check every month.

You can also use a Bus Depot Locker.

You can use a Bowling Alley Locker.

You could just dig a hole. (I no longer like getting my hands dirty)

How about just a heavy duty fire rated safe?

For sure Krogo especially if you have a basement.  They can also be drilled to the floor and wall. For the room it's in you can also replace the regular door with a much stronger one.  These things weigh a zillion pounds and would take forever to steal if set up right.

Other options- storage units, hidden in plane site in your own home, bury it in capsules (Ron Swanson style), keep it multiple places.

Yeah, I keep some stuff at my home to barter with, and safes are my choice at home, but my personal collection is off site.

@Fattcatt are you talking private (not a bank) safety deposit boxes or self storage units? I know there are some private lock boxes out there but they are hard to find.

I know some of the big sellers of gold and other precious metals offer storage to customers. As for private places, they prolly exist, I just don't know of any near me. But I do
know, that it's nice to have options for both long and short term, and even cost effective, that no one but you would know about.  :)

You should just take your encrypted private key, stick it on a microchip, insert it into somewhere on your bosy (wrist? Foot? Idk?) then just use it when you need to. People can't just whack you with a wrench and steal it because they need the passphrase.

Other than that, just choose cool places around your house or in parks. Up a tree, in the gutters, just make sure your private key is on something that won't break down like thick metal or something like that. Hiding your private key in weird places is better than putting it in obvious places like a safe or a lock box IMO. Just encrypt it so if a random finds it it's useless, then hide them in 3 different locations. Done!

Lol good luck - you clearly aren’t educated on the topic. If I have a security system there’s no chance you can get in and get out before the police arrive (at least where I live in the US) or I do.  Yeah store your coins at Parks and in the gutter...smart lol  :D  :D

Since we are now apparently talking about wallets let me introduce the submersible aquarium wallet.

      I came up with the idea last year.

 You print out the qr codes for the priv and public key.
  Paste them back to back.
  Laminate together.
  Place in a cap and pour liquid plastic.
  Harden said plastic and bingo you have a water proof wallet!
  Throw in aquarium and bury under the sand.
  Thief proof and fire proof.

  Of course BIP32 encrypt in case the fish go after your wallet! ;D

   NB..if painted black can also be used as a hockey puck.

Best idea in the thread Krog.. my personal Security set up is living in a compound with 12FT walls, an armed guard at the end of our plot, 2 cars of 4 Armed guards total on a 2 minute response and living behind bullet proof windows..

I think I have a decent set up for the Physicals I have here.  Paper wallets are in Bank vaults in the UK..

I am starting to tell people IRL that I cashed out.. dread to think of the begging that we will all face when BTC hits $500K

Fatt!  How about the concrete wallet?  BITCRETE

         Print out a paper wallet. Make sure it is BIP32 Encrypted.
 
         Laminate.
 
         Place inside a threaded pipe and place silica gel packet and seal with two caps on each end.

         Place said pipe inside a box and pour concrete.

         Let concrete heal and solidify.

         Bingo! A concrete brick wallet that you can place inside a wall or just leave it around.

        Nobody would be the wiser on what is inside of it at all!  :D

...or you could paint it blue and put it in your toilet tank.  :D
