Title: Goodbye Bitcoin Hello Blockchain
Post by: bacon2all on February 14, 2018, 11:01:48 AM
I believe that we are witnessing the setting down of the bitcoin sun, and similar to the sun on the north pole, which does not really sets down in the summer, so that is the Bitcoin sun.

The bitcoin was a great locomotive to the crypto industry, but it's time for it to step aside and let the technology take the lead.

The blockchain is the underlying technology of bitcoin and is the reason for the vast mainstream interest in this part of tech.
The mainstream has a lot of biased feelings toward Bitcoin, and god knows, there are definitely good reasons for that. But, unless the mainstream will be able to feel comfortable with using the tech, there will be no mass adoption and this beautiful technology will go to waste in the hands of speculative traders and scammers.

My personal opinion, don't shout  ::)

you have to realise what BTC is, what it represents to people.
and it is many things to many people,
an investment for medium and long term,
a store of wealth similar to what Gold is/was,
a payment system which is not easily tracable,
a form of hope that one day it may lift people out of poverty.

do we really want mass adoption with a coin which has a limited
supply of 21,000,000, im not so sure. Mass adoption is very
suggestive, did we have that in early January before weak hands
left the market? Will mass adoption bring more regulation and
potentially stifle its use?

Blockchain technology can operate and grow along with BTC
as it is presently.

Muh blockchain! Muh decentralization! Bitcoin is old and broken!

You forget that bitcoin has:

1) The largest brand recognition
2) The largest merchant acceptance
3) The largest public/consumer acceptance
4) The largest regulatory acceptance
5) The world's highest hashrate, making it the most secure network there is (not vulnerable to a 51% attack)
6) Not controlled by a central body, no godlike deities who can dictate development procedures (ie. Vitalik Buterin)

Also, blockchain without currency is useless. And bitcoin is the best and most stable blockchain-based currency as of now.

I think you need to be aware of the fact that bitcoins and blockchains are inseparable.
If there were no bitcoin, there would be no blockchain, just as some officials in the United States had agreed on the idea that there would be no blockchain without bitcoin.

You are really missing the point. Blockchain is just the mechanism. What Bitcoin is about is giving people the freedom to make financial transactions without the need to trust a third party. Transactions without banks is the goal, meaning both the banks that hold your money and perform transactions and the central banks that create ever larger amounts of money out of thin air and devalue your wealth in the process.

Far from being the sunset of Bitcoin, it has hardly got started yet.

So in your opinion, what are the use cases of a blockchain without a cryptocurrency incentivizing securing the network? Under these circumstances, what benefits does a blockchain provide as opposed to a more traditional database solution?

Bitcoin is the first off shoot of blockchain technology with super connectivity around the blockchain. For bitcoin to go down, it means the world will forget about blockchain. Meanwhile, for that to happen, we have to get a competent replacement which can only come from these few new altcoins that are introducing new technologies.

There is nothing to bid bitcoin a goodbye, because bitcoin is all about a successful part of blockchain technology. Now it is getting wide spread with blockchain being implemented on different industrial needs. Already bitcoin is progressing good with blockchain.

as you said, this is just your "personal opinion" and i disagree with it.

"was"?!!! it is not even 10 years that bitcoin came out. bitcoin is THE new technology that is growing and advancing. i honestly don't know in what world the newest technology like bitcoin which is not yet introduced fully and not to everyone!

with that said nothing is stopping a better project to come and take the first place from bitcoin....
... but nothing has happened so far and will not happen in the foreseeable future.

true but don't forget that the "mainstream" which is interested in the tech not bitcoin is disliking the decentralized part of bitcoin that is why they try to separate the two!

Maybe Blockchain and bitcoin are a very different thing that blockchain can be very great with different things in the future but if your involve in blockchain you will definitely get involve with bitcoin, Because bitcoin is technically the main thing that runs in blockchain, So how can you take away the one that is running in the technology that you want to take out?

saying goodbye to bitcoin is a big mistake. because the bitcoin will return to the highest position. but if you trust bitcoin to be one big coin you can determine and see the bitcoin as a whole. so bitcoin will return big.

Bitcoin is the first cryptocurrency that was created.
I think you are true, most ICO nowadays use blockchain technology such as ERC20 on ethereum network.
The bitcoin user gonna shift their coin to investing in ICO.

You're right i think mass adoption does help. However, BTC survived for so long now without mass adoption. So why would it die? Is there something that changed that im not aware of?
Mass adoption is great, but to be honest, i dont think it's the current state of BTC is ready for it. I think slow adoption is best. Let the adoption grow as fast the the technological growth.
I completely agree with the "hello blochain" part though. I really think it would help lots of industries.

You should not make use of the word "God" when we are just talking about these innovations and things that are related to money since its not really related at all or just irrelevant. I cant deny the fact that blockchain technology is indeed a great innovation when it comes on fastening things up like data transfer and other related usage or processes but saying goodbye bitcoin nowadays is just too early IMO.

You are missing the point here. Mainstream people doesn't need to be aware of the underlying technologies just like blockchain. Its like using Internet, you don't need to know or understand the technology behind, all you need to be aware of it plug your network cable to a modem and then you are all set. Same as with the mobile phone industry, you just dial the number or send SMS (short text message), you don't need much details behind to appropriate it.

And besides, blockchain has a lot of used not only bitcoin and other crypto's, but other sectors are well. Are you aware that banking system is the first recipient of this beautiful technology? The same banking system that keeps on attacking crypto.

