So I ordered a BFL Jalapeno on the 3/27/13 got fed up waiting so I purchased a USB Block Erupter to play with bfgminer. Now the price has dropped on the Erupter and it wont even pay for its self anytime soon. Where does a newbie go from here? Would like to setup a diy low power hobby hash farm with a Cubox-i or raspberry - but what asic should I invest in? So many people buying hardware when they can't realistically determine ROI (and generally when they get it, it will not pay for itself barring a new bubble). This BTC economy is fucked up. Ditto this. I highly advise against most/all pre-orders on general principle. ROI is a huge gamble. And many of these companies are just shady, too... First realize that before Google, there was a search engine called AltaVista that dominated the space. It makes sense that other digital currencies will emerge to compete with and eventually surpass bitcoin in terms of popularity. Look at bitcoin as a blue chip rather than a growth stock. Now start researching to find the alt coins with the best chance to compete with bitcoin. Then pick two or three and invest small amounts in each one.
