Title: Beware of coinexchange.io !
Post by: MrTeah on February 14, 2018, 05:01:09 PM
Alright everyone, actually I can't even believe that's happening... 1 month ago I decided to put some money (~350$) into cryptos. I know that there are many out there who'll think: peanuts. But for me as a student that's actually a lot of money (took me almost half a year to save that amount). Anyways, after doing some research I decided to go with coinexchange.io and get some ELIX on there. Signed up on Bitstamp, bought ~0.31ETH and made a deposit on coinexchange. Shortly after the deposit was made, etherscan marked it as succeeded. You can check my wallet's address on coinexchange: 0x0bd546a008060fea07905c2a0416931e57b9b474

And today my balance on coinexchange still says: ZERO. After ~2-3 weeks and countless attempts to contact their "support" they told me to have patience (had to fix something blablabla). Nothing happened and I contacted them again. Today I got a response which basically says: fuck you.

Internal transactions, despite the name, are not actual transactions. They are not included directly on the blockchain; they are value transfers initiated by executing a contract. This transfer type is generally used to process transactions in bulk. Often, this occurs with deposits to CoinExchange.io from other exchanges or crypto-service providers.
While it can be seen on the block explorer, they cannot be detected by our system. At this point, we will only recover deposits with a minimum of 0.5 ETH and there is a 10% fee attached.
Please let us know if you would like us to proceed.
To avoid this in future, please withdraw to a wallet and then send the amount to your deposit address.

Sincerely,

CoinExchange.io Support Team

There was no warning whatsoever that exchange to exchange transactions are not supported (after some research I found out that exchange -> exchange works perfectly fine with all the other exchanges)!?

I've seen countless complaints on twitter regarding that problem now. Etherscan proves that my ETH was transferred successfully (and they know it)!

I consider it gone but we can prevent others from getting scammed by those fu**ers!

This is the first time I've heard of such thing. I'm currently using that specific exchange and haven't had any problem with it, so far. Exchange to exchange transfer has been successful for me in the past days though the coins that I transferred are different with what you sent to them. Their reply is quite disturbing because if you read between the lines, you can easily say that your ETH is gone for good. Why would they impose such thing without any notice to the public?

Thanks for providing this information as this will serve a warning for those who'll transfer ETH to this exchange from another exchange. Hopefully, they'll change their minimum amount for retrieval (0.5 ETH).

Yep, unfortunately...
I checked coinexchange's twitter regularly and there are/were many people experiencing the same: deposit not showing up + support not reacting.

And the thing is they are probably doing it on purpose (could easily refund people & put up a warning like "ETH deposit from exchanges not supported").

Is eth the only problem? Or other coins are affected too?
Im thinking to pull out my coins starting today.

People commenting on twitter are having problems with many different coins but I don't know if/how many are encountering the same problem with other coins.

Actually I lost hope after 1 month of waiting and being ignored by their support. I was actually begging at the end ("keep your 10% fee but credit me the rest please") - although i didn't make any mistakes - told them that's really a huge amount for me and they are somehow ruining me. They just don't give a damn...

If anyone is doubting: just go to their twitter page and look through the comments on their tweets.

coinexchange takes 50 confrimation for deposits .
however after 50-100 confirmation it get reflected there .
must be something missing or either at that time their hot wallet may be having issue .

I agree with you. I had a problem and lost money at coinexchange in December 2017. I contacted support many times but was not supported. I have given up using this exchange. And this is definitely the fraudulent exchange that I know of

So I've been looking through coinexchange's tweets and there are hundreds of people who have been scammed by those criminals! If there are enough people who are willing to contribute a small amount (I would gladly pay ~20$), we could collect Ethereum (would be the best choice imo) in a wallet and with that money I'm sure we can find someone who's able to track the operator(s) of that scamexchange down and eventually file charges against them! You just don't fu** with people's money - I am very serious about that!
Please - that goes out to everyone affected - spread the word (twitter, facebook, reddit,...) and post your problem here!

I don't doubt the issue on board because almost all these exchange sites have in one way or the other done something similar. They are always into listing new coins and I don't know what the support team really do. As I said, devs do a lot work on integrating new coins to their site leaving some of these cases as minor ones. I believe they will sort things out so please have patient as there is nothing I can do about this issue. They need more staff to look into issues like these rather than employing people to do otherwise.

"we will only recover deposits with a minimum of 0.5 ETH and there is a 10% fee attached"
Which basically means: "your 0.31 is gone"
They asked me for my ticket number 3 times now and then all of a sudden was total silence (oh it's that one guy we scammed, case closed).

Sometimes we are getting emails you have just accessed your wallet and we are also login information from where we have the login but actual problem i never touched the coin-exchange, maybe those are fake emails we are getting from that coin-exchange.

I also used that exchange one time and I never had a problem at all. Maybe you just need to wait a little more longer for them to bring back your another .3 ETH. I guess they have a lot of job as of now, maybe, so they can't respond at your messages faster as you expected, and after all you are not the only one in coinexchange.io having troubles and contacting the team. So be more patient - just saying!  :)

I have been having the same problem since February 14th. It is higher than 0.5ETH and they answered the same. In the end they said they could recover but would have a cost of 10% :o. Despite feeling something suspicious I replied to accept. I already answered 15 days and so far without any forecast response .... has anyone gone through at least and recovered at least 90%? Thank you

check your computer security for the base reason first,
I have traded in coin-exchange so long, and there is no problem
but in some cases, the withdraw some coin is delayed.

I just use this exchange recently and so far I have no problems with it thankfully. Deposits and withdrawals are so far smooth. I have not transacted ETH with them though because I only transferred ERC-20 tokens and bitcoin but it is deposited and withdrawn smoothly. I am still bothered because if 0.5 ETH and 10% fee is what they are asking then basically your 0.31 ETH is gone. They should warn the users beforehand that it is the pay so that the users will be informed. This is the disadvantage of the centralized exchanges and every time I transacted with them, I am still worried that something might go wrong.

This is sad, even I didn0t had any problems yet and I use this exchange often.
Thank for the warning, we need to be careful these days.

Finally the deposit problem was solved. 24 days later. After opening a ticket for the quality of coinexchange.io. it was resolved in less than 48 hours. I hope that anyone who has had this problem has managed to solve. Thanks for everything.
