Title: Ethereum Ledger Wallet Chrome app (for Nano S) tells me to use MyEtherWallet
Post by: GRAA on February 02, 2018, 06:22:59 PM
Hello,

When I launch the Chrome app for Ethereum for the Nano Ledger S I get this message:

Important Notice

Due to current temporary instability of our Ethereum nodes, we recommend our users to use the Ledger integration of myetherwallet.com.

With a link to https://support.ledgerwallet.com/hc/en-us/articles/115005200009 (https://support.ledgerwallet.com/hc/en-us/articles/115005200009)

I got two options; a cyan colored button 'Go to MyEtherWallet' and a grey colored button 'Use Ledger Wallet'.

I prefer to use the Ethereum Ledger Wallet, like I used to. What will happen if I use the Ledger Wallet anyway?

I've got funds on Binance, if I send them now to the Ledger Wallet for Ethereum, will it go wrong? Or what can happen?

I really don't want to use the MyEtherWallet. I don't want my crypto to be online.

Thanks.

Your coins will arrive normally.

Your wallet won't be online.

MyEtherWallet is client-side. Your private-keys will NEVER leave the device.

Thanks for your reply.

I was just a little worried because it mentioned 'instability' of their Ethereum nodes.

How will you know it will arrive normally though? I'm wondering because of their 'important notice'.

Thanks.

This was posted by the Ledger CEO 3 days ago: https://www.reddit.com/r/ledgerwallet/comments/7u0flt/ledger_wallet_chrome_ethereum_application/

"As our nodes are having some issues with broadcasting, the transaction is shown as successfull but doesn't appear on the explorers. As users are concluding that it didn't go through, another transaction is signed, and finally both gets transmitted, resulting in spending double the amount."

It's mainly recommended to use MEW if you want to spend your coins since Ledger transactions "are being broadcasted in double". But to receive, there should be no problems as only Ledger's nodes are having issues. This means that coins should arrive normally in your address as Ledger is only a "client" to control your coins stored in the Ethereum blockchain. The only possible issue is that Ledger doesn't see your incoming transaction. If this happens, you can use MEW to see and spend the coins or wait until Ledger fixes their nodes. But the coins won't be lost.

Allright thanks for that explanation.

So I went ahead and I sent Ethereum from Binance to the Ledger Wallet app. It seems to have arrived now since it displays the correct balance.

Thanks again.
