as many of the altcoins are low right now i have decided to take some money out of my savings and invest it in alts.
which coins do you think i should invest in?
duration-1 year
 and i can take out my money anytime but not more than a year.
coins i hold right now- btc,eth,xrp

I would probably go for XRP and XLM as safe investments. If you are willing to take some risks (because there are some FUD and scam rumors surrounding them) you may want to go for XVG and TRX; if the FUD around them disappears, both coins will definitely moon.

NEO and Stratis may be beneficial. Along with these, I recommend Ethereum. Many coins will rise in this year.

If you are planning to hold for one year, then it makes more sense to pick from well-established coins, with working products and partnerships, that will produce solid gains over the next 12 months. There is no point investing in random hit-or-miss ICOs or tiny marketcap "moon-shots" for 12 months - those are short term investments only. Do your own research.

If it was me, I would be picking coins like ETH, NEO, XLM, VEN, OMG, ICX. I hold some, but not all, of these.

I think the safest is ethereum. You can also hold coins in the top 10 on coinmarketcap.

Try to research about the project of POLYMATH this ones looks really the future of Ethereum. The all new and upgraded blockchain and you can also create smart like ERC20 but in the polymath they call it ST20. Try to check that out.

Like everyone else, I also recommend that you invest in Ethereum, Ethereum can be said to be the successor to bitcoin, bitcoin backed, and many people are optimistic about it, compared to other coins have more advantages and relative safety. ;D

I would choose undervalued, silent coins which have a good team and project. oax is one of the lowest volume coins in binance, it could be good place to store value nowadays because it can easily rise, I think you will have no chance of losing with oax.

I guess that soon we'll see even lower prices, so don't rush to make all in now. If I were you I'd invest around 30% now at different strong projects which have a huge draw-down atm: OCN, CND, APPC, CAPP. The rest 70% I'd postpone for new dips.

If you are going for a year period, select a good ICO project.
Arcblock just ended its ICO reaching it's cap in just 3 days, medicalchain too had a successful one.
Other promising project in my opinion are

Altair VR, a virtual reality platform to explore space.

I think you can rely on some of the following: Stellar, Monero and IOTA.
Honestly, I'm also a supporter of Ethereum Classic. But the choice is yours.

I think almost all alts now is down by its price, if you are planning to invest, put youre capital to the coin that you think Will give you profit in return. If your asking some suggestion I suggest reddcoin and siacoin both coins are down now and it has potential to go up.

I would go for new coins at least for 50 percent. That's where you gain if you risk. Zilliqa, Wanchain are under my radar at the moment, for wanchain we need to wait more though. Have a good look at DRGN as well. They just started showing some activities and not so known yet, but probably will be in near future

I think Ark is a very promising coin. I would propose to invest some of it in savings. She had a good growth that year, I think soon the coin will update its maximum

Stratis is powerful platform with good developers team, but the main disadvantage is bad marketing. So, when they change that the price will go high.

I think that this big crisis in the  market is very necessary to buy many currencies. In fact, for my opinion, the best two currencies to buy are Bitcoin and Ethereum because the profit in all of them is certain and in a long term and they are always the basic on the market.

As a matter of fact, Ripple , Tron, lisk are the best low currencies in price and it's essential to buy a large amount of them because it's sure that those currencies will progress in the near future.

You've been nice to choose bitcoin,ethereum but if xrp I'm not sure because look at the market if xrp is less rapid development of its price,in contrast to ethereum and bitcoin price development very fast and his profit was more than satisfactory.

There is a sense in investing ico if there is a good project that will develop well and bring a good profit, but now you can choose from already held tokens that are traded on the stock exchanges but are heavily lost in price because of the market drop. They will just as quickly grow in value as they fell.

I would not rely on Ripple right now. Although this is not the best time to enter the market of crypto, you should better deal with smaller altcoins and keep them for a very short time to sell after. Fargocoin is not bad, for instance.

Buying the smaller altcoins is outright suicidal, especially during the current market conditions. Even established alts such as Monero are dropping quite heavily, with up to 80% declines.  If you invest in the smaller coins, then there is a chance that you may lose all your capital.

Wave is the best alternative currency to buy now. Bitcoins, Litecoin and Ether which is the most secured are now moving downwards and waves is the most reliable alternative to any other coins going down.

Ethereum-Market cap is already really high compared to bitcoin, as it is already about 65% from bitcoin, as there are 6x Ethereum tokens for each bitcoin.
I don't really think that there is any chance for Ethereum to get close to bitcoin( which means about 40% rise).
For the long run, I would go with the Anonymous coins, as regulators are trying to regulate the market, a thing that is going to make people to run and buy anonymous coins as regulators can't track them.

I do not think that investing into an ICO is a great idea, it is too much risky. Better buy Cardano, NEO, ARK, Ethereum, EOS.  I suppose exactly these alternative coins will have the better potential in future.
