I knew about this ages ago and I'm from the UK lol if you ever watched Jamie's American Road Trip there's a whole segment about these 'underground' dinner parties and it apparently kicked off because people were sick of big restaurants that didn't let people have a relaxed meal.

Seems like fun.  It says they only face a possible small fine if caught and shutdown.  So small risk associated with it, but probably worth it.

So what would be the difference between one of these and just having a get together where everyone chips in for the cost?

I never lost my faith in humanity.   But I've never had faith that all humans are decent people.   I just lost faith in the idea of government as a result of the latter.
