There were a lot of really disappointing answers, but only one that starts out sounding so promising, only to then crash and burn.

It's the obvious answer. There will be a lot more openings for singularities in knowledge if education is completely decentralized. Society will truly be able to choose the optimal form of education and the correct body of knowledge as opposed to appealing to a central authority while having two wolves feed on a sheep.

Guess that's what private/home schools are for though, right? If only the people whose children went to private/home school didn't have to subsidize public schoolers with their tax dollars... P.S.
