Title: MyEtherwallet is defunct now?
Post by: ThePunisher49X on February 12, 2018, 05:40:58 PM
Official MyEtherWallet Statement from kvhnuke (Kosala):

https://www.reddit.com/r/ethereum/comments/7wgnds/official_myetherwallet_statement/

Here's the short version if you don't want to click on the link: Basically the 2 people that created MEW, Kosala and Taylor split (apparently nasty) and there are now 2 versions of MEW - Original MEW with Kosala and the new Mycrypto with Taylor. Taylor also apparently stole the official Twitter account of MEW and changed it to Mycrypto. There is also a pending lawsuit between the 2 parties

Theres no need on splitting up and reading up on reddit comments I do completely agree with their feedbacks and opinions that I would still stick on MEW and stealing out Main twitter account doesn't really signify a fair game but rather a theft which would really make bad impression into that Mycrypto. I don't know if there would be someone who entrust into that new wallet which we all know that most people are already using MEW as their main wallet when it comes on storing erc20 tokens.

I would believe the same thing which it isnt right or do have a proper etiquette on changing names specially on their twitter account. If they do made such changes then forcing actions isnt really right at all but rather give a proper announcement without any changing any account which will be better and will not really give bad feed backs on the action that had been made.

No its not defunct because MEW is still working.

I think it was Kosala who created MEW because he is a programmer he just brought in Taylor to probably market it AFAIK. However, its a nasty split and even with a pending lawsuit as you have said.

I still think with the original MEW, the new Mycrypto doesn't have anything to offer significant that MEW doesn't have. We want it very simple, that's why MEW gain traction from this community.

But its good to follow this event though. Let's see how the pending lawsuit goes.

From what I know they're identical and so I don't see why anyone would move from MEW to mycrypto. Everyone is used to MEW and already has their wallets there.

It will be hard for that new one to get supporters if he creates a bad impression.
If he really did it then goodbye to him. Stealing a twitter account for the purpose of no more hardwork getting followers from the start is just so lazy of him.
I bet if there will be a new MEW twitter account then it will be blown again with followers.  ;D
I will stay with MEW.

Lawsuits between companies can go on in every sector. But the consumers should not be affected due to this. It seems like the new exchange already violated the basic trust factor by stealing the twitter account of MEW. It's better to avoid both if the business ethics is not followed.

MEW is the original version while MyCrypto is just a copy of it, so I guess most if its users wouldn't move to MyCrypto .

This is sad,  one of them must have an evil motive over ETH wallets.  Gettimg the Twitter account to snatch the competition is so bad.  Roger Ver did this to Bitcoin.

Im saddened by this MEW split up. why did they do this if they can upgrade the MEW itself by not creating a new domain. is there any misunderstanding happened on MEWs developers. Are they not in good terms?. if this is the case then i will stick to MEW.

The first time of I heard of Mycrypto and it being an idea of one the original founders of Myetherwallet, I knew they will be trouble brewing in the near future. It didn't take that long before the news of this lawsuit came out.

I think the founders had different vision for the future of the MEW project.

I hope our account will not be affected, I am not good in technical terms but majority of my tokens are stored in MEW.
Hopefully this split will end up beneficial to the users of their system and no money will be stolen from us.

You should have at least read the report on reddit to be informed!

The way I see it, I think Kosala got it wrong here:
Quote
However, as a core developer and programmer, business development/designing were, admittedly, not my strength. I needed someone to take the lead on that front if I wanted MEW to grow its user base. I brought my friend, Taylor M., on board knowing that she was up to the task.

Must be Kosala have been emotionally attached to Taylor M, to have seen nothing wrong in allowing her custody of all company documents documents until the company was split into two, besides Taylor is nonchalant about a round table resolution - something quite commonplace with romance gone sour! A warning for us all, don't mix business with friendship!

Good analysis, I don't know if this 'Kosala' is a man or a woman. Maybe there were more than friendship between Kosala and Taylor, but this is just useless gossip by the way. The only important thing is that our tokens will be safe and not in danger. Waiting for next updates. Sad story btw...

I do not think that the main site completely disappears.
This will cause such a wave of negativity!
If everyone begins to transfer their money to another purse, the ether network will collapse from the load.

Simply there will be two sites and everyone will choose an option for themselves.

If I did not visit this thread, I would have not known about the latest news of MEW.
I am very confident with the site actually as I use to store all my investing in MEW and so far all my account are safe until now.
So, if there news that it might compromise our tokens I would certainly transfer my deposits to a safer one.

For me it works and the fact that they split i think that it wont affect us because for whoever took MEW will have a interest to keep it working.
It is curious that they did not gave a official statement on the site. That would be only fair of them for all the users that trust them by using theyr site.
