Title: Building a rig if power consumption is not an issue.
Post by: LuffyXP on February 10, 2018, 05:14:28 AM
Hey everyone,

So I’m planning on building a rig and I searched the forums for advice but no one really had answers to my particular question. So I live somewhere where the electricity is included in the rent. I’m planning on building a rig to mine with. Anyone have any idea what cards are the most cost effective in terms of availability and mark ups? Any suggestions would be helpful. I was thinking about getting 12 1050ti or 6 1060ti. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Well there are two things you have to consider
1. the cost of cards
2. the cost of the rig ( mb, cpu, memory, etc.)
In case of 1050ti the prices now seem more / less normal as before the price jump, while the price for gtx1060 overprices a little, but if you choose to build the rigs on 1050ti you'll have to spend twice as more for components (mb/psu/memory and etc).
So I'd say of you can find good deal for gtx1060 - stick with them

If electricity isn't a factor, then I'd say get a more power hungry card that will give you more MH/s. I'm mining with 1050TIs due to them being low end cards and them not being as power hungry. So I'd say go with the GTX 1060s. But I'm a noob and just set my rig up last week so don't take my word for it lol.

You should see whattomine, how much hashrate 12x1050 and 6x1060. and compare how the average price difference is both. and the price of coins fluctuates when converted to Bitcoin.

It is not a good idea to mine with 1050 because you can only fit so many on one motherboard and then you have to buy all the components again. So it is not worth it if your are going to have multiple rigs.

What a terrible advice  :-\ Dude, if its profitable its not a bad idea, and besides if you go with multiple rigs you have to invest and buy another set of rigs.

you're not a fan of 1050 aren't you

Why go for those shit cards? They draw low power and have low hashrate output, and if electricity is free for you, you should buy heavy cards with high power and high output. Go for 1080TI or 1070TI, anything less then that is waste of money in my eyes.

those cards have doubled in price when bitcoin (and other crypto) increased and have yet to decrease to mirror the current prices of crypto. buying them right now is wasting money.

Previous generation cards draw more power, and they could still be available second hand. They are cheaper than current generation, obviously.
