Title: My purchased Bitcoin won't come through - help!
Post by: dji on July 16, 2011, 04:33:31 PM
I purchased 1 bitcoin from someone on 13th June, and it was sent through to my address that evening.  I still haven't received it.  I have proof it was sent to my address from the sender, and on block explorer it has gone through:

Any ideas???? Please help

Check the "X blocks" number in the bottom right of your client, then go to Block Explorer (http://blockexplorer.com/q/getblockcount) and check if the number matches the one on the site. If it doesn't, you haven't downloaded the whole blockchain yet. Simply leave your client running until the number in the client matches the current number at Block Explorer, and then you should have your money.

if that doesn't work, try running the bitcoin client with the -rescan option, as listed in more than one post on the first page of the newbies section alone

Thanks - i've just tried the -rescan option to no avail.

Also, the block number on my client will not increase to the one on blockexplorer, and it has been running.

Any other ideas? Thanks

How long has it been running? If it has not increased at all in an hour, you may need to forward ports in your router. If you have a software firewall on your computer, that may be blocking the client's traffic as well.

It has been running for well over an hour! A firewall is not blocking it either.  What did you say about ports on a router?

Thanks

How many connections does bitcoin show?  If it shows none, the count won't go up, if it shows few, it won't go up very fast.  Just like anything else p2p (bitcoin is peer to peer, like Napster was, along withm any other better services that died due to their centralized nature).  It is most likely listening on 8333, so if you forward port 8333 (TCP and UDP) to your computer on your router, then other peers can connect to you instead of you only connecting to them, leading to more connections and hopefully the blocks you're missing.

Yeah, it was sitting at 8 connections, but now it is only 1! It will take a while indeed. I changed the port to 8333 as well.

I have 70875 blocks at mo and need to get to approx 136732.
