which 7950 GPU is a better option for Mining?

  • 3GB MSI Radeon HD 7950 Overclocked, 28nm, 5000MHz GDDR5, GPU 830MHz, 1792 Cores, DL DVI-I/ HDMI/ 2x mini DP

  • 3GB MSI Radeon HD 7950 Twin Frozr OC BE, 28nm, 5000MHz GDDR5, GPU 880MHz, 1792 Cores, DVI/ HDMI/ 2x mini DP

  • 3GB XFX Radeon HD 7950 DD Black Edition, 28nm, 5500MHz GDDR5, GPU 900MHz, 1792 Cores, DL DVI-I/ HDMI/ 2x mini DP

  • 3GB Sapphire Radeon HD 7950 Flex OC with Boost, 28nm, 5000MHz GDDR5, GPU 860MHz, 1792 Cores, DL DVI-I/ HDMI/ 2x mini DP

  • 3GB Gigabyte Radeon HD 7950 Windforce 3X, 28nm, 5000MHz GDDR5, GPU 900MHz, 1792 Cores, DL DVI-I/ HDMI/ 2x mini DP

Other components which I have includes:

  • ASUS Crosshair IV Formula, Socket AM3, AMD (90MIBCN0G0EAY00Z) Motherboard
  • Corsair CMX8GX3M2A1600C9 XMS3 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 1600 Mhz CL9 Performance Desktop Memory Kit
  • AMD SDX145HBGMBOX Sempron 145 Single-Core Energy Efficient Processor (2.80 GHz, 1MB Cache, Socket AM3, 45W)
  • Corsair AX Series AX860 860W Platinum Power Supply (CP-9020044-UK, ATX 12v v2.3, Active PFC, EPS 2.92, 80 PLUS Platinum)

I am planning to purchase two 7950 cards.

Which card best suits for this configuration and how much hashrate I can get.

You should get similar performance from all the cards. Some might be able to OC higher, but you should be able to get at least 550KH/s on any of them.

I would say you're fine with any of them, except for the first one. The cooler on the first one is crap, and you will have heat and stability issues. If you get an MSI, make sure it's got a TFIII cooler.

Out of that list, I'd most recommend the MSI TFIII, or the Gigabyte WF3. I have two of the MSI TFIII 7950s, and MSI AB can adjust the voltages no problem. The Gigabyte isn't voltage unlocked, but the F43 BIOS has a lower stock voltage, and runs pretty decent from what I can tell.

I haven't heard much about the XFX or Sapphire. I don't know off the top of my head if either is voltage unlocked. I like Sapphire cards, but I tend to stay away from XFX. Just my personal preference, but YMMV.

I've just bought a 3GB Gigabyte Radeon HD 7950 Windforce 3X and am loving it.
I can over clock it to 1150MHZ easy and that puts out about 645KHs at I 18

Not sure about the others, when i was looking it came down to the Sapphire and the Gigabyte.
Either of those is probably good a good choice.

I too have not hear good things about the MSI ones. I think my choice was swayed by the noise. My card is nice a quite and runs at ~70C
If you get the gigabyte version the CGMiner like to keep the fans up higher than needed so i would recommend using the overclocking tool to control the fans on the card.

Can you let me know whether I will be able to accommodate two  3GB MSI Radeon HD 7950 Twin Frozr OC BE cards and how much hashrate I can get from it.

Ya the rest of that hardware looks pretty good. You might be able to get away with 4GB of RAM, but 8GB certainly won't hurt. You should be able to run 2 GPUs with no issues. As I said, I have 2 of those GPUs, and the top one is several degrees warmer than the bottom one. I only have 1 PCI space between them, but that board will let you do 2 spaces with no problems. You could even go up to 4 GPUs with risers, IIRC, but you'll need a bigger PSU for that.

Those MSI TFIII can get 550KH/s with almost no effort, and can get to 600KH/s pretty easily, if you have the proper cooling.

The MSI TF III's can get 650 KH/s with no problem and with no heat problems. I have 8 of them and they maintain that hashing rate while hanging around 70C , auto fan on running about 40% on the fans. I use CGminer

Hope that helps.

PS I agree with the guy that said the other MSI 7950 without the Twin Frozr design run about 10C hotter I sold them and got 2 more of the TFIII's happy now.

Get the cheapest one you can find. These days, it's not likely you'll recover your investment. Might as well limit your losses.

Can you provide me the reaper of Cgminer configutration that you are using to get 650kh/s.. I just received my GPUs today.
Also in after burner I am unable to adjust the core voltage as its disabled.

I tried the following... but no use.

UnofficialOverclockingEULA = I confirm that I am aware of unofficial overclocking limitations and fully understand that MSI will not provide me any support on it
UnofficialOverclockingMode = 1
UnlockVoltageControl= 1

Can you please help me in this

MSI Frozr and Sapphire Vapor-X are by far the best cards for mining.  Tonnes of people use it, there's 0.962v BIOSs for both, and since many people have them there is always help provided with these cards.

XFX cards are not for mining.
Their heatsink overheats so much, no matter what you do the GPU will sit at around 85C.

I prefer the 3 fan windforce.

I agree 100% with this. I built a rig with 3x xfx 7950s, barring extraordinary measures they are hard to get under 80c. Mine only do 620kh/s too. I haven't tried other firmwares but may in the future. Does anyone know which xfx firmware would unlock the voltage?

bumpiddy bump?

would like to know if xfx stepped up and fixed their issues in the past few months or not ;]
