Title: Give me a week of moderator status in the Bitcoin subforum
Post by: Wind_FURY on February 12, 2018, 05:25:33 AM
Look at it, https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=1.0

The subforum has become full of low quality topics that spammers love to bump and post in. I can also see that some good quality posters participate in those spam filled threads because I believe they have no choice. "If you cannot beat them, join them".

Give me a week of mod status. I will clean it up.

- What  is your post reporting accuracy ?
 - How many posts have you reported till date ?
 - How many forum cleanup related threads such as Finding Alt's,reporting spamming accounts etc have you participated in ?

Becoming a moderator is not the only way you can help the forum. If you find a post spammy, report it.People often choose easy way of doing it as if 'giving them negative' is going to help them stop.Start doing stuff that matters.

I have 83% accuracy with 115 posts reported. I started doing massive reporting only 3 days ago. I know I am asking too much. But I am so frustrated that the good topics are drowned by the flooding of spam topics.

I made this topic yesterday, https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2924914.0

I was so excited that I would get positive responses the next day, but there were no replies. Hahaha.

I thought it would help the newbies.

#Frustrated.

Report more. You have made some contributions however it is pretty dwarfed by a lot of other people's contributions (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2915251.0) which would be more deserving of a moderator spot.

rickbig41 did become a moderator, but on that list, he's got >10x your report totals within those 4 months.

Joel_Jantsen is right, you don't need to be a mod to clean up the forum
you can do your share by reporting spam, copy paster and other things to contribute
keep doing what you're doing now, who knows maybe theymos will pick you when there's an opening for mod position :D

Rickbig is a perfect example of a user being promoted to meet the obvious demand. Rickbig didn't have anywhere near the amount of top reporters but every morning when I woke up there would be dozens of reports by him on spambots and sometimes they'd been there for hours and no staff were awake to simply nuke them. Thus it made sense to make him a mod as one in that time zone was obviously needed. I used to nuke easily ten to twenty bots in the morning alone and since he has been made a mod I've hardly nuked any at all. If you want to be a mod then show that you are required or would be beneficial and keep reporting as that's pretty much the only way you'll be considered and is by far the best barometer to show us that you would be a worthwhile addition to staff.

How much a lowlife mod would get every month? a.k.a me for instance. I just need more credit than 5 sMerits every 30 days, my life has no purpose. (holy jumping stuff is another story).

Merit stats are public, everybody could monitor my sent merits but theymos only gave me 5, he said that he would check on merit sources and their sent merits periodically, but that is just too much of work for one man, contribute by monitoring merit sources, ask theymos or a mod for their list, if you see a source has made a mistake, tell them about it.

I can also see that some good quality posters participate in those spam filled threads because I believe they have no choice. "If you cannot beat them, join them".

They have a choice a.k.a not posting.
(what was that? a man has got to eat right? that man would have low rank accounts and if you find low rank members with crappy post history, reporting their posts would help you to join the don theymos_leone's family).

Not only replies, you got no merit for it even.  ???  I hope you become DT Member one day but do not follow "The Pharmicst" and "Actmyname" who gave wrong Feedback and Red trust for their own benefits and now are removed from DT status.  ;D

I think that there are many topics and posts that should be deleted but don't even if they get reported because they aren't breaking forum rules.
This requires an example:

We have 2 exactly the same threads: "Why Bitcoin is better than cash?" Both are active and on the first page of Bitcoin Discussion.
First one was made on September 03, 2017 https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2147058.0
Second one, January 18, 2018 https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2774305.0
If i had something to say about it, I'd lock the second thread and give a temp ban to the OP for duplicating an existing active thread.
