Title: making an asic miner
Post by: sei on September 03, 2013, 11:23:36 PM
been reading through forums and was thinking of trying to make one.

seems like the hardest bit is getting the chips. avalon makes theirs from tsmc if im not mistaken. could we just order from tsmc?

A premade machine or with the chips?  (the very small ones)

as in instead of ordering hashing chips from avalon or bitfury can we just contact a semiconductor for an order?

No, that would be like bypassing Intel to get the latest processors. You need to create a chips design then give it to TSMC for large scale production. The design is the most difficult and expensive task.

alright, then is there a way to purchase a design or how much would it take to hire someone to design one

You'd probably need an experienced computer engineer and and a lot of money.

thanks so much. besides them anyone know of any more? any rough estimate for design? or anyone here who would like to help me out whos knowledgeable?

my factory has an assembly line for ic/ chips but we were doing mostly receivers, lnb/ satelite tv accessories. we grab parts from china and assemble in indonesia so we have all needed equipment to assemble. labour is cheap here and i already have an assembly line for this sort of thing. i thought might aswell make some asic miners for u all. any more help would be appreciated

Do you have a million US Dollar?

lets just say the biggest issue is chip design/ acquiring the chips

hire experts, order from a factory. look at what other asic companies did and copy + innovate.
