With the way the price of bitcoin is falling now. How do you see and what do think?. Soon, from my own perspective bitcoin will soon be call altcoin.

Bitcoin was the first digital coin, therefor other coins are called altcoins, abbreviation for alternative coin. The price is not going to change whether Bitcoin is an altcoin or not, in essence every altcoin that is created is based on Bitcoin.

Bitcoin is the first crypto coin and thus it will never be alt coin. Regarding price going down, it is temporary.

Anyway, I have to let you know that bitcoin is going no where and won't be referred as an altcoin. Bitcoin has a long rough, splendid history and usually a slow starter at the beginning of the year. It was around less than $1000 this time last year, mind you.

Bitcoin is more-or-less a king maker with forks . Therefore, I could agree that the dipping would lead to some altcoins giving a fight in the CMC and crypto world when the market reverts to upward trend.

I don't think the definition of 'alt-coin' will ever change but I understand your point. This year I can see bitcoin becoming the no 2 coin behind ethereum and with time it can be overtaken by many others unless there are dramatic changes, there's always a sense of inevitability about these things, very few leaders can remain leaders for eternity and are often replaced by new upcoming technologies and ideas.

The importance of bitcoin doesn't have anything to do with its price, because there are a lot of coins whose prices are high, but are not that important in the grand scheme of things. Bitcoin is the poster child of cryptocurrencies, so if it goes down, all crypto will go down (at least initially). As such, bitcoin will not be an altcoin, because if bitcoin is reduced to an altcoin, there will be no altcoins remaining.

i think you still dont understand about bitcoin, bitcoin is the mother of all coin, i know rightnow bitcoin is down but this is a chance for new investor to buy bitcoin. do you know i think 1 month for now bitcoin price will go up sharply, and thats it Bitcoin is still the King.

Ethereum isn't 'just' an altcoin, it's Eth...

It stands alone without Bitcoin and any good cryptocurrency will do that. Altcoin is an umbrella term to refer to coins 'other' than Bitcoin. I think their success deteremines whether or not they get to be referred to by their name or simply as 'an altcoin'.

I see the sentiment, but Bitcoin simply 'is'. It may become redundant, but the success of any other coin will always be considered relative to Bitcoin.

Ethereum in 2020 might hit $20,000,000.

Technically, bitcoin can never be called altcoin because the whole crypto currency concept started with bitcoin. So a father will always remain a father, no matter how old he becomes. Bitcoin will never be De-throned. If you talk about price, then let me tell you that, bitcoin was priced at $1044 just one year back at the same day. So those who have invested at that time, are still in profit of 800%. It is true that we are going through a bad time because the price came down to 8.5k from 21k just few months back, but still it remains the boss and will remain in the same position.

This will never happen.. In such a speculative field, most altcoins are mostly used for making quick buck or two or used to scam others from fake ICO's. Consequently, they are still closely tied with Bitcoin. If Bitcoin’s reputation gets damaged, it will negatively affect the whole cryptocurrency market. Pretty much all altcoins will suffer as Bitcoin's value goes down, especially in a market capitalization. With that said, altcoins will most likely continue to rely on Bitcoin’s brand and remain in its shadow.

Bitcoin will always remain to be Bitcoin, altcoins will always remain to be altcoins. It's not about price, market cap or sth, it doesn't have effect.
Word "Altcoin" is just a term to describe all other coins than Bitcoin.

You would have thought a little before you wrote this. Bitcoin is the founder of cryptocurrency,it the central currency.
Therefore, other coins are called altcoins, because they are secondary, they were created thanks to the same Ethereum.

Bitcoin will remain Bitcoin no matter the price it can never assume altcoin position. The price will soon revert and trend upwards. The banning rumors are responsible for this slide in price.

I personally am not worried about seeing the price of cryptocurrency crashes, I'm sure this is just a correction and the price will increase again in the future, so I'm thinking now only to buy bitcoin and it will be invested for a long term.

Bitcoin will remain bitcoin whatever happens, whether it's price is at the top most high or even reaching the bottom part. This is the first cryptocurrency ever made so it doesn't deserved to be called an altcoin and besides how come that a pioneer in this field will become an alternative?  ::) (no offense)
How sure are you with that? We still have remaining 10 months and I'm sure that lot of things will still happen. It's still  very early to predict the market, I'm still pretty confident that btc will rise again, just keep waiting.

I don't think bitcoin would be could an altcoin the downfall of the price won't last forever it could take a year but we'll surely recover after that and we convert most altcoins with bitcoin (chain reaction happens if bitcoin is down same goes with alts) that's why I think it'll be hard for bitcoin to be called an alt. Imo it would take years before we see a random altcoin taking over the spot of bitcoin.

Bitcoin is the most important and popular crypto currency so will remain always Bitcoin, the price does not change the name, this will never happen.

Bitcoin is the most important and popular crypto currency, therefore there is no way that it can be called as alt coin due to its unique and independent features. Altcoins are using bitcoin as their model to improve their features and qualities.

I totally agree! Altcoins are being converted into bitcoin when you trade it. So how would it be possible for bitcoin to become an altcoin when in the very first place, all altcoins are depending on bitcoin. Bitcoin will still be the most powerful crypto currency among others.

Bitcoin cannot be called a Alt coin, because it was the first Crypto currency. The Market cap or the value cannot change the fact that it is the original coin and all coins developed after that are called Alt coins. Even if the value of bitcoins goes to $1, it will still be the original coin.

I think bitcoin will still be called bitcoin, bitcoin name already familiar in crypto currencies users, it's not that easy to switch bitcoin position, right now the market of bitcoin is not good but once lightning network working, investors will switch back to bitcoin and it will be easy for bitcoin to be on top, so bitcoin will never being called as alt coin

Just so you know, alternative coins (altcoins) will be altcoins and its master (the first cryptocurrency in history) will be bitcoins.
it will be possible (close to rare) that major altcoins ( ETH LTC etc.) will surpass bitcoins in terms of value but we  can not change its history, bitcoin will remain the father of all cryptocurrency.
also Im hoping that the market will recover as soon as possible for us not to think on that way :)

I think it is impossible Bitcoin, Ether, can be seen as the base currency of the blockchain world, and can even be seen as the legal currency of the two blockchain superpowers, while the other Altcoin can be seen as a blockchain The stocks in the world, which stocks are more valuable, need to have enough knowledge to judge and understand....

Is it because bitcoincash will take its name as  bitcoin? They will not succeed on that. That is the only chance I see where bitcoin will become just an altcoin but we know how most of us hate bitcoincash so we won't ever see that happening.

I don't think this will ever happen. Despite of the price drop that is happening with bitcoin right now it is still the most well-known cryptocurrency being the first digital currency. Bitcoin have already gained its popularity and that can never be erased, altcoins are still using bitcoin as the basis of conversion so it's still holds the top spot for cryptocurrency.

Bitcoin is the mother of all currencies and it should be respected by other altcoins. The price of bitcoin is falling down and this is the time we need to load are ammos and to buy altcoins as well For me bitcoin is no.1 cryptocurrency in the market.
