Title: BitCoin Use #1105: Ridding the Community of Unwanted Members
Post by: Anonymous on July 16, 2011, 01:34:08 AM
What if somebody setup a bounty of Bitcoins towards the person who guesses the correct date when a forum member will disappear -- for whatever reason? Could this potentially work?

Yes. Potentially.

You mean an assassination market (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Assassination_market)?

Good market, not exactly a good way to make friends though.

it would have to be an assassination market, no?

Example:
you bet 50 BTC that im gone for good tommorrow.

Two weeks later and i've not posted since, and i've deleted my account, you SEEM to have won the bet, but unless im dead I can still return.

You can still return under breach of contract. ; ) You could could of been paid a portion of the bounty to stay out.

So whoever got more money decides who is unwanted? Hm...why does that sound so familiar?

If you can identify breaches, e.g. people can't assume new identities and enter by stealth, then this could work as a stream of payments.
e.g. as long as you put 0.05 BTC per week in my account I will not enter the forum.

Of course, there is nothing to stop people from creating new identities. So it would only work for removing troublesome "trusted" bitcoin veterans who value their forum identities. Atlas, what is your weekly rate?  ;)

Angelus Design has some good points about the feasability of mining right now, although I haven't seen a lot of his posts.  I don't think that he deserves to be offed for expressing them.

Indeed, it is terrible to murder human beings for simply being douchebags on forum. The people who did these kind of things are even worse than douchebags.

You don't need to kill someone, you just need to convince them not to post on the the forums.

As I said before, idiots like Schumer need to be silenced about shutting down Bitcoin.

Maybe instead of assasination markets, we could have a prediction market on the day that Schumer pledges to never touch Bitcoin.  What means are used to convince him to do so, is left to the persuaders that get the bitcoins.  :o

Seems like this is pretty similar to just having a use-fee for being a forum member...  That could also work to disincentivize people from creating multiple accounts.

Banned member bounty: 20btc

The banned member would get a perpetual loan of 20btc from a 3rd party and the forum would pay the bills to the loaning institution (say 1btc/year @ 5%). When/if the member comes back, the bills stop being paid, but the banned member still has to pay the 20btc back, enforced by 3rd party. This way, the banned member can spend his 20btc right away. As long as he doesn't come back, he's fine.

This is how you bribe people - you can't just give someone $100,000 and promise they don't leak the photos of you and your wife's sister. Everyone has to have a vested interest.

I read an interesting post on reddit the other day, it contained a bit of insight & probably some character assassination.
http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/inr6n/anybody_know_what_happened_to_the_mods_blitzboom/

However, it has not been deleted, and whether or not he saw it, which I'm sure he did.
Does tell us something about his person, constitution and intellect.
I would only expect from him his trust is relative to his price, like many of us.

I also thought it was interesting to see that he had started this thread.
The weird one was the weapons thread, I expected something completely different from it.
I would have posted in it, had I remembered my login details.
