in short: no.

You can use your cpu and maybe your graphics card (im not sure if it supports open cl or cuda) but forget about it.
You will have a much higher higher electricity rate then profit from bitcoinmining.

As a hobby yes, for profit and earn money no. But be careful if you want to use your graphics card cause I've got a friend that burned the card out and now need to replace it......

Even alt coin mining with your 8 core CPU is not worth the reduced life of your notebook, but you may try it just for fun (not for profit)

I have a lot of free time at work, so I grind out the faucets.
That's the best place for n00bz like us to start.
It's time consuming, but if you only have time to kill, I say why not?

yes, and I wouldn't recommend it. burning your laptop for 0.01 cents, waste of money

Laptops should never be used for mining as it may totally ruin them, mining would not cover the cost of damages done to your laptop as the difficulty is too much now.

Yes, but not for profit.

Use calculators online to calculate your income.

I would recommend mining litecoin and selling LTC for BTC.

Bitcoins or Litecoins - just for fun.
But it can mine CPU-only coins (e.g. Quarkcoin or Securecoin) pretty well.

almost any device can mine, even your tablet. however, you're burning your hardware for little to no return.

not worth it

I set up cgminer on my little acer laptop and it was fun to do so and get it running.  However, I found that what the folks on here are saying is right, there was no profit to be made that way.  The difficulty was much too high.  I would run and run and was maybe generating a bitmil per week or something like that.  It was a good learning experience, though.  I'd recommend it if you like to compile and install code from sources.
