Title: What will people mine next after Ethereum goes full POS?
Post by: KAOS247365 on February 02, 2018, 11:21:53 PM
So I have a fair few mining rigs (50 x 8 GPU) all mining Eth currently, and my Million dollar BIG question is what will people be mining next?!?

I hate to shut down my rigs on the bases that I don't know which coin to mine profitably.

I'm NOT looking for simply mining coins and then trading them for BTC/Eth to invest into other ICO/projects/Coins/Tokens, this is my LAST option if there are no choices.
I'm looking for a coin that has huge up potential and gains in the future like Ethereum haha but is mineable now obviously.
My rigs have i5 processors so CPU mining is not my angle.
They all have 120GB SSD so HDD mining is not an option too.

GPU is the best option the cards I run are Asus STRIX RX580 OC super clocked for Eth mining.

I know we are all looking for the next Eth but to add mining in there may limit some of the coins that fit the bill.

What are best choices peeps? Grin

There are a few alternatives and I think this will boost the price of the other coins while making Ethereum lose some money in the transition.

I'd start by just looking at what coins are mineable and doing a bit of research. According to Coinmarketcap (https://coinmarketcap.com/coins/views/filter-non-mineable/), only 9 mineable coins have a market cap above $1 billion. The top 4 (BTC, ETH, BCC, and LTC) are either changing to PoS (ETH) or not ASIC resistant. I'd definitely look into the other 5 and see which ones seem the most promising to you, and perhaps a few smaller caps as well if that's what you're more interested in.

That's exactly what I think too, however depending on what the staking level is for Eth, people may buy more eth to get the nodes before the big dump in Eth price.

I think Monero is a likely candidate for all the rigs currently mining ETH. I however disagree with the premise that switching to PoS will cause a price drop in ETH.

There will be a lot of Ethash coin in the future (They already exist now),

AMD rigs will mine that kind of coins.  Ethash the secret word :)

There plenty of choice for sure. But why try hard with mining thing while you can get extra money just by staking your existing ethereum ? less energy use no need all that ant miner or bunch of vga.

Why not mine coin that still low marketcap, it is a little bit risky but you can make speculation on it IMO. With that rig you can find coin with ethihash & cryptonite algo, so just try make speculation with low cap / brand new coin when ethereum is not mineable anymore.

XMR mining is still profitable right now,i have been mining ethereum and monero for about a year and i can say they are still profitable, but there are new coins that can replace these two giants, bitcoin cash and litecoin would be profitable as they are still in adolescense period in cryptocurrency market. But if ethereum really going to be hug the POS system if might be replace by some solid coin like NEO.

Monero. To me XMR is one of the most undervalued cryptos in the market and has huge potential to be 'like ethereum' in the future. The rx580 is actually really nice mining XMR, I think you can get around 850 H/s or 890 H/s (OC) each, so if you have 8 of those you're looking at almost 9k H/s.

Mining other GPU oriented coins can be a solution but there are few worthy of them and with the entry of millions of Ethereum GPUs, the difficulty and hence profit will be low. Another satisfactory thing about GPUs is they have a resell value for gamers. I wonder what people would do with Scrypt and Sha256 rigs after they goes unprofitable?
