Title: Butterfly Labs -- Monarch (pre-order misinformation)
Post by: ||bit on September 13, 2013, 04:01:49 AM
I don't want to bash Butterfly Labs if I don't have to, and don't want to come off as petty. Forgive me if this is. But they probably should have noticed this $/GH comparison was wrong by now. (Found here: http://www.butterflylabs.com/monarch/)

Their claim may have been correct (or not) for a few days, but it has certainly been incorrect for a long time now. I hope no miners out there were mislead into buying the Monarch based on this internal advertisement. The only way this can be correct now is if BFL claims that "the competition" is some specific entity other than those listed below. Of course, that would be disingenuous.

BFL, if you are watching, please update your misleading product page.

Anyone pre-ordering could rightly ask to cancel their order if it was based in part on false information on the Butterfly Lab's website when they ordered:

I think you will find that they were referring to the KNCminer products as "The Competition", which Josh has actively commented on in several forum threads.

Sure. I would have guessed KNC as well. But that is quite old information, which is my point. My hope is potential customers of BFL understand that is incorrect information. The competition is much tighter than that now. But even some of those offers that are at a higher $/GH are as good or better, simply because they are delivering (or expecting to deliver) sooner... e.g. one KNC product is $12/GH but is expecting to be shipped in November. Will Monarch deliver in November? That would be a very big surprise.

I'm sure that one lone blogger or BFL spokesman will receive a Monarch in November, after which they'll advertise the product as "in stock" and "shipping"

There is no effing way BFL will have anything 28nm anywhere close to hashing by November 2013.  Well, maybe if they ordered from KnC, but surely nothing of their own design.

November 2014 maybe.

Where are the designs for this unit... the real "lie" here is that they have anything on a drawing board anywhere with gerbers or BOM. It really isn't the fact they are BSing people about the stats they are BSing about the unit itself. Who is the designer?

When they describe "the competition", they should use someone that's shipping in the same time frame that they are.  They announced shipping in December, so they should be comparing prices with someone shipping in December.

BFL Is over.

For $300 more you can get 575Gh of mining from KNC in November (if you order today)

Otherwise wait until February for your 600gh (if you are lucky)

575Gh of mining power in November is worth 300% more than 600gh in February.

Yep. I'm just stocking up on the popcorn for when the donkey show finally grinds to a halt. Are there any bets on when they will file for bankruptcy?

http://www.butterflylabs.com/monarch/

But it says right on their website "Tape out August 2013".

Since it's October now, they ought be getting the finished "bullet run" wafers back from the fab any day now.

Right?

I'm sure Josh would never lie to us.  He's way too nice of a guy.  And Sonny, well, he walks around with that baby in his arms that makes him both adorable and saintly 100% of the time.

Would this face lie to you?
