Title: Improving +merit system
Post by: mdayonliner on February 02, 2018, 08:07:40 PM
This is how the +merit works at the moment.

When you want to +merit someone, you click the +merit (please see here https://prnt.sc/i9avtx ) and a new tab opens up with the option to send desire merit to the person.

Can't we improve it like this...

When someone click on the +merit then instead of opening a new tab I think a light-box (small pop up window) would be more user-friendly. Once you click on the send button ( https://prnt.sc/i9az0k ) then the content of the light-box may be change with a message saying, "sMerit sent successfully" or the light-box just disappears. This way I guess a user will not need to go to the new tab and after finish sending the merit the user will not need to come back to the window they were in at the first place.

Also I think at the moment there are no notification option for receiving merit. A notification once you receive any merit to the email inbox would be nice since this merit thing is playing very important roll for the forum members.

Hope the admin team consider these suggestions to improve the user experience of the forum.

The +merit button works well for me. If you want an enhanced facility, I think a member wrote a bit of js to improve this.

I find notification really annoying, and I disable them wherever I can.

I'm such a luddite. :)

An option would be nice. Once you have it then it's up to you if you want to use it or not. I do personally disable notification however I would not mind to keep the notification on for having merit coz each merits are kind of very important for me coz I am focused to improve my raking. I do blv thousands of member like me will have the same saying that getting merits are really important for them.

The problem with this approach is that you're still dealing with popups and when you return to the original page, it hasn't been refreshed.

I would think the right way to do it would have the merit button take you to the merit page instead of opening a new window, and then returning you to the thread once you leave merit, that way you can see your merit has been left, and you're right back where you started.  No annoying popup windows on your mobile, etc...

When a data change then if they refresh the data on the background then as an user you should not be facing this kind of issue. Once the data will be changed then the script will refresh the output on the background.

Take care if you are refreshing the donate page, as I understand this can cause a double spend.

It happened to me, super lucky for that person. I'm using mobile phone that time and for about 30secs the merit gets doubled. Well the idea of a pop up system is quiet ok for me since it don't need to open another window and you can just give merits easily, i don't think we still need the notification just look at your merit and you will see your transaction there.

I heard the same thing then they fixed it. When you make change in a script then sometimes it you will discover little bugs here and there.

This can cause a lot of confusion. A member was accused of selling merits as he gave 10 merit points by mistake. He gave 5 points and then refreshed resulting in another 5 points.