You cannot separate bitcoin and block chain because they are like as one.
I do understand where are you coming from, but i do disagree with you.
For me btc is the best stored value because bitcoin does not result in Inflation. It is different from other currencies. Inflation occurs when the total amount of cash in the system increases. It is heavily dependent on the country’s demand and supply but in the case of Bitcoins there is no possibility of Inflation since bitcoins are scarce and easily interchangeable.

Okay, here's the thing, we know that Bitcoin or any other cryptocurrencies are about giving people the financial freedom that they always wanted, free from the manipulating government and banks and so on. The decentralization that Satoshi envisioned upon creating Bitcoin, but you know that "Blockchain" you are saying that it is just a mechanism is the core medium where all transactions of most cryptocurrencies especially Bitcoin happens? So without it, how can we properly use Bitcoin for all our transactions?

Indeed Bitcoin is a revolution and it's already to late to think of stopping it. It's may hater may think the sun would ever get to set, but they only fool themselves, people already tested what financial independence means and no one can tell them any better that is why is why they say all the armies on earth cannot stop a force whose time has come! If not Bitcoin, surely an offspring of it, even more rugged and sophisticated, will arise to continue the race!

but on the other hand also many scientists who admited the greatness of the block chain system, how do you correlate the two facts that are not one current?

Bitcoin may just have be one of all the thousand digital currencies today, but take note that this is the Pioneer and the most widespread among the list.
There are still underlying developments on the way which always aims for better usability and solutions to scale, no other old digital currency made it this far without having their own unique developments.

Its true that blockchain technologies are being used as the best decentralized ledger around the world and the thing that sustain bitcoin is blockchain. However Bitcoin also become inseperatable factor from blockchain nowadays, not to mention because of its purpose but because Bitcoin is more like a brand before people started to recognize blockchain technology, the mass started to learn how bitcoin works first instead of blockchain technology and it become an insurance for bitcoin to last longer and have a better future in the community  ;D ;D

Bitcoin and blockchain are two different technologies, but i think one of the best innovation in the world today and i think it will continue to grow and will develop more in the future.
Blockchain is the technology used to make transactions faster without third party involved, wherein Bitcoin is the medium of exchage so blockchain technology can be used. These two work hand in hand to make every transactions or exchanges possible. So, these two are both important and are not just invented for personal interest, but to help the public to make every transactions fast, easy, and readily accessible.

Well for me fundamentally speaking I really believe on blockchain technology because if our world totally adopts/apply blockchain in all technology that are running right now it will be more efficient, reliable and faster. I'm still not really believe on bitcoin fundamentally because there are no active teams, no roadmaps, future projects and the creator of bitcoin that's why still I am not convinced but both of them will continue to rise and improve in the following years.

Muh blockchain! Muh decentralization! Bitcoin is old and broken!

You forget that bitcoin has:

1) The largest brand recognition
2) The largest merchant acceptance
3) The largest public/consumer acceptance
4) The largest regulatory acceptance
5) The world's highest hashrate, making it the most secure network there is (not vulnerable to a 51% attack)
6) Not controlled by a central body, no godlike deities who can dictate development procedures (ie. Vitalik Buterin)

Also, blockchain without currency is useless. And bitcoin is the best and most stable blockchain-based currency as of now.

Very nicely put. I'm quoting this to have a better chance of finding it lately. Can't think of better words to say to someone who's asking why Bitcoin is better than other cryptos, meaning good ones of course. Although I think that Bitcoin is still theoretically vulnerable to a 51% attack, the fact that it has the world's highest hashrate makes it  exceptional in that regard, exceptional in a good way of course.

Same old story, just a different newbie account.

The businesses wittering on about "blockchain not bitcoin" tend not to understand that you can't have a blockchain without a coin.

In other words they don't know what they are talking about, they're just making statements because they know the share price jumps every time some company talks about "blockchain", because of the keyword trading bots.

Bitcoin is just startung his jorney and nit yet see what is the main purpose of bitcoin in the world. I mean bitcoin has a mision to acomplish in the future he will surely become a mode of payments around the world.
I think you're really not on this boat, Bitcoin is now over 9 years old and can no longer be said to be a startup. Its has grown quite popular across the globe as a payment system and one or two countries have had to legalize its use in their, while a significant number are looking to regulate it and some have settled to have it banned in their jurisdiction.

Bitcoin will be with us for a long time, longer than you think. Blockchain is more and more adopted by the industry, that will implement it in many different ways.
Bitcoin will be used as an investment, because of the increasing price and as a currency once lightning network will be up and working. So, there's no sunset yet, but a sun that is still rising.

Bitcoin is going to be much faster with the new Lightning Network doing transactions. People are loading up on coins waiting for that.

In general, I think the two are moving in a parallel manner. When Bitcoin advances, the blockchain technology is also advancing. And when blockchain is appreciated by people or by companies, they also come to appreciate the beauty and advantages of Bitcoin. To a significant extent, Bitcoin is carrying the name of blockchain technology and when we talk of blockchain as a new radical innovation, we cannot totally put aside Bitcoin from the picture. Bitcoin was the one that introduced the blockchain technology to the world. There is no way Bitcoin will fade away from its side.

Bitcoin is a simbol that will never die. I strongly believe it's going to actually be here forever, either if it's going to get a full adoption or not.
Bitcoin represents the beginning of a new technology of a new era, and above all, of a new world.
