Title: Antminer A3 (Blake2b/Sia) Overclock Test Results
Post by: glosed on February 04, 2018, 07:27:29 PM
Hi all,

Finally got my Kill A Watt in the mail, so I tinkered around with overclocking my A3 to find an optimal frequency setting. Results below, I hope this helps!

Setup

Miner: Antminer A3 815GH/s
PSU: EVGA SuperNOVA 1600 G2
Circuit: 120v, 20A dedicated
Environment:Intake fan resting at open window, weather around 40F

Methodology

Pretty straightforward...
  • Adjust the frequency setting on the Antminer
  • Let the Antminer run for 5-7 minutes
  • Once stable, record the data
  • If a test seems like an outlier, re-test that frequency later to confirm (No results ended up changing, initial results were confirmed)

Results

FrequencyAvg. HashrateATW WattagePCB TempChip TempFan SpeedHW Error %

Seems like the sweet spot is around 662-681. Not sure if I feel comfortable running at nearly 1% HW Error Rate, despite the increase in Hashrate. Comments/Opinions? Probably shouldn't have even attempted the 712 test after what the 700 looked like... I did test lower frequencies after and am getting good HW rates so it seems to not have done serious damage to the machine.

I did not factor in the effect of increasing power draw, as I am in a lucky situation where electricity is included in my rent ;D (and depending on what your $/kWh costs are, results may vary).

I run at 644 with HW of 0.0001% with
70C chip 1
81C chip 2
77C chip 3
No custom set fan speed
Ambient temp 25F, you mentioned switching to Luxor what was your total coin mined on Sia last 24hrs? I dropped from 2000 to 1750 diff increasing...

Actual I have the following setup: (PSU Bitmain, 230VAC)
INPUT: freq: 687MHz, fan 100%, PCB temp: ~ 50°C, core temp: 65°C, outside temp: -> +2°C intake air.
OUTPUT: 940Gh/s: HW ~ 0,5%, fan speed: ~ 5300rmp - yes, loud.
Power consumption: 1500W/230VAC

Which settings do you use?
I’d like to get out the max. of the A3.

Any ideas how to lower power consumption? (I mean not via freq.!)
How is it done at the mod D3? (blissz version?)

Thanks and bye, FNT
