Title: List of non-profit Bitcoin organization around the world.
Post by: ripper234 on September 06, 2013, 05:27:47 AM
Hello everyone,

I created a list of non-profit Bitcoin organizations (https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/List_of_Bitcoin_non-profits_around_the_world) around the world (wiki). Right now, from lack of time and knowledge, I only put the Bitcoin Foundation and the Israeli Bitcoin Foundation on the list - please add other relevant organizations to this list. Try to include contact information whenever possible.

Reference???

As far as I know they are registered as a nonprofit.
From their bylaws (https://github.com/pmlaw/The-Bitcoin-Foundation-Legal-Repo/blob/master/Bylaws/Bylaws_of_The_Bitcoin_Foundation.md):

Of course you need to add the Bitcoin100 (bitcoin100.org (http://bitcoin100.org))

Are you trying to list non-profits designed to help bitcoins, or just non-profits which accept bitcoins as donations? Bitcoin100 counts as both, on their website they list a number of other organizations which they have helped to start accepting bitcoins as well.

I'm on my phone so not in a great position to edit the wiki but Sean's Outpost is a great charity that accepts bitcoins to care for the homeless.

I was actually initially aiming to just get the "Bitcoin foundation clones" in the various countries (whatever is the correct term to call them, they are not official chapters yet).

However listing other types of charity is a great idea - I added Bitcoin100.
I prefer not to add organizations that I don't know much about myself, and have more knowledgeable contributors to add the information directly. I added a few criterias for the desired organizations:

1. A focus on Bitcoin or crypto-currency (merely accepting Bitcoin donations is not enough)
2. Being a non-profit
3. The organization needs to be either a registered non-profit or in the process of active registration.
