Title: Planning To Start Accepting Payments
Post by: ModifiedController on July 14, 2011, 09:49:38 PM
Hi, I am the owner of Modified Controller (.com)

I'm new to Bitcoin, but i like the idea. I'd like to accept payments on my site, but would like to test it out first. Would anybody be interested in picking something up off of my site with bitcoin, so I can see the transaction go through. I just want to be familiar with it before I jump in.

Thanks!

-CD

Looks like an ad. The only thing there now is PayPal checkout, plus you can just buy from yourself if you have the backend all going and want to see if it works.

You would have to have a cart system set up on the site, no?   Make a landing page to say you will be accepting Bitcoin and put one or two products up on that page.  Come back and link, I bet someone might buy to help support your interest in Bitcoin, as at that point it would be very genuine (seeming at least, more so than this thread).

You don't need Bitcoins to start accepting bitcoins, you just need to download the software to get an address.

i sort of just wanted to see a bitcoin transaction go through. More or less I just wanted somebody to send an amount and in return I would give them something from the site for fair value. Ill work on a page as suggested above and see what happens. I currently have 0 bitcoin so I cant do any transactions on my own.

https://freebitcoins.appspot.com/ happy brithday :)

Edit: I see how Atom read what you said, now I see it too.  You do not need Bitcoin to do Bitcoin transactions, I am kind of confused now.  You want people to give you Bitcoin so you can spend Bitcoin?

They do have markets that allow you to buy 1 Bitcoin, and at only $13 something right now, I would suggest buying some.

Hey Thanks! That worked (i think)

I want to buy some, but so far its a pain in the rear to get them without signing up for some account or paying a huge "fee".

I think that the best option is to trade a few dollars for bitcoins and buy things yourself. During that process you will also learn a few things about bitcoins.

If you're testing then use testnet. The difficulty is low enough to be trivially mined and the testnet faucet has thousands of coins which it still gives away 5 at a time for the extremely lazy.

Looking for a market? Check out Bitcoin7.com, they are very, very fast. If your American, try TradeHill.com. Canadian? Try out cavirtex.com

So true, you will never appreciate something you got for free if you got that same item and earned it.

This post does demonstrate a good point: someone that creates a turnkey shopping cart service for third-party sellers, calculates the current bitcoin price for the store item, takes the bitcoins, and sends the shop owner the fiat currency they are used to would further the Bitcoin currency movement much.

I totally agree.

And for the record: I wouldn't ask for anything for free, I feel like I offer a valuable product on my site, which is the whole point of wanting to offer to accept bitcoin in the first place.
