My guess is that Mt. Gox is in the process of going out of business. They are trying to get as many people to send them money while putting a freeze on any money going out.

A month ago I requested a withdrawl...  over the course of that month, about once a week I would request the status of my withdraw and they kept feeding me the same line of B.S. that they were doing withdraws manually, and it would take some time.  Then, about a week ago, they have stopped answering customer service requests all together.

My suggestion at this point is that anyone who is considering to use Mt. Gox should seriously think twice, and if they do, be prepared to wait months to get anything out of them, if at all.

TOKYO - JAPAN - August 5th, 2013 There are many things happening right now at Mt. Gox, so we want to give everyone a quick status update on certain issues that are important to our customers worldwide and to the Bitcoin community. Based on the the questions and feedback we have received, we are addressing three issues in this update -- site speed and security, upcoming currency integrations, and the administrative issues with depositing and withdrawing currency. We're making progress on all fronts, though of course not as fast as we want.       ...

Hi J.Socal...

Thanks for the news post.  I saw that as well.  Hopefully, that's all it is, and things will soon be fine with them.  For the first few weeks after I made my withdraw request, I was also hoping that was the case.  But now that I'm past the 1 month mark, quickly approaching the 6 week mark, I'm forced to wonder just how much 'benefit of the doubt' do you give someone?  Even if they had to switch everything over to manual... with the large transaction fees both trading from currency to BTC, and BTC to currency, and the fees they have on making a withdraw, I would think that a month is more than enough time to hire on additional staff to do the manual withdraw data entry.   Plus with them no longer answering customer service requests in regards to withdraws at all, I think most would admit that is looking a bit suspicious.

With that being said, I also have to admit that I am rather new to the whole BitCoin market and exchange thing.  Perhaps it is normal for people to expect to wait several months before they get their money when making withdraw requests.

My spidey sense was tingling...
so I checked USD vs. JPY.
My suspicions were confirmed...

1$US gets more than 100¥JPN, for the 1st time since 2009

So basically, Japan's getting bitch-slapped, and Mt. Gox is draining the swamp, so to speak.

Support, Sep 10 17:19 (JST):

Hello,

Thank you for contacting us regarding your withdrawal request.

Due to a change in our banking system we are currently experiencing a back-log of withdrawals that we need to process.

Our team is working hard to increase transaction speeds, but there is approximately a few-week back-log we need to overcome.

It will take a few weeks to get back to normal, and we thank you for your patience during this time.

Again, we apologize for the delay and we will contact you once your withdrawal has been processed.

Best regards,

Mt.Gox Team

I had $400,000 worth of BTC on gox. Got that out of there as quick as I could and damn if they didn't try everything in the book to keep it.
