Yes Bitcoin is expensive and I completely understand the dilemma people face while buying Bitcoins as I have been through that phase too.That is to buy or not is the question ?

Bitcoin is the most valued crypto currency and the currency with the highest Return on Investment (ROI). And as great entrepreneurs say with higher risk comes higher returns , what I suggest is invest whatever you can in Bitcoin and you will not regret your decision.

While other currencies will reduce the risk as the volatility of these currencies is less but that will also reduce the Returns that you will get using these currencies .

First ten cryptocuurecies in top 100 coinmarketcap; each one of them (expect bitcoincash) can be a value concerent to BTC but bitcoin will always keep its own specific to be the most decentralized cryptocurrencies in our days. Most of them own a good value backed by their products such as smart contracts for ethereum which is still undervalue even having the best rate. If you are willing to invest so you should do your own researches for the best one with great potentials but no way to compare any of them with bitcoin.

I have invested in Ethereum, Litecoin, and pangeacoins. I know we can buy fractions of bitcoin, but it seems whoever is behind bitcoins doesn't speak. The teams behind ETH and LTC are very public. Makes me feel a little better.

Without any doubt ethereum is the second best cryptocurrencie after bitcoin , his market cap was always second behind bitcoin and his price made a huge grow last year , I can't predict that his price can get close to bitcoin specially with the total supply who is 5 times bigger but for long term it can hit 5k , of course this is depends on the increase of the total market cap , we will wait and see but I believe that ethereum will be a great investment for sure .

It depends what you mean by "best". Ethereum and Neo have contracts. Nano is fast and fee-less. XLM allows staking. KCS pays dividends. Doge has the memes. etc, etc.

The best cryptocurrency next to bitcoin according to me is ripple. cause it has a specific use and is being said the future digital currencies that are ever gonna be used by the banks. many banks have even started using it. its price will rise because in every XRP transaction, a part of it is burned which will reduce the supply in the future thus increasing the demand as well as the price of it. so its currently great time to buy ripple XRP when its near 1$ price. The next preferable coin is Ripple, Ethereum, NEO these three coins are good potential in the crypto market. Many peoples are accepting this point and many experts also predict the future possibilities in these coins.

I think bitcoin has a positive and important influence on the crypto market. Beyond Bitcoin, I think ETH is being stabilized. I invested in ETH and a little DOGE. I noticed the professionalism, responsibility from the team. Their project is very public. That makes me trust them.

That's because of all the new projects/tokens launching on the Ethereum blockchain. Until lightning network comes out for Bitcoin, the focus of developers will be on Ethereum instead. I was recently in an ICO where they only accepted payment in ethereum and not anything else including bitcoin.  :o

depends on criteria you chose. For swift cheap transactions litecoin is really cool. Eth and nem are good for smart contracts. then you have new companies and tokens that target specific industry segments. a lot to choose from

It would be necessary to define what you understand by "best cryptocurrency". I believe that each one has a personal list of those that he considers the best cryptos according to his own analysis and his expectations. In fact, there are those who consider even Dogecoin a currency more efficient than bitcoin, while others despise it. Personally, I think there are more than a hundred altcoins better than bitcoin, starting with ethereum.

Agree totally with XRP but I expect it to 2 x in the next few months once it recovers.  Personally, I like Powr, I just like the concept and this coin has a lot of growth potential.

In answer to OP, ETH in my opinion is the 2nd biggest and seems to have less limitations compared to BTC.

I think for me the best cryptocurrency next to bitcoin is ethereum and litecoin. I have my ethereum too. if you will study the price of ethereum you can see also that it started with very cheap price. even last dec it was only 450 and became 980 somehing now. it went to like 1400 also on beginning of january vut it goes down a bit . but it is still on its high price. litecoin too I think it is also good to invest in that coin.
